Hey Katie,

If you've created the database and a user, you should be able to access it through phpadmin. Log in with your username and password.

One question, what do you need the database for? You may have Fantastico or Quick Install in your cpanel. If you are trying to install a Wordpress blog or some other app, Fantastico/Quick install will create all necessary databases for you.

Katie,

To make use of a MySQL database, you also need to create a user for the database. Make sure you keep a note of the password used when creating a user. Then you add the user to the database. You will then be able to access the database with phpMyAdmin.

What do you need the database for?

I found this video which is a pretty good step by step process -

You will get to a bit where is asks you to select database privileges for user. This can vary depending on what you are using the database for. For a Wordpress install, tick the following - Select - Insert - Update - Delete - Create - Alter - Drop

Thank you, I have the admin username and password but it refuses to let me in. I get the phpmyadmin entry screen but cannot access it. 'Cannot log in to the MySQL server' is the message.

I need the database for an app I have just purchased. It has instructions but I need a mysql database for it.

Just to make sure I understand the steps you are taking.

1. You login to your cPanel

2. You click on phpMyAdmin

3. You are then getting the error message?

If above is what is happening, you will need to open a support ticket with your host.

There are no buttons to create the database, it's a complete faff.

The steps were:

1. File manager
2. Database manager
3. Install/upgrade admin tool
4. Agree user terms
5. Choose root for database - I chose MySql admin
6. Database is updated
7. Log in - which I do, but just get the 'Cannot log in to the MySQL server' message when I try my username and password.

I have sent in a ticket, the waiting time is 24 - 48 hours, so I was checking to see if anyone had any idea for a faster solution.

Good grief. I don't know what Yahoo are using, but it's not cPanel. I did a quick search and it seems Yahoo have quite a complicated way of doing things. Lots of unhappy users, so you are not alone. Although that doesn't help you much.

Many hosts offer cPanel which is really east to use. Support ticket response time should also not be more than an hour or two. Unless you're really committed to using Yahoo, I'd give some thought to maybe a new home?

when you install a mysql db you will create a username and pw. i havent used yahoos but other hosting providers do not make you manual install mql or phpadmin, you might want to consider changing. hopefully you wrote down the username and pw you made. not sure what your using the DB for but if your make a website thats interactive etc... you will need to know some PHP to connect your website to the DB. this is stuff that is easily accomplished by a tech newbie. i hope yahoo has some kind of customer service phone number or live chat... if you want to learn about HTML and PHP I'd suggest teamtreehouse.com (non affilitate) I dont sub anymore to them cause i cant afford the 25 a month but i liked the product.

I need the database for an app. I have full instructions on how to install the app once I can access the database.

I did use hostgator for a while, which has the normal c-panel. Yahoo's is totally different and can be difficult to use - as I have just found..

I would advise that you move to an actual "web host". Yahoo isn't a web host and it's merely a "me too" service. Not to mention out of date.

I have no idea what a 'me too' service is. It's been fine for the last 6 years so I am reluctant to move and have to pay again for two services. I did have Hostgator, which I didn't much like and my main email and paypal email are connected to the yahoo account.

I'll just hope that the support has a solution.

It basically means "hey, we offer this too" - they don't specialize in it, which is why you're having such a bad time trying to get things done.

You are correct Kingfish85. It is physically impossible to use this hosting.

I did manage to get into my MySQL but I have no idea how to use it and Yahoo do not provide assistance. The video's for the app installation from the seller are very clear, but my cpanel does not work like his so I cannot proceed.

I'm looking at your hosting now. My brain is frazzled and I have no idea which package is best. Coffee and meditation time.
