What's my competition doing right???

I can't seem to catch a break for my website, but competition is killing it?

Any suggestions?

    You're real light on the details with your post.

    There could a thousands of reason why your competition is 'killing' you..

    But without knowing what you're offering and then comparing that with what your competitors are offering, no one can really give you any advise.

      It's selling candles with jewelry prizes.
      They seem to get a lot of traffic from facebook, per alexa, on there site, etc.

    one way is not to compete, but cooperate. contact your "competitors" and buy a solo ad if they have an email list or advertising space on their site.

  • Could you give us the link to your competitor's website/FB page? It's hard to compare and see what they're doing right if we don't know specifically which competitor you are talking about.

    Hi,

    Not too big on the idea of competition here We live in abundance. Nobody can beat us to anybody, or steal our traffic, or take from some imagined, limited market. I'm big on the idea of becoming more creative instead of trying to compete for an imagined, set number of prospects.

    Contact people from within your niche. Promote them. Doing so will create an abundant feeling from within which will attract prospering ideas, people and circumstances to you. No worries! Promoting other people is simply the quickest, easiest way to promote yourself. An increasing number of people will be happy to return the kind act, then you'll work your way into new, ever expanding markets, all because you helped other people out.

    If you're talking about CandlePrize.com, I had a quick look at the site.

    You're going to have to figure out a way to differentiate yourself from everyone else. Sites selling candles are a dime a dozen.

    There's some great angles on how you can position yourself on your "about us" page. You need to put some of that stuff on your homepage. So the minute someone arrives, they know you're different.

    This past Valentine's Day I ordered flowers for my wife from: thebouqs.com. Take a look at their site. They do a great job of expressing why they're different through some excellent copywriting and a video.

    There's a ton of stuff they do that can be directly applied to your business/site.

    Make a compelling argument for why you're different.

    Then, you can go to a site such as: http://www.similarweb.com/ which will provide you with some insight on how your competition is getting their traffic and a bunch of other useful information.

        I was talking about how to position YOUR site candleprize.com against ANY competition....

        I'm sure you know how competitive the space is, just searching Google brings up some serious results: 2014-04-09_1606 - MarkHess's library

        To beat everyone, you desperately need a clear message and a redesigned site with compelling copy.

    1-get yourself a well designed Theme (Classic + mobile) around $100-$200.
    2-Hire somebody to do the SEO for You (Backlinks) around $100-$200
    3-get yourself a fan page and run FB Ads around your area.
    4-Get Popup Mailing Lists to catch emails..

    And you should be OK.

    There's no way I'd buy from you.

    You don't even have a logo. Just some text saying CandlePrize.com. Doesn't exactly build trust.

      Here's a very simple suggestion:

      Try adding some content. Your site doesn't have any to speak of.

      What's compelling about some images and buy buttons?

      There are tons of sites doing the same thing and there's nothing to separate your site from all the rest.

      Position yourself and your site as the "go to" place in your niche. Right now, I can't see any reason why someone would visit your site over others that are already established.

        I'm going to differ with Stuart. I don't mind the theme. It's clean and fast.

        Steve is right about your front page, though. There's nothing compelling, nothing to set you apart. And unless they dig deeper into the site, the candle and ring photos make no sense.

        Once you do get into the site, the content, pardon my French, sucks. It reads like a mediocre SEO writer trying to sound corporate. If you have the budget, hire a real copywriter. If not, poke around online and see if you can find an old copy of the J Crew catalog.

        Candles are not a necessity in the home, unless it's the cheap ones you leave in a drawer in case the power goes out. They're an impulse purchase. Scented decorator candles like yours fall into the "small indulgence" box. That's a good place to be, if you can reach the right people with the right message.

        Your best feature, based on my quick look around your site, is the "free prize inside" gimmick" (and I use that word here with affection). If I'm a candle buyer, that's fun. If I'm buying it as a gift for a candle person, it's a lot of fun. In your place, I'd go with that angle.

        What do you mean by "your competition is killing you"? I think I know, but I want you to tell us.

    You really need to know how to market your site whether it be social marketing, SEO marketing, video marketing, etc.

    What specifics have you done in these areas? Then maybe we can help you out once we know what you have tried.
