Trying to quit my job...Is this the right strategy?

Okay...So I am on a mission to eventually quit my job and work from home full-time...The last 2 months I have finally taken action and started building my list in the weight loss niche using YouTube, my blog, and PPC advertising.

The first month I followed a mentor and the past couple of weeks I have been driving traffic to my squeeze pages. I am providing my list with a ton of value and have already gotten emails from people saying they have lost weight and that my tips are really helping them...I am promoting click bank products in my follow-up sequence every week or so...I currently have a list of 170 people and have made 1 sale but that eventually got refunded (darn it!)...I have learned more in these past 2 months testing and tweaking everything than I have in the 2 years prior to building my list...

Anyways I was just wondering, am I on the right track to eventually making some decent income?

Should I keep driving traffic, testing my squeeze pages and products?

Is there anything else I can be doing?

Appreciate any advice,

Evan

If your subscribers praise your content, then I'd consider launching a damn good blog rather than scratching around for the odd conversion.

You can continue to drive traffic to a squeeze page, sure. But weight loss is one of those niches which lends itself to blogging. If those subscribers love the content you're putting out there, then it's probable that they would namecheck your blog around the web. Bona fide namechecking will inevitably lead to higher search engine positioning and increasing visitor numbers.

For me, that is a much surer long term strategy. A strong authority site with tens of thousands of visitors a month, and you'll be sitting on a full-time business. That's not to say you can't continue to try to make affiliate offers swing, but I'd want to make valuable content stretch beyond a small list.

  • I'd have to agree with the above statement. Use your list to find out common questions and problems they might have, and this can be your ammunition to write some great blog posts that inform your visitors.

By writing content and posting it on your blog a couple of times a week, you'll become an authority, people will TRUST YOU MORE and will want to buy products you promote.

Consumers are hungry for information, and will not buy unless they trust you.

You already provide tons of value to your subscribers (as you said) so you definitely need to start writing your blog. Both Black Prince and SmallBusinessMarketing gave you decent advice.

I'd like to add few more things - you should start thinking about producing your own product. This could be your next step after starting a blog. This way, you'll have full control of product and instant authority boost + you'll be able to make real income.

Main question was - is this the right strategy to quit your job? YES, but don't rush, it takes time to start making real money in this business so write down your goals, focus on helping others and don't give up.

    Good luck Evan

If your list is eating up your content, then you should be emailing more. Tell them what they need to buy.... most people need to be told what they want. outright promote a product. Don't be afraid to push the sale...

      Hope That Helps.

Great advice, every business needs to create their own ebook, whether it be to attract more subscribers by offering it for free, or to sell. The beauty about creating your own ebook is that if you start writing regular blog posts, you can use the most viewed or commented one's as the content for your ebook.

Kind of like a "Best Of" collection of posts. Don't GIVE UP though, if you do go down the road of creating your own blog, bear in mind it can takes about 6-12 months, sometimes longer, to really start bringing in some great results, depending on what niche you're targeting.

Evan, keep sharing that massive value to become valuable to your audience. List building it great, and I'd add a self-hosted wordpress blog to brand yourself. Think long-term; if you want to leave your job you'd be wise to brand you, along with your product, through owning your digital real estate. By blogging and building your list, you'll create a ton of value, which can net you quite the fortune, over the long haul....which of course means you do not have to go back to work

    All the best!

Before you even think about quitting your job make sure you are making enough to at least support yourself or your family.

    Evan,

You are doing a fantastic job and it was the path I took way back when I first got going in 2005... and it's still one of my most profitable income streams (building a list and email marketing).

My advice is to continue driving traffic and building that list.

And you need to be pitching more than just once a week or once every 2 weeks if you want to actually be making some money.

The weight loss niche is very crowded... and very competitive... and just by that... it's a market that you can make very very decent amounts of money in AKA it's a market with lots of potential.

      Hi,

Like yourself im trying to leave my current role but i would like to reiterate what the previous posters has said.

Firstly, well done with the results so far but i ask yourself this question. Have you really maximize it fullest potential? Could you do more? Could you look to expand your campaign?

Secondly, I don't know what job you are doing, but is there a chance you could work reduced hours so you therefore have a stable income because i don't want to burst your bubble but sometimes things can wrong and you wouldn't have a stable income to support yourself. This is something I'm going to do but it all about taking baby steps towards the main goal. However if you can 100% say with confidence that you can and you could put some money aside just in case things go wrong then kudos to you my friend.

      Hope this helps.

If your customers are happy and you see the reflection of that "happiness" in your CB account you are moving in the right direction. Keep adding members to your list and also also try to create a couple of other income streams - don't make the mistake of keeping all your eggs in the same basket.
