My Emails, Not Sure What I'm Doing Wrong!

Hi All,

I am new to the IM world (3 months) after completing a "guru's" program. I didn't know what a squeeze page was 3 months ago. Anyway, after working his program, I have yet to generate one dime and have no idea why or what to do next. There is no after support from the guru (lesson learned) Let me explain.

I have a nice squeeze page which takes someone to a sales page for another low-ticket item. They immediately get my first follow-up email with the free ebook. I have around 40 follow-up emails queued with what I believe is real, good content and a "real person" genuine approach.

Interwoven in the content are links to various affiliate products. Example would be a video on a sales page. I'm not directly "selling" them as it's a little more subtle. I don't want to be a sleezy marketer.

However, I have yet to generate one dime and I can't figure it out. Any advice would be appreciated!

Thanks,

If we're talking about the page linked in your sig...

    > Yes, it's attractive, but it makes the same kind of vague promise thousands of others just like it make. Nothing stands out.

    > There's no reason to trust you, other than the same "your privacy is safe" promise everyone makes.

    On to your whole process...

How are you leading people to your squeeze page? If you're counting on SEO, you have problems.

I did a quick search for ["sexy fit body" AND "free report"] and got 2900 matches. Removing the first set of quotes [sexy fit body AND "free report"] bumped the number to 110,000.

Before you start worrying about emails that I'm betting a live prospect has yet to see, work on the wide end of the funnel. Test traffic generation sources and methods that lead people to your opt-in page primed to want that report and what follows. A list of freebie hunters is a cash drain, not an asset.

So you need to find a group of people with whom you can build rapport and trust, THEN lead them to your opt-in page. If you want an example, look at how Jeff Walker sets up his product launches. He quite literally wrote the book on it, and by the time he's ready to sell, about all he needs is a buy button. You can glean enough info just from the free stuff to get a good start.

Difficult to know - it sounds like you are doing most of the right things..........but

Have you signed up with your own email address and checked everything is working the way it should?

Are you getting sign up but no buyers or are you getting no sign ups at all?

We need a bit more info before we can help. Otherwise we are just guessing.

    Hi,

    1) How many leads have you added into your system?

    2) Have you tested different campaigns against one another?

    3) Have you split tested your squeeze pages/sales page copy etc?

Is what you are offering giving people what they NEED?

Have yo tested your links etc to make sure everything works.

The system you're using sounds like you should be seeing some kind
of results but it all depends on many factors of course.

It isn't really fair to blame your coach until you are sure that they haven't given
you their support until you become successful with the system that they are
    teaching you.

Welcome to the beautiful world of IM

Its a process and part of the process is to work out whats not working, then adjust your setup until your campaign starts performing the way you want it to.

So first: Are you recieving any optins atm? Are people subscribing? If not, you need to try different taffic sources and/or work on different landing pages - try not to just rely on one. If you have to rely on one landing page, make suttle tweaks to things such as CTA's (calls to action's) or different font types/ different colors/pictures...you get the drift.

If you have subscribers and they are not buying any products, you need to understand why. Do they trust you enough to buy a product you recommend? Are you giving them what they want and living up to their expectations? A lot of different roads to go down here. You can do things like ask your list what it is they want or what their biggest challenges are (this can be a reason why they opted in in the first place btw) - then provide the answers.

It's not easy and don't expect to be getting it right in 3 months - not many people can say that they were successful with IM within that time frame.

The trick is to keep at it and keep testing until you find the right combination of traffic and offer.

So two areas of focus for you: Traffic & Conversions. You need to really understand the dynamics of the two in order to see results

So what is your source of traffic to grow you list? If you buy solo ads from a solo ad provider that builds his list from buying other solo ads...You wont make a penny

You need to buy solo from people that actually generate their own leads from product offerings, or PPC...

You pay more...when I see people selling solo ads for .30 or .35 per clicks...Well there is a reason the price is that low.... Freeloader list members...

    Good luck

    Change your attitude!

    1) If your a marketer then you ARE a sales person. So sell, directly! If you dont want to be a sales person then you dont want to be a marketer.

    2) Trying to do what your profession dictates (marketers sell stuff) does not make you sleezy. Lying to people makes you sleezy.

brutecky makes a very good point here.

It's a numbers game. Just like sales in any industry. Numbers. You'll get told no dozens or hundreds of times before you're told yes.
And of course you have to test. And be objective. What you may think is engaging content could be completely unattractive to your subscribers. Shake things up, test. Build your list, test. And keep at it.

  • Email list building is dead imo... much more effective to get people to "Follow" the fanpage on facebook and contact them through that instead! By doing this, it also encourages their friends to have a look as well and can possibly go viral!

If we're talking about your sig-line link, here's some pointers...

