Somebody asked me to generate leads for them...

Hello,

Somebody asked me to generate leads for them. Their industry is something I haven't heard of but aware of it's existing. It's a brick and mortar business that has services.

How would I go about:
  1. Learning about their industry
  2. How much would it cost me to generate leafs for them
  3. Best way to come up with a price per lead for them

All your expertise would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

1.) I would say for this one, you can Google, look for professional organizations, buy a couple of books, or contact other professionals in the industry asking questions?

2.) I'm sure with this you mean leads. It really depends on which method you take- free advertising, paid advertising, and the competitiveness of their search terms etc.

3.) Good question. I'd like to know the answer to this also.

You obviously do not know how to generate leads for them

So, the question is, Why did they ask you??

You are a War Room member. If you look in there you will find a lot of local business lead landing pages.

Create some nice looking landing pages and some type of free report that has information those leads might be searching for. You did not mention the type of business, but let's say it was people looking to buy houses.

You might do some research on the basics of buying a first house of the basics of buying a rental property.

If it was insurance you might have a report about 10 ways to save money on auto insurance or home insurance.

With a nice looking landing page and a report you can offer. BTW it does not have to be a free report. You can take that and run some ads, go to forums where your customers might go to.

Hope that helps in some way.

Firstly, it's not a good idea to speak like that to fellow warriors. The only result will be you getting less help.

Secondly, it IS a valid question because there could be a specific reason why they asked you. e.g. you have a list of people that COULD be interested.

            You are right.
My apologies to agmccall. But I think it would have been a nicely formulated question as well without any underlying insultive tone to it.

To answer the question, I was asked to help because I am the brother in law who is reasonably good at most things internet related.

Do some research and find out how much they are worth. Check with CPA networks and see what they would charge to generate the same leads for you.

I checked the networks, and they don't run any lead gen for that industry... would I need to push them?

I think if you dig deep enough you will find someone selling the right leads to get an idea of value.

definitely you need to do research on the industry. it will cost expensive if the industry is not popular as you are taking longer time to get it.

I am looking to research via Google Adwords to see what kind of keywords are used, and approx how much on average do they cost per click. I put in the name of the website, and generated all sorts of keywords. Some of them show up under "Suggested Bid" somewhere in $10-$20 mark and some have a hyphen.

So, based on just that minute data (more information can be gathered later), I can safely say that I can charge $50 per lead. This is because the landing page converts at a high rate. Once it starts, I can start working based on available data and increase the price per lead?

    Thoughts gentlemen (and ladies)?

Don't do it for free and totally treat them like a customer. They need to understand that what you do is a professional service. They obviously know nothing about this or they wouldn't of come to a family member. Usually it is because they are cheap and don't want to spend any money.

If you do it for them for free they know they can walk on you anytime they want and they will. If you charge them and charge a high enough fee they will change their view of you and treat you with more respect.

People know I work on the internet so they come to me for anything computer related, operating system trouble, software install and computer repair. I told them I charge $200 an hour and started talking to them like a customer. They backed off and left me alone at that point. I learned that the freebe requests are the worst nightmare you can have when it comes to people being on top of you all the time asking for more and more and more and expecting very little.

There is a church here locally that wanted me to design a website for them I said sure no problem but when I started talking fees and who would be paying they clammed up and disappeared quickly after. It was a very small church. Most churches do have a budget for things of this nature and WILL pay but this one can barely keep the lights on and everyone there expects hand outs. Very badly run church as you can tell.

Charge for your work and take a percentage and hire someone else to do this for you and make sure to charge an on going maintenance fee. Make sure they understand that it is not a one and done thing but an on going service that MUST be continually done or all the traffic will stop.

Then ask your brother in law for referrals and for every paying customer he brings you, you will give him a deal on the fee you charge him.

Edit: I came from the stand point of driving traffic to their website because that is mostly what you have here on this forum.

It's not so much as individual customers/ leads you need to be getting them...but teaching/showing them how to get massive exposure to the masses to explode their business! What they need is ATTRACTION MARKETING EDUCATION! Start educating yourself on how to be a huge asset to them, showing them ways and tricks of the marketing trade they never thought about before that can help their business quickly grow by leaps and bounds!

