Some marketers sure waste their time, effort and money

I just received yet another HTML email which had no working links...

At a rough guess I'd say up to 50% of the html emails I receive contain links which don't work. By that I mean the email has the link text (e.g. "Click here to download...") but no HTML code for the link.

And it's not an autoresponder thing either - 2 emails, both from Aweber; one has working links and the other doesn't.

The point being...

If you use HTML for your autoresponder emails, check the links work - send yourself a test email to make sure.

If you don't check, and the links are dead, you're wasting all that time and effort you put into building the list, not to mention the waste of money paying for the autoresponder (it isn't going to make any money if nobody can click on any links!).

Almost everyone has committed this offense.

Making errors in emails you send is lazy. The links are a good point. It's not a newbie error either - you just gotta check those details.

Another error in emails is receiving an email with all the html tags in the email body. This may be cause by sending html emails and not adding a plain text alternative when setting up the autoresponder.

But it tells me you didn't proofread your email series. If you can't be bothered to read what you write, why should I?

I once replied to an email from a marketer which had no working HTML links and he gave me uphill for wasting his time - he went on at length about how he never sent emails which didn't have working links.

I quietly unsubscribed and put him in the "be careful of this idiot's advice" category.

        Hi Kay,

The same email that prompted me to write this post also had HTML tags in the "text body" - needless to say there were no working links in that either...

I agree with the thread title. This is true amongst black hat marketers as well
