My first proper go at IM . . .

Hi All,

Well, I've not started my Annual Leave from work, I now have nearly three weeks of relaxing at home. I've decided that in the three weeks that I have off I'm going to try and really get my first blog off of the ground and attempt to have a steady stream of visitors. I feel it maybe a tall order, but I'm going to give it a go!

The first site that I'm trying to market is Formula1Race.net . I've had some help from various members of this site and other IM forums, they've all been great and really helpful!

Tomorrow with the help of an existing IM'er I'll be setting up my first Squidoo lense, I shall report back here tomorrow . . . .

Wish me luck, I may just need it!

Oh, one thing I forgot to say -- might be better to aim to get relevant links rather than off-topic ones. Cheers!

    Hi,

Do you mind me asking how you're going to profit from marketing Formula1Race.net?
That website is an affiliate website themselves and don't offer any products/services as far as I could see?

    Rgds,

          No problem SpicyRobby

This is via the eBay affiliate program by using the phpBaypro plugin together with Wordpress.

          It's a nice combination,you can also use BAN's(buildanichestore).
Ban's is almost the same as phpBaypro, but for building normal websites,no wp sites.

I would also prefer to work with WP,better for your SEO

          Regards,
          Richard

            Hi All,

Thank you for all the kind words!
Yep, I'll be marketing through eBay, I've downloaded so many reports about different ways to make you thousands of dollars, but this way I find is what I'm comfortable with, it's easy to set up and I "Kind of" know what I'm doing!

Yep, the site was done by the PHP Pro Plug-In, it's so easy to use, took me minutes to set up!

The design link can be found at the bottom of each page!

            Simon.

Has anyone got any sugestions other than Backlink and Squidoo etc on how to improve the site further?

I've been playing around with the RSS features, and am tempted to add that to the main page as a feature?

                Anyone?!

I've got 3 weeks off now, I'm going to get cracking on the sites from tomorrow so would really appreciate some tips on how to get them ranked higher and how to have a flow of traffic constantly coming to the site.

Obviously I feel with a Formula 1 theme, I'd be better paying for google adwords on Race weekends?

                Regards,

                Simon.

One thing that I would throw out there is the design of the site. The design looks great! BUT, it's not really optimized for user experience. You see, at least on my screen, the header image alone takes up half of the screen, and then the navigation bar takes up another 1/3. So, I can only see 1 eBay link without having to scroll.

You might want to try to find a theme that gets your content a little higher up on the page so that more people will actually see it. When I first open the page, I'm very confused at what to do and what it's all about, so I would imagine that other would be as well.

I've found that your theme doesn't necessarily have to be completely tied to your niche to be effective. Sometimes, plainer themes actually do better than niche-specific themes when it comes to internet marketing. The theme should look nice, but most importantly it should do its job. Its job in this case is to get people to read the eBay auction links and clickthrough. I don't feel like all the fluff is really going to help that.

                  I hope that's helpful

                    I'll certanily have a look at what's available, On my computer I don't get that problem - although that's probably because it's on a 24" iMac ;-)

No problem. I'm glad it was helpful.

Just so you know, I'm working on a 15.4 inch laptop screen at 1024x768. I wouldn't use a design that didn't work well at least at those dimensions. More and more people are using bigger monitors, but as they do (especially with Mac people) they tend to use smaller window sizes so they can see more windows on the screen at once instead of having every window maximized (Mac people have been working like this for years). So even though you may be seeing things OK, my guess is that the majority of your users won't be.

Yep, I agree, the design is pretty professional. But somehow the site design seems to overshadow the ebay ads! Well, at least in my eyes anyway.

One thing i noticed when i went to video section and im guessing all pages is the google adsense ads dont blend into the site which i believe is important. They end up standing out and saying I am an ad .I think this may welll result in lower click rates

You know if I found your site by using the SE's, I would have taken the time to scroll through it and check it out. Gave me a "feel good" for when I would have clicked through to formula racing products.

As far as traffic goes, I'm assuming you have a passion for racing. Use your 3 weeks to write articles about it. Publish them to Article Directories. This way when you get back to work they will be working for you to drive traffic to your web site.

Hi, just dropped by and saw you hade a f1 page.

Do you think you are able to build up a list? Perhaps you could write about a f1manager game.
Visit Bigpoint.com for more information, they have great games and offer affiliates 0,1€ per signup, 25% per sale etc.

I played it when I was younger.

Another cool thing is that there are so many games, that people you refer will play other games as well

                      Just a tip from me.

Perhaps there are more sites like this, just do some research

                      Simon,

I would look at keeping your articles around 350 to 500 words. Be sure and include your keywords in the title. "3 Tips On Formula Racing" "Discover Formula Racing" "A Little Known Fact About (driver name)" or something else catchy.

Include your keyword at least 1% to 1.5% in your article. (Others feel it should be higher than that)

Write your sentences on a 8th grade reading level (not dumb but easy to read). Keep paragraphs from 3 to 5 sentences length. Be sure to use good grammar, spelling and punctuation.

Make sure the article flows well, just like a good mystery novel, that keeps you flipping the pages. Don't give to much information but enough to get them wanting more.

Don't forget to write a good call to action resource box. Take a little time to go on ezine articles and check out the resources boxes of the top 10 article writers. You will get a good idea of what will work. One in particular that I can think of off the top of my head is Tim Gorman (fellow warrior TimG).

