[newbie question] what is the most traffic generating article directories in 2014?

Hi

I want to place links on article directory sites like reddit.com back to individual posts on my blog.

I have posted about 5 links on reddit, but are looking for other article directories to post to? You have some suggestions?

Maybe this is not named article directories, I googled it and found sites like ezinearticles.com. That is not what I want. I want people to click on a link and be taken to my site

Yeah man, don't worry about article directories, but focus on social media instead. You will enjoy your results much more.

Article directories are a thing of the past IMHO. If you have a blog and write useful and engaging content, you'd better try social bookmarking sites, as agmccall suggests. Take a look at StumbleUpon.com , Scoop.it, Inbound.org, etc. If your content is interesting, you'll get traffic. Also, try Q&A sites like Quora. Try Medium. Here you've got better chances to engage your audience.

I recommend these as a good base, but if you do not know how to do article marketing properly, you will minimize your results.

Something is better then nothing, if you are going to write articles to submit them to directories, but if you approach from the point, and ask yourself, have I done everything to maximize syndication possibility then you will now maximize the effectiveness of your CTR, traffic, syndication, before you start submitting, why don't you make sure you really understand how to maximize and master article marketing, so now every article you put out there, has more of a chance to get SYNDICATED and get picked up by someone that has a lot of traffic .>!

    1. Ezine Articles
    2. Go Articles
    3. Article Dashboard
    4. Article Base
    5. Idea Marketers

While article directories are no longer the hot item they used to be, posting an occasional excellent article can give you some extra visibility and create a portfolio of sorts, provided it's in a GOOD directory.

And I do appreciate the list of social bookmarking sites. I keep forgetting about them and think it's time I started using them. Especially paper.li and scoop.it and the other sites WebMeUp mentioned.

And why stop there? Turn your articles into PDFs, slides, and videos and submit them on sites like slideshare, pdf sites, and video sites.

If you "want people to click on a link and be taken to my site", it means you're looking for directory submission, not article submission.
Like you said, ezinearticles.com is for article submission, while directory submission platforms are huge lists of websites, divided by specific categories. You get to submit your website to be listed in there by introducing a few specific data - a title and a description, the url, some keywords, an email address and a few other elements if I recall well. Just like with any other link building strategies, the higher the pr where you're linking, the better for your reputation.
So just google for free directory submission websites and you should find what you're looking for
