Why did you start your website?

I'm curious to hear your reasons for why you started your particular website(s). Other than the obvious answer of "to make money!" usually there are other deeper reasons.

For most people, its not an easy process when first starting out to learn all this online stuff, writing content, trying various marketing/promotion tactics, etc. You also risk public failure.

So... what's your reason for putting in all the effort to launch and promote your site(s)?

But why did you want to learn the ropes?

I was promised a bank loan for my dream car a few years ago. I was all set on it and told everyone about the car I was getting. However, the deal fell through at the last stage of the loan process and I was completely gutted.

I said to myself, "I'm going to get that dream car one way or another, without having to depend on a bank for a loan." So I started looking into IM.

That was a few years ago and although my priorities have changed, I am well on my way to having enough for that car I wanted so badly.

I wanted to understand the process of building a site, so I could do it myself and teach it to others. This would allow me to share information over the internet and make money in the process.

The corporation I had worked with for as an outside sales rep for 15 years was sold and the new company was making too many changes to my comp plan, product line, and so on.

I wanted to stay home and work for myself and it took me 4 years of doing Internet marketing part time to achieve that goal. 8 years later it was well worth it.

wow that's a great story! what motivated you during those 4 years of doing internet marketing part time to get to where you are now? if you didn't like your company you could have just found a better one to work for right. why did you want to stay home?

Why did you want that car so badly? Sounds like that's what pushed you towards IM

        Why does anyone want anything?

Simply because they like it and want it which was my case.

My roommate pushed me into it. I was working for a wed design company at the time she moved in with me, we were both single, plus size ladies and were trying to find decent clothing. This was back in 2001 when there wasn't all that many good online stores. She tripped on a clothing manufacturer that did wholesale and suggested I start an online store. http://www.Sensualelegance.com was the result and my other stores spun off from and developed after it.

Nope..just to make money no deeper reasons. My sites have always been affiliate sites designed to make money from the word go. maybe I'm just shallow

I use my blog to post valuable content on it and when people see me as a person of value it will entice them to work with me.

I even have an 'About me' page because I want people to know I am not hiding behind a pen so I use my blog to show people they will be dealing with a credible source and that by working with me they will have me holding their hand every step of the way throughout their online business journey!

    ...Amen

I started my first website/blog to test out SEO strategies that I learned at my full time job. It was focused on a major football team. After three months of writing articles I started getting requests for ads.

I also put up a page to help my readers buy football tickets. That page started selling tickets.

The site still lives but I don't put more than an hour per month in writing and website maintenance. Because of diminished interest income from that site did come to a halt.

I started out with blogging, too, only as a personal experience. Then I received only good feedback, and I thought..why not make some money out of it?

For years supposedly experienced marketers have been telling newbies not to target markets that have lots of competition, they teach their students to go for the low hanging fruit. I decided to go against the grain, all of the products and services that I offer are in highly competitive markets and I'm doing great.

So to answer your question, I look for highly competitive industries and build my products and services right in the middle of them. My 16 years online has proven to me that the more competitive an industry is, the more opportunity and profitability it offers.
