Article marketing vs. Blogging

I have been online for a few years. I joined the warrior forum to learn more about article marketing and blogging. My question is if article marketing is what I'm most interested in should I just focus on that or should I start a blog. What are some pro's an con's
Thanx.

I routinely do both and don't see why you wouldn't want to as well.

Blogs can provide some or all of the content for articles. Articles become the lifelines back to your blog. Articles also let others meet you and experience what you have to offer in a venue away from your home (the blog).

There are certainly those who choose to do one or the other exclusively, but I think you're missing out on a real opportunity to promote your business and help others at the same time if you just focus all your efforts on doing just one.

      Good luck to you,

Yeah I agree with Steve. You're missing the bigger picture here, article marketing is just a tool to help your rankings and get traffic to your main site. I would use article marketing as a way to entice the reader to come visit my site if they want to keep reading the completed version of my article. The point of blogging and article marketing is to get the lead. Get the lead, get the lead, get the lead. You want to get them onto your email list, and create a rabid following behind your brand.

Steve really nailed it. Do both. Maybe its easier for you to start with a blog post. Great. Then use that as a basis for an article.
Want to see some real traffic? Syndicate that article. Submit it to slideshare with a link back to your blog. Turn it into a powerpoint, submit that to slideshare. Shoot a video off of that powerpoint, upload to YouTube. 1 basic post can become so many things.

Just make sure your content is gold.

By this time, anyplace that would accept an incomplete article with that kind of trick won't be worth the effort if you're looking for human readers. If you're still article dumping for backlinks, have at it. It won't do much to help, but it won't hurt you either.

Back when article directories were accepting anything anyone submitted, you could get away with crap like titling an article "5 Tips for _____", giving two tips and using the resource box to say 'for tips 3-5, click here'. Nowadays, any directory worth being in would reject that nonsense.

[Side note: I wonder how long this will be up until someone selling those crappy links or the means to get them shows up to tell me I'm wrong?]

These days, about the best "free" method is a combination of syndicating share-worthy content, putting share-worthy content on your own site or blog, and sharing that content with the promise of more on your site.

Once you get them to your own site, get them on a list and start communicating with them. Provide value and make it easy to share, and you're on your way.

If you're into article marketing, I suggest that you start a blog and post your articles there before posting them to article directories. You can place a link to your blog within the resource box at the bottom of the articles submitted to directories. Doing this will give you a better chance at succeeding.

Of course this is the bare minimum but it's a start. Do a little more research on the topic within the warrior forum and you will learn a few simple stragies to enhance your efforts.

        I wish you much success

If you create a successful blog you won't even need to do article marketing. I doubt many of us here found our favourite blogs through marketed-articles...

I wouldn't make them necessarily incomplete like the example you used since to me that's a sleazy thing to do to a prospect. It can leave a bad taste in people's mouths. Instead write the article in a way where they'll want to see or hear what else you got to say.

Bradley, blogging all the way. With a self hosted Wordpress blog you can own your real estate, customize your blog and brand you. Article marketing sites may rank higher in search engines from the get go but you're hardly branding yourself by submitting to these article bases. Why give up link juice? Use a branded, self-hosted blog to stand out from the crowd and make an immense impact online.

I stopped article marketing 2 years ago. Google nails most article bases as spammy, and even the ones which rank higher on the Big G are falling by the wayside. Brand yourself. Stand out from the crowd. Be a blogging dynamo Save your creative juices for your own digital real estate, and to brand you before you brand an article base.

    All the best!

  • I also prefer blogging over article marketing. Write great content on your blog and it will be shared. Write an awesome post and it could go viral. And great content can be recreated and packaged in many different ways (slides, videos, podcast, infographics, images, etc), which could get you MORE links in the long run.

I was never able to do too much with article marketing (probably cause I hated most of the sites and their sub-par content, submitted by people who were just after a 'quick link'). I do blog though and it's been a pretty sweet ride. You can do both, but I'd focus my efforts on my own site. No matter what happens with all the sites you're publishing at, your own never depends on anyone but yourself. And yes, with a well 'niched' content and good quality articles you can earn some bucks and also drive quality traffic and really good links

I agree with the fellow warriors that you should do both article marketing and blogging. I think even though articles are easier to set up and make money from, in the long run your blog is going to be one of your biggest asset if you know how to monetize it well. However, the issue with blogs is that it takes time to grow them.

Yes, i agreed as well to do both. But... not at the same time. i prefer to start up with article marketing then follow up with blogging. This may produce a good result...

Article marketing is only good as attracting visitors to your blog, so you might need both. However, a better strategy would be to get your articles published on niche blogs as a guest blogger, rather than publishing on mass spam article sites. In this way, your article will be in front of your potential customers, rather than crammed in with thousands of other unrelated articles.

Thanks, I would like to know when it comes to being published on a niche site how do you go about that. Do I just contact the blog owner and ask. how does that work.

Article marketing is pretty much dead, especially if you're doing it for SEO purposes. Go with a blog and write quality content that people actually want to read, then drive traffic from Facebook.

The good old days of spinning and producing junk articles for backlinks are long gone.

Article marketing has been dead for a while now. However, articles are still an excellent backlink source - just don't overdo it.

10,000 spam articles in crap article directories don't do anything anymore. 100 articles on 100 valuable article sites/blogs, on the other hand...

A blog can be monetized....ads....affiliate products ....your own products...and you can
still write great content....if your goal is to make money.

Do both. Write a long article for your blog, then submit a shorter version of it to EzineArticles.

You can write new articles by better explaining every aspect briefly mentioned in the first article.

Not a bad idea clever, but make sure each piece is 100% unique to avoid Google's wrath....and of course, never use spinning
