How do I make a video fakeout dialog box with javascript in wordpress?

Hey guys, so I have a picture of a video screenshot on my wordpress website, and I want to make it so that when someone clicks on the video a dialogue box pops up and says something like "to play video please enter your e-mail..."

How do I do this? Is there a free plugin somewhere that does this?

    If you're not using wordpress already then maybe consider installing it into a subdomain on your current site and just send people there, then instead of creating it from scratch you could just start using a plugin that does this.

    Have the videos on sub.yoursite.com and use a plugin like this maybe:

    You don't need a plugin. It's simple javascript using the onClick event. Do a search on that, and you should find a bunch of free tutorials with working examples. If you don't want to get your hands dirty in the templates, put the image and related code in a text widget.

    I just set up the same thing on one of my wordpress sites recently. Solution I found was to use a plug-in called "Simple Modal Window". There are similar free plug-ins, but I could not find one that worked well, or at all.

    I have a video screenshot image, when the user clicks any part of the image, a pop up displays.

    It does more than pop on click, but it's how I am using it. Also, in setting up the pop up, it uses the wordpress editor, so it's easy to set up your dialog box and you can put pretty much anything you want, text, opt-in form, ect. Quite a few options as well. I really like it.

    Much easier than using JS for me
