T-shirt design Plan

Please note - I am typing the following, assuming that you haven't already tried these things.

I would scrap the landing page and Adwords idea for the time being. If I am looking to buy clothing (t-shirts) online I very rarely (actually have never) bought them from a landing page.

To promote your t-shirts I would go to where people are already buying.

Sell them on Ebay and Amazon. Get yourself a following and some reviews here.

Set up a Facebook page with a catchy timeline cover. Invite your friends and anyone you know to like your page. Join a few of the Facebook buying and selling groups (search Facebook for "The Bargain Basement" "Cardiff Freeads" and "Buying and selling your stuff Cardiff"). When you have joined these groups you can try selling your t-shirts there.

Get some t-shirts printed up and head down Splott market and Bessemer market and set up a stall. If your designs are good they will sell themselves.

You can run competitions on your Facebook page to entice people to share and like your page - when you reach a certain amount of likers - give away a free t-shirt.

Once you have got a few sales doing the above and have built a following you can then think about approaching business' to sell your t-shirts for you. When they see how popular they already are there will be more of a chance they will want to stock them.

Those are just a few thoughts off the top of my head - hope it helps.

As a principle regarding driving traffic to new offers especially, I'd say this: One buyer and it's over. One affiliate business and you could have dozens, hundreds ... countless buyers forever.

And the click will have cost you the same.

That has to be a no-brainer, don't you think?

I have the landing page plan as an interest generator, not for actual sales. I don't want to be spending alot of money on stock if now one wants them and they end up gathering dust in my attic. lol

The actual sales will come through ebay/amazon or other site if there are enough people who want the shirt.

I tried ebay a couple of years back with a similar design, I either didn't do it properly or it didn't or ebay was the wrong platform for it.

I'll be giving shopify a go this time around. I have heard good things.

as for the affiliate way.

That is definitely something I hadn't thought of.

I just wouldn't know how to go about it.

I have a lot of experience selling t-shirts online.

Here's my three questions:

1. How do you design a t-shirt without knowing who the target market is?
2. Do you want to be a t-shirt botique, t-shirt designer or just sell a couple of t-shirts?
3. What makes you think anyone would want to but your t-shirts?

T-shirts is a very competetive market. But, obviously, there are tons of buyers and tons of money. You just have to dominate your little niche.

I'll tell you this though: it looks like youre heading straight down the wrong path.

You will struggle with your plan. If you can't think of who you would sell to and how to find targeted traffic, you could spend a lot of time and effort for no returns.

Successful sellers hit a hot topic with eager buyers. Those who try to sell a cool shirt but don't have a specifc hot market tend to do poorly and can't figure out why the shirt is not selling.

There is a difference between designing cool t-shirts and having a funky store and having a single shirt design you are driving traffic to.

If you are driving traffic to a single shirt sales page you want to make sure the design is targeted at a very specific group so you can target that group.

For example, the week after Duck Dynasty idiot Phil came out with his parochial views on life the universe and everything and got suspended, "I Support Phil" shirts sold like hotcakes. For about two weeks.

I would search the PPC/PPV forums and read up on the Teespring campaigns. See the difference from those posting success stories and those looking for help.

Target your niche specific to the design, everybody is using FB to do this now, but I just heard the cracked down on custom audiences and tee's??

If I were in your shoes I would open up my keyword planner and start planning the keywords and settle for the one that is most viable.

In a case where both have a good market then I would test run the two and see which one converts well.

A small piece of advice - get into fashion related Pinterest groups as a contributor and promote your shirts there. It can work wonders.

I have a niche for the shirt. Its a horror themed one.

I did a campaign on Fabrily and Teespring, but I did no advertising apart from posting on facebook groups and my status, so they didn't go well.

What I should do is try again and spend a fair bit on online markets through adwords and other ways.

I still think the landing page is the wrong way to go. People register interest for high value coaching courses, and information products - not t-shirts. People want to shop for t-shirts.

The t-shirt designs themselves look great. I reckon a splash of colour on the front of them will make a big difference to catch people's eye.

P.S. Try advertising them on the Facebook pages I mentioned in my first post. These pages are specifically for Cardiff, with loads of hungry buyers already in place. If you get any interest - print on demand.

I second "Wizardofwisdom". Also, did you try Facebook ads? I see hundreds of threads from successful marketers on this very forum saying they've had success selling t-shirts to FB traffic.
