Question for gurus about consolidating lists

If I have several niche sub-lists all in one industry, and each list has say 10-20 emails in the autoresponder... Is it wise to consolidate people into a generic list at the end of the email chain?

For example say my lists are for "playing football", "playing basketball", "playing baseball"

I would push the people to a campaign for "playing sports" after the initial autoresponder series is complete. It would no longer be targeted at one niche idea, but in general for the broader industry.

Is this a proper list building strategy?

I'm no guru, but it seems like a better idea would be to leave the people in separate lists as well as pushing them all to one "sports" list.

That way you can send out a sports blast as well as just sending out a blast for a specific category, if you find a product targeted toward that niche.

It just keeps your options open for the future.

Perhaps it's not a "proper" list-building strategy for most, but this concept is very close to what I do in my own marketing approach.

As buyers progress towards the end of a particular niche sales cycle, lists are consolidated into either a qualified primary email list or other more personal communication channels such as social media, telemarketing, seminars, direct mail, or personal (face-to-face) sales.

Niche lists serve as "feeders" for incrementally qualifying buyers into high end products and leading directly or indirectly to purchases of my flagship products and consulting services.

I love what you are doing right now, and my recommendation would keep doing it. People respond differently when sent offers, advice, etc. and having that segmentation can segue them into other things. I do that at the moment, and have many products I promote that get great response do to the segmentation I have on my list.

I keep my lists segmented by sub-niche in the broader IM category. Conversion rates are higher when I send a niche targetted offer to a niche targetted list obviously.

If there is something more general or I think crosses over to my other lists, easy enough to check the box for that list and mail them also. You're on the right path segmenting upfront, stay on it and allow it more time if needed to pay out for you.

          Thanks, Shane

I probably wouldn't swap them over to another more general niche, but maybe try to find out what sports they are interested in by doing questionnaires in return for free gift so you get to know your list better and their other interests.

I would then use retargeting and custom audiences on Facebook for example to try capture these onto the other lists in the most common interests you found from the results.

This way you are doing them a service by supplying them with relevant offers to their interests and also expanding their potential worth to you for very little more investment on your part.

Dont over think things like this keep it simple. The more you complicate things the more likely you will mess things up. Keep them as separate list...Most AR's will let you select more then one list if you want to email the whole group.

I hope I correctly understood your question. I make millions off of email every year. I just always keep it simple.

Segmented list is the way to go because you have more chance of conversion.

In the marketing world you always want targeted market not broad market.
