Your Recommendation for a Good Grammar Checker.

Can you recommend me a good grammar checker or punctuation checker software?. I sucked on using punctuation marks. I really don't know how to punctuate properly.

I have a friend that proof reads my article, but he will be gone for a year or two.

I don't have enough much money to pay for proof readers all the time, when writing every single article I wrote. So the best for me is to used a Grammar checker or Punctuation checker.

    Well a good start is google docs or word. From there really your only option is paying someone. You can always hire university students majoring in english. They are fast, effective and will do it for cheap because they are relatively poor. Also it is what they love to do.

    I find using 2 or 3 grammar / spelling programs works best.

    1. 1. Word grammar checker
    2. 2. StyleWriter
    3. 3. White Smoke

    When finished, read your article out loud, very effective.

    I've used Ginger, as mentioned above, as well as Word, Google, etc., and I've always found that you need a native English speaker even after using software. Ginger was the best that I used, and it worked fairly quickly, but it still missed things. I always had to go back and re-read the finished product and I'd still find mistakes.

    My suggestion would be for you to dive into the Warriors For Hire section, or Elance or oDesk or some other job site, and find someone to do it for you.

    Any of the software mentioned above will help you to some degree, but I know of none to equal the human brain.

    For example, they would probably note that you ended your first sentence with two punctuation marks, where only the question mark should have been used.

    In your second sentence, a native English speaker would more likely say "suck at" than "sucked on"; moreover, since it is redundant with the third sentence, a careful writer would simply omit it. I don't think software would catch that sort of thing very well.

    There are more errors in your second and third paragraphs:

    • "proof reads" should be "proofreads"
    • "proof readers" should be "proofreaders"
    • "So the" should be "Therefore, the"
    • "to used" should be "to use"
    • there is no reason to capitalize "grammar" or "punctuation" in your last sentence

    It might be instructive to put your initial post through some of the recommended software and see what comes out.

    Different writers will have different opinions about matters of style, punctuation, idiom, tone of voice, etc.

    Depending on how important you deem the end result to be, and considering the audience for which you are writing, you need to decide if the cost of a human proofreader is justified.

    MS Word actually has a very good grammar checker. Someone did an experiment testing several checking programs on the market and Word came out on top.

    That said, no software is a substitute for human eyes. Try to get someone (who is not a friend or family member) read your stuff.

    Grammarly.com is a paid option that looks very good. I haven't tried it yet, but I trust the person's judgement that recommended it to me.

    I use After the Deadline, works well on WordPress, Firefox and Chrome. My only issue with it is it doesn't run on MS Words, so I have to run my word docs through OpenOffice whenever I want to check it on AtD.

    There are many online grammar checker sites available now. I have been using the gingersoftware for a long time. It can provide grammar, spelling & redundancy error.

      I've used Grammarly, and have found that MS Words grammar check is a little weak.
      Grammarly is my favorite.

      I always take an hour pause between drafts. I can't write and proof immediately.

      And I think there is a Grammarly plugin you can get for MS Word.
