Domain Server Hijacked.

I was just going to put up a website on www.falconsubmitter.com today and per chance thought to type in the url. This was quite a chance as why would anyone type in their domain url if there is nothing suppose to be there. I just did. Only to find there a nice website displaying a variety of links and ads by Ztomy.

How can they just direct my domain to their server without my permission? I searched on the net and these hijackings have been happening for one if the domain was ever at Yahoo which this one was some time ago and I transferred it out. Fortunately, I did not have a website up but, I understand many people do have websites and they are at risk of having their website hijacked.

How can Ztomy, Yahoo and Network Solution do this? What programming is it that they do to the domain which allows them to retake?

Now I am going to check all of my domains and make sure the server is not directing to ztomy et tal. I wonder if even though the server is not directing to them if they can still hijack the domain.

Sounds like your domain is simply parked. When your hosting provider parks your domain they will usually place ads on it while parked. Not sure if this is your case but it's the first thing that came to mind.

I asked my hosting provider if they had parked the domain and they said no. The domain is being forwarded to : NS1541.ZTOMY.COM Yet, I never parked nor forwarded my domain. The domain was once registered at Yahoo and I transferred it out some time ago. Yahoo is a reseller for Melbourne IT and I guess Network Solution must be also as they use Ztomy.

Of course, I started reading up on it on the net and the stories abound.

On further reflection, I think when I transferred the domain out of Yahoo I should have changed the server at the new registry. Interesting.

I did not realize that I should make sure when transferring a domain that the server is changed as well. Otherwise, it stays the same. That must have been what happened. Live and learn!

      Thanks.
