That was absolutely hysterical. I think it was the included picture of the dinosaur that got me At the price it's reached, I hope the buyer actually pays up and it doesn't prove to be a wasted listing fee for the seller. Sometimes these listings that are getting a lot of hits because they're quirky attract bidders who have no intention of paying but just want their link placed where everyone is looking. It was a good laugh, though - thanks for posting

      Hi Diana

What you say is very true. There was another listing there only a few weeks ago where this couple wanted to sell up their land and hit the road in a house bus but their marketing of the property wasn't going well so they decided to list it on TradeMe and instead of listing the property they listed their trusty old Ferguson tractor and threw in the property for free, starting bidding at a dollar and no reserve.

It was won by someone who never fronted up with the money It got to around $230,000.00 (I think from memory) but again it was a good example of how to think outside the square and I am sure there will have been lots of people who will have taken inspiration from it.

I just think this current ad is soooooo funny I hope the bidder fronts up and pays. He/she might need to have a fully paid up life insurance policy though, or at least his wife/husband might need to take one out

      Cheers

Q: Is the picture included with the machine? BECAUSE IT'S AWESOME
A: Sure I can include the picture if you want, I can also draw pretty good sharks and the undertaker from WWF wrestling. they always end up looking the same which is frustrating because its hard to tell which one is which when I'm showing my friends. I usually write Shark under the shark one so I don't forget which is which
I love this person, hope the money comes in alright.

      Hi fellow Kiwi

Yes, I saw. Isn't he the best?

But I think he started to run out of steam or time because he wasn't saying as much in the comments in the art auction. He's going to be on Close Up so it will be great to put a face to his humour

It will be interesting to find out whether he gets picked up by some big company and becomes famous

It certainly seems like the item is spreading virally. What a shame you can't post URL's in your auctions at TradeMe because the link juice would be fantastic!

    I love this one"

Seller Comment: I've added a pic of the earmuffs and string. It's not really string, more of a twine or cord. Its quite strong I've used it for all sorts of things and it's never let me down. This is not the right string to use if you are considering my goldfish trick, it's too thick and really hard to tie their little tails. But it will be perfect for tying the earmuffs into the laundry, it should also be strong enough to supply a link to this world if you get sucked through the portal but I wont guaranty it 6:00 pm, Tue 9 Jun
I have had tears streaming down my face and now I've got a headache from trying to restrain my laughing because my partners asleep and I might wake him up!

I believe though, there is a lesson in this for us all, he really isn't selling a washing machine, he is selling an art auction to donate the money to charity

It's very clever marketing and that is why I am sharing this with everyone here in the marketing forum because apart from the fantastic humour you are learning some good tips about sales and marketing

Share it with as many people as you can.

I wish that I could have a link from it, sending traffic to my websites! It has had 142,358 page views and without counting the comments made there are still 281 comments he hasn't replied to

The art auction is currently at $182 for his 'stegosaurus' picture and it has had 4857 page views. This guy is brilliant and I am sure he is being head hunted now. I wish I could have him write copy for me

    Cheers

I really enjoyed that. It's nice to see humor that isn't gross or juvenile. I ran off to post it to reddit but it had already been posted 4 times, so I just added a comment. By the way reddit.com is several times better than digg imo.

      Hi Smokey_Joe

      He is brilliant isn't he

He was on our current affairs program 'CloseUp' tonight when the interviewer went to his house to see his washing machine in action. It was so loud, they were yelling to be heard....at one stage they even put on the earmuffs that he had held to the machine with his famous bits of string

He has given people so much laughter and then as well, he is donating the money from his drawings to the sick kiddies at Starship Children's Hospital. A truly remarkable young man

    Hey Viv,

I wish I had an opportunity to see that program, because, judging by what you are saying, the information presented in the copy was did not have as much as a touch of exaggeration about it (well, the dinosaurs are a tough part to believe, but then again, who knows?)

And I completely agree with you that this person is just singular - you can feel it in the kind of sense of humor he has. It's - I don't know - real. I think he's such a good marketer due to one hugely important thing - he doesn't give a dang about marketing. Or job offers, for that matter.

    Kindest regards

    ROFL!!!

I think my parents had a washing machine from the late 70's that did the exact same thing. It didn't just open portals to the netherworld, it sent socks there too. Too bad it was sent to the scrap heap!
