Selling sites on the Warrior forum

For those of you who have experience selling sites on the warrior forum.....

In comparison to flippa how safe would you say it is? I keep hearing many stories of scam artists not paying on flippa, then stealing peoples sites.

I kind of have the feeling that the warrior forum will be a safer place to sell, also we can check out buyers from their profiles and past posts.

Its a shame the warrior forum does not have some kind of auction facility, one that has a trust rating.

Anyhow I would be grateful if those of you with experience would be kind enough to leave some feedback....

Many thanks in advance...

I haven't sold many websites but I have come across scam artists on flippa, twice, and on ebay, once. Luckily I didn't lose out financially on any of these occasions; just wasted a lot of time.

In contrast, I have sold three websites to people on this forum, via the "complete websites for sale" section, and the sales went through smoothly and in a friendly fashion.

That's not to say that you won't come up against any shady characters on the forum. You still need to check people out and do what you can to protect yourself. One thing I do is to put all of the files relating to a website sale onto a CD and send it via some secure shipping method that requires a signature from the recipient.

I make this a part of the auction description and a condition of sale. By doing this at least you have some proof that the buyer received something from you. I think that this reassures genuine buyers that they are not going to be ripped off and it might persuade some of the scammers to go elsewhere!

Another option, particularly for expensive sites, is to use an escrow service to handle the payment side of the transaction. Sending a physical copy of the website files on a CD is an even better idea when using escrow.

wtatlas, Thanks for asking, as I was going to start doing this and had similar concerns. But in my case, I was going to make it a "skeleton" site and offer customization services as part of the WSO (Basically Website & branding in a Box). I was debating offering the files as a digital download or actually offer professional installation as part of the package. Now I'm thinking I'll go with the latter!

Since this is a public forum and most anyone can join you will experience the occasional seller that is dishonest and willing to stoop to low levels in order to make a buck. But most folks here are not of that persuasion.

The best you can do is to put measures in place that will protect both of you, the buyer and the seller. Make sure everything is spelled out and agreed to in advance. Make sure there is appropriate value for both parties. It's not difficult to protect your interests as a seller.

      The best to you,

      Steve

For website and domains, go with a source you can trust. Escrow Website
#1 Business rule, trust no one. If the person buying don't want to use an escrow, be sure he has something to hide.

It doesn't matter where you do the transaction. You can get scammed on Flippa or the WF. Use escrow to sell. It protects both the buyer and seller.

Escrow services are the best solution, seems from this dicussion.
Perhaps, it will become wise that you tell novices, which escrow services are the best to use.
    Thanks.

I listed a site here on Warriorofrum, a real established site making money, and the post garnered a lot of interest.

I ended up selling on Flippa but someone on the warriorforum offered $400 one day after the auction ended. He was a legit guy as well

Thanks for the replies everyone, I plan on asking below $400 so was not sure if escrow would be worth while.... at the same time though the thought of being ripped off makes my blood boil lol.... I will have to give this some more thought....
