I won't try to make money directly either. But if there are people stupid enough to buy affiliate products after nothing but a mention on twitter, or trust you enough, by all means, make money on them.

Well, I don't know if it Twitter or I have just optimize my search engine marketing better that I earn almost $200/day.

Personally, its just how you communicate with the community. They will sure give the business product that you promote a click if they trust you enough and that you have better online reputation with your fellow Tweeple.

Yesterday I read a great article all about twitter in Time magazine. It explained how twitter is a vehicle and a new form of communication and its how you use it that counts. I think to be able to make money from twitter isn't the issue but how you create a following and get them to trust you that counts. I see many adverts on twitter that just ask me to buy something from a sales page. I do send out messages myself but usually direct my followers to my blog first where I review or discuss the latest offering I have come across.

So I see it as a way to build up a loyal following of people who are interested in you and what you are up to rather than yet another get rich quick scheme...but I could be wrong!

Its simple, I have made money from Twitter but not sure how much. Its again just about friendly, good tweets followed by promotion of products. Interaction is key! This is how I do it andd it works. You need followers first and again this is simple to do. Find followers that may be interested in your niche or offering, follow them and most will follow you back.

    Then start tweeting!

If you got a blog hook twitter to it so every post becomes a tweet etc. as well! This works very well for me!

It's hard to say. I get traffic to my affiliate sites from twitter but I can't track how many sales are from the twitter page itself.

I think a couple of you hit the nail on the head. I have got quite a large following on twitter however I have to say I sat down and followed a shed load of like minded people first. Looking at it now not sure it looks too good that I am following more people than are following me. Makes me look a bit like an ambulance chaser.

Not my intention but I guess like a lot of people I wasn't too sure what the best purpose of the site is/was. I just try and actually put down what I am doing whether IM related or not.

I suppose a good "celeb" example of using twitter is actor Stephen Fry who's a really funny guy. He twitters left right and centre, making funny comments about life in general. He has over 500,000 followers. When he next has a new book out I guess he'll twitter about that and guess what several thousand who follow him on twitter and like his writing style will go and buy his book. That I suppose is how to make money, be funny, entertaining and 6ft 4" with a funny nose. I'm off to get a nose job and hand off a door frame!!! (and read a few joke books)

The answer is no... Twitter, MySpace, and Facebook were NOT designed to be money making tools for Internet marketers.

If you mean placing paid ads on those sites, then yes by all means advertise away... but those who place ad after ad in their Twitter stream.. or who have MySpace profiles stuffed with a million banners ads, send broadcast message every 2 hours with affilate links, and on and on, thats total misuse of what these sites were intended for....

In my opinion the most powerful way to use these sites is for networking. I'd rather meet some amazing people I can JV with now and in the futute than make "$300 a day with a new and amazing Twitter Profits system!"

Relationships lasts lifetime and can be lead to millions of dollars down the road... while just trying to make a quick buck by polluting social networking sites with ads is seriously short term thinking.

          Well,

There have been instances people making money from twitter, but need to be done correctly.

Aside from being a contact point like facebook, it can also assist tweeple to actually market their products to relevant followers.

The twiverse is big and with thousands of followers, one can still make money with twitter. Just my 2 cents.

          Thanks.

First, I'll begin by saying I agree with what you are saying here. Networking is a powerful way to use these sites, but if you're making money by JV'ing through relationships made on Twitter... well, then?

I'd venture to say you're a SMART Twitter user.

Although these sites were not *designed* to be money making tools, they are. For all kinds of businesses. Restaurants, spa's, agencies, etc. (this is off-topic a bit here but I'm addressing the fact that you say that these sites are not for making money).

They use them to obviously create a relationship (and to network), and in turn hope to sell more stuff by maintaining a good relationship.

Spamming non-stop junk affiliate offers on Twitter (and others) is most DEFINITELY not a way to maintain a relationship with followers (or e-friends), but I don't think that this was the point of this discussion.

My point is simply this: The OP realizes people make money on Twitter, and I don't think he came here looking for people to say, "You're not supposed to be making money on Twitter."

There is a "right" way to make money on all of these social networking sites.

        Respectfully,

Well, i don't know whether its my approach to twitter that has made me not to see any positive result from twitting.

To be sincere, I've not made dime from twitting.
