Video Tutorials vs Text and Image Tutorials

  • It completely depends on your presentation method dear
However, i am a fan of video tutorials and also likes to see them by others. Because they caught your attention constantly while txts are a little bit behind in this case.
    And Always remember that:
Just because you can create a video tutorial, doesn’t mean you should. Consider it carefully. Decide whether your content is best delivered in video format or as something else. In all likelihood, it’s better as something else.
And if you absolutely must create a video tutorial, then find a subject that’s well-suited to it, rather than the other way around!
    Best of luck !

    • Hi Mike,

I think a lot depends on the product. Personally, for some things I prefer video, especially if it's a more tutorial kind of product. But other times I prefer to read, usually it's more informational and isn't something that I need to see demonstrated.

My suggestion would be: why not offer both? That way you give your customers an option.

All the best with your WSO!

  • HI,

You could look at getting your videos transcribed and then that will allow you
to be able to create PDF reports and text based materials out of those
    training videos too.

It adds EXTRA weight to your launch and extra value.
  • People dont watch video or read instruction. LOL

They want to just start using it....this is honest.. Try to make everything intuitive.

They complain to paypal or open endless support tickets before helping themselves.

    • Right on target!

I would use both text and video. Video may provide some basics and text describe it in details.

But actually it depends on a product and a targeted audience. If you target on a newbie than a more detailed video tutorial will be a solution. But I would still back it up with text. For non-English speakers it would be easier to translate text.

  • That's the funny thing I've found.

I personally much prefer just text and image tutorials, but in my experience video tutorials are far, far more popular in the market and I get asked for them all the time if I haven't made one.

So now I just make both for everything.

    • I would suggest doing both. There are a lot of people who have hearing problems and for them trying to follow spoken video tutorials can be difficult, even when the quality is top notch.

Many marketers don't give a thought to this problem, thinking mainly of how easy it is for them to rattle off a quick video rather than thinking of their customers and what might be the most useful for them. (I can see from your replies to previous posts that you are not in this category of "lazy marketer").

It's impossible to say but I wouldn't be surprised if many of the "video only" products lose a few sales by not having a written alternative and, similarly, I wonder how many refund requests come about because customers can't follow video support tutorials.
  • I've not read the replies, but when I do video tutorials, I always transcribe the video into a readable article that makes sense. So I have the video at the top of the article, and then the transcription underneath. It usually helps as people like to listen to what's being said whilst they read it.

This is just something I always do.