Simon, don't try to BS your readers, make sure your content is truthful. Otherwise they will simply go read something else. Forget them clicking through to your site.

                      Best of luck my friend.

                      Ken

                                Hey Simon,

I just checked your Squidoo lens and it gets a "atta boy". One thing I would consider doing is to give a little more info on your expertise.

                                1. Change "ex" race engineer to read "former" or "retired".
                                2. Mention some teams you worked for.
                                3. Races some of your team won.
                                4. Drivers you may have teamed with. (special things that occurred during races)

In other words soup it up and make it race.

Really let your friends know you know your business.

Use your Amazon link to sell the Playstation Video games as well as the books.

Where you use the word "buy" in your links change to "recommend" or something similar.

Now you have Squidoo up and going move to another social book marking site such as twitter and so forth.

You need to start writing some articles on Formula 1 racing and putting on EZine articles and other directories. You did a good job on your review of the 2008 Rule changes post on Squidoo. This will give you back links to your your Site. And you can also link to Squidoo in the resource box.

                                Keep on Keeping on.

                                Ken

                            Hi mate

Regarding the Google ads, I would style them so that they are more inkeeping with the color scheme of the site. Also, take the border off.

By doing that, they will neatly integrate and look more like info to click on than blatant ads.

You can see how I did this on mine: Make Money Online. It's not perfect, but it seems to work.

                            Hope that's useful mate

    Hey there,

i had a quick look at your site.

Do you plan on adding any content to keep visitors coming back?

    Like content about F1 racing?

Im not sure if you have any but the pages i went through all i could see was merchandise for sale?

Actually now i see that you have an F1 News Page.

Why not make that F1 news page the Main page on yoru Blog, so its the first thing visitors see?

That will make them wana come back.

Also are you targeting any keywords to rank in gogole for?

How are you getting traffic to your site so far?

    Jani

      Hi Team fire,

Yes, I didn't think of that! I may implement that tomorrow morning.
I've submitted the site to Google, with keywords like "Formula 1" but obviously there are other sites that'll gain so many more views than mine!

How am I getting traffic? Truth is, I'm not! I'm finding at the moment the only traffic I'm actually getting is after I post the link on sites such as the Warrior forum and other IM sites!

      Simon.

Just a quick question: - If I change the video page to the front page, do you think that'll help google index the site quicker as the Video's are always changing?

I've just updated the Squidoo lens, going to attempt the other sites later on! Would I get away with just copying each lens, or would I have to write original content for each blog?

            Simon.

              Whats up Ezy Dollar,

First of I would say Videos Videos Videos....

              1. Create videos and submit them to every site like YouTube, Revver, Viddler and so on (use TubeMogul.com - Online Video Distribution and Analytics to help you with this! Videos rank high and very quick and quick tip is always put a complete link (http://www.yourdomain.com) as the 1st thing in the description so that is will be a clickable link!

              2. Next to write articles all you have to do is go to Ezine Article Submission - Submit Your Best Quality Original Articles For Massive Exposure, Ezine Publishers Get 25 Free Article Reprints and look for articles on your topic and then us that info to write your own! Don't reinvent the wheel here just as long as I believe its 30% of the content is unique you should be fine! So you can use the same articles just only keep 30% from the previous ones.

              3. Make up a Free Report or something by combining your articles so that you can build a list up and use as a bait offer to get people going to your site.

Maybe you could interview someone that your market knows and likes and then give away the recording a bait offer, use bits and pieces to submit as videos and then turn into a transcript to give away as a Free Report!

              Hope this helps....

                Hi elitemarketer,

Thank you very much for the long and informative response!

I think I understand where your coming from, however I'm kind of confused to how I can create a You Tube video on the subject of Formula 1 on eBay?

Again, how would I go about creating a report on Formula 1? I would of thought it would have been a pretty hard subject to implement?

                Simon.

It doesn't have to be about your "Formula 1 on Ebay" its just has to be aimed at the people in your market! And let me explain a little better what I meant about videos...

If you submit videos using Tube Mogul then because of the high Pagerank and Search Engine ranking those sites like YouTube, Google Video, AOL, etc you can get "instant" very good rankings in the Search Engines.

It could be a video showing Formula 1 Race Cars fly by but the "key" here is whatever keywords you use in the Title & Description "is the keywords the Search Engines" will rank you for and Videos always (well not always but if you pick the right keywords then you should easily get Top 10 results)

First, go to Wordtracker's Free Tool and search your main keyword to find more keyword phrases and how many time they are searched for...

Free Keyword Suggestion Tool From Wordtracker

Then after you find more keywords go to Google and look at how many results that keyword has and if there are currently any videos on Page 1 (Top 10) and if not then there is a good chance you could get there and get there in hours not days

And if your wondering how you could advertise your site if its a videos of nice looking Formula cars flying by or whatever.....

What you do is include the link like I said earlier in desription and then use a Video Editing Software to include a "watermark" (your domain showing through the whole video)

I know this can be confusing but this stuff works.

I don't know if I can offer you this on here but I am releasing some training for a launch I will be doing in a couple of weeks on tips like this and need some people to test it so if you need more help PM me. And if I shouldn't be offering then "My Bad" just figured its cool since I am not even using my sig or putting a link.

Also, with the video software (could use Windows Movie Maker (Free on Windows), my fav is Sony Vegas (get 30 free trial at Sony.com) you can take still pics and zoom in on them and in reality create moving videos out of still pics!!

                  Hope this helps