Being that they are an actual physical location kind of/type business gives you a very unique and exciting vantage point! They need a way to STAND OUT from the crowd of similar services...and you need to be the one to do it!
    You need to...
1.) Make people AWARE of their existence
2.) Let potential customers know how their service can help and benefit them!
3.) They want to not just do business in the community--but be a part of it as well!

You need to be...and should be positioning yourself as their Expert Media & Publicity Guide who give them million dollar ideas to gain local/regional and national exposure--not just some dude who simply creates 'leads!' You should be showing them how to get local media publicity by getting involved with local causes, whether it's volunteering at the men's shelter, donating to the food pantry or helping out/serving food to the homeless in the homeless kitchen.

They should (the company) involve themselves with causes in the community which in turn, gets them media exposure for their business!

Sponsorship (think girls softball equipment or baseball uniforms for the Little League team...) is an excellent way to do this! Why do you think corporations spend millions of dollars donating to, having their employee's get involved with community causes like say, "Habitat For Humanity?" Because it makes the company look good, it gets their name and picture in the business paper, in the newspaper and on the local news...and people like doing business with civic minded businesses and sales people!

If they want real, solid, professional leads...then they will have to get involved with civic organizations, go to B.M.I meetings, sign up with the local and or U.S Chamber of Commerce, attend awards shows, get to know other business owners, etc., It's about building and gaining trust and those relationships send business each others way!

    As the saying goes..
"If you want something you've never
had...you've got to things you've never before done!"

"Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and BLAZE a trail." - Ralph Waldo Emerson

“Tell me and I forget, teach me and I may remember, involve me and I learn.” ― Benjamin Franklin

First of all you have to understand the industry you are working for and you can follow the simple steps to generate leads easily, like:

    A. Create a great offer

    B. Place the offer in front of the right person

    C. A reason to act now

    1) You learn about an industry by learning about it. That means reading, reading some more, taking courses, getting certification, etc etc.

The industries I'm in I take seriously. So I go out any pay for classes and actually get certified. Even though I don't need the certifications, I like to have them.

    2) This is completely relative to your experience and resources.

It takes me personally between 250-400 hours of work just to build out *1* lead gen funnel for 1 local site. I do hundreds of geo targeted YT videos, I rank them all with GSA + a dedi server. I get tons of citations, map listings, etc etc. I build out a huge authority site. I fill it out with 100-300 pages of unique content. Then it takes me about 30-40 hours just to write 1 spintax which I use for ranking all the videos. I do everything but PPC.

My job is to cast the widest net possible, rank for as many keywords as high as I can, and drive as much traffic as possible. But at the same time I try to do this without making the site too dependent on Google. It would honestly take me 3 days just to explain my whole process.

    3) Price per lead schemes suck. I personally don't price that way. I hired a broker a long time ago. Every call I get from every site goes directly to my broker. Then he delegates the leads and hands them out for FREE. I don't charge my clients a dime for the leads. And I own 100% of everything. The site and the entire funnel.

Then me and my broker track all the sales, and every sale we get we collect a 6-14% commission which we split (my broker does the negotiating). So if a job sells for say $40,000, we might get around $4,500, and we each make $2,250.

We only work in high profit industries, so all we need is a few sales every week and we make good money.

When I first started 3 years ago, I was working like 60 hours a week. A year later I was working like 30 hours a week. Now, we have so much real estate, its so passive, that I work maybe 10-15 hours a week.

But the point is, I had to BUST MY ASS to reach the level I'm at today. And lead generation is NOT easy if you're a newbie. I wasted very little time reading or posting on forums when I started. I took massive, focused action, and 90% of the time I didn't even know if I was doing the right thing. I would target hundreds of keywords that didn't even have any search data on them. But fortunately, due to the sheer amount of work I did, it become impossible to fail. Once you have hundreds of pages of content ranking on G, when everything is well diversified, you will own 1 very large, profitable lead gen funnel.

Just don't be deceived into thinking its easy. If you plan on making a full time income, you better be prepared to work more than full time. But the good news is down the road, when everything is set up you get to sit back, relax, and enjoy a passive, and highly profitable stream of income.