A page with only an email capture is practically unheard of. No supporting text or videos on why someone should take action to give up their email. The background image took way too long to load. It's also too large a file size at 1.85mb. Get it down to at least 150kb for any dial-up users and for faster download times overall.

On your bullet points you are listing features. Features don't sell, benefits do. Tell them what's in it for them if they get this ebook. Study features vs benefits and you'll see what I mean. It goes further on to list facts, but again, you have to let the viewer visualize the change that will happen in their life if they get the ebook and that is done by showing them the benefits.

Then I just discovered that it looks like a clickbank sales page. I copied a snippet, a sentence from that site, if we're talking the one in your sig, and went to Google, put it in "Quotes" and saw almost 200 identical websites that have that too. So you won't get any Google assistance because of the duplicate content. So now my advice will have to be changed. LOL!

      SIGNATURE FILE RULES

      (1) Maximum length of sig file is 5 lines which includes any blank lines used for spaces.

      (2) You are only permitted 1 color in your sig file, this can be any color so long as it's black (hyper links can be blue as they come up this way on the board)

      (3) Sig files may only be written in the normal standard font size.

      (4) You may bold or italicize but that's it.

      (5) No Affiliate Links Allowed - Promote Your Own Domain/s Only. It's either this or we have to cut out sig files altogether which we do not want to do.

      I'm done.

A lot of good advice here. I would just summarize by saying it's all about the customer. Learn to look at the system through their eyes, not your own.

Email marketing is not dead and building a 'list' via FB should be a secondary thing as FB can ban you or shut down your account and you're screwed - lost all those followers.

No one can take your list from you. You own it and even if your Autoresponder closes or bans you then you can move your subscribers to another. The list of emails is always yours.

Email marketing is my number one source of traffic and sales, helps me build a relationship and trust with my audience, helps me inform them of new content / products. It's essential.

There's not a single serious online business that doesn't have an email list.

People still open emails IF they trust you and want to receive emails from you.

The cold traffic to a squeeze page for a freebie method is bad at that because no one knows who you are when they enter their email and often use fake or secondary emails they never check anyway.

They enter the email just to get a freebie (which they often never get round to looking at) rather than because they want follow up emails.

Then when the follow up email comes they think "who the hell is this person emailing me ad trying to sell me products" and hit delete, spam or unsubscribe.

It's hard to build trust and relationship with someone who never sees or opens your emails - this has to be done BEFORE they opt in through a content rich site / blog / content funnel or through a paid product they are 100% going to use (people tend to use things they pay for they often don't when something is free so it doesn't always matter that your freebie is good quality).

So in short the method you are using is flawed and doesn't work much anymore.

    Here's what I do.

Every optin gets added to my Morning Perkup list. And every morning and evening, I send out updates, resources, etc as to what's happening in the marketing land.

I'll share stories of my family, stories of the Twitter Budgies, stories of my mooses, etc., provide resources like today's news of Gmail starting to use Pinterest-like displays, and then provide affiliate links/my products/etc.

I get unsubs but I also get folks who like what I share.

Been doing this now for almost 2 years. Happy with it.

Stuart above is absolutely right. Anyone who says email marketing is dead isn't doing it right. Email is still the #1 driver of sales and ROI.

But I also think it is perfectly fine to start a relationship with your subscriber with an opt-in as a first stop. If the "carrot" you offer to join the list is valuable, you can use that to get their email address and then build on that trust by offer great, helpful content as you go along.

I would recommend not putting the sales page immediately after the opt-in though. The next page should probably be your best or most popular blog post or piece of content. That's the start of building that trust.

On the other hand, you don't want to wait too long after that to make them an offer. Emails "degrade" very quickly these days. Open rates start to fall after just a few weeks so you don't want to wait much longer than the 3rd or 4th email to start slipping in a call to action to buy something from you.

I think it comes down to your funnel management. Where are you getting your leads from? Do you have a blog? Doing media buys? Sometimes we bury ourselves in the project so much that we forget that nobody else cares about it as much as us

1st thing you should do is figure out who your target customer is, what their mindset is, and then come up with an organic plan to get them to subscribe to your list. There are zillions of opt-in forms out there, it's your job to help them see a reason to opt-in to yours and buy.

Maybe you're being too subtle. Once you have established trust with your email subscribers and readers, by providing useful information and links to useful tools, you can then send pure promotional emails. Just be sure you link your sales copy in the email to direct benefits to your subscribers. Don't just endorse affiliate products that earn more money for you. Be sure there is a valid reason your subscriber would actually want to use the product.

You may not have enough data yet to test this out.
Are you interacting with your list and asking them what they need?

Did you try establishing a connection with the people in your list? Are you sending any personal and/or non-promotional emails in-between promotional emails? Would you buy whatever you are promoting if you were in your list and got your emails?
