Email marketing guru required!

I need some help from someone with experience of building an email list.

I've got a site up and running with OptimizePress 2.0, and I've created a signup page, but I *think* I now need some kind of integration with an email provider so that people can actually register for my group.

Ideally this would be free. I've tried MailChimp in the past but wasn't impressed.

What are the best (and cheapest) options out there for me?

Thanks in advance,

Mike

I run my own with arpReach and Amazon SES.

Although not the simplest of setups for someone new.

    arpReach:
arpReach - autoresponder and email marketing software

    Amazon SES:
AWS | Amazon Simple Email Service (SES) - Cloud Based Email Services

Long term cheap...and delivery has been awesome. Like $0.10 per 1k emails sent or something like that.

    Mike -

I'd recommend either Aweber.com or GetResponse.com. Both are very good.

If you're going to make this a real business, spend the money and get the lowest level account. It's the most important expense you'll have each month because all your profits will likely come from your list so don't skimp!

    Hi,

    NEVER GO THE FREE ROUTE.

Always invest in your email A.R. service.

It will pay YOU BACK 100 times your investment over time.

Yeah GetResponse or Aweber are the BIG 2 for me.

Don't make the mistake and go through a free solution! Invest some money on Aweber etc... it will pay on the long-term!

I will always recommend self hosted, using a third party for the email transport, but not the list management.

You will find a hell of a lot of people that do huge mailings with huge lists, that feel the same way.

I have had GR and Aweber, and I have nothing bad to say about them. Other then when I moved my list from one to the other, they made it a big pain in the ass.

Which is because they want to cover their butts, and I don't blame them. But since I know how my email lists are built, and I know they are legit, I prefer to control them, and not answer to anyone.

I won't recommend anything free... free means junk in most cases, when it comes to email list handling and delivery.

The cheapest solution(and something that actually works) would be to use phplist as your list manager, and use of a thirdparty SMTP relay like amazon SES or Sendgrid for sending the emails.
