Question on PLR article usage

Hi all

I have a few questions about PLR articles.

I recently bought a pre-made website from one of the providers on this forum.
The site came with 50+ PLR articles which I believe I can send to my email subscribers, compile into an eBook, etc. But I'd be wary about publishing them online "as-is" since they may be duplicate content with some other site out there.

So what I want to find out is if the following are true:

1) Isn't PLR taken to mean "for personal use only"? I'm free to tweak the content, etc. But I cannot claim copyright and ownership.

2) In the same vein, does it mean PLR is only for personal use? i.e. I cannot use PLR articles I've bought and include include e.g. in a site that is used for commercial purposes. That mean I cannot add Adsense, sell affiliate products, etc. to those PLR pages?

3) What if I re-write the articles, would they then be considered usable for commercial purposes?

4) The template "pre-made" website I bought from one of the providers on WF - this provider gave me a complete working Wordpress site, plus some 50+ PLR articles. Can I use the articles "as-is" and slap on Adsense code? Or must I re-write them significantly THEN put on Adsense? The reason I ask is that slapping on Adsense is, in a way, using the the PLR article for "commercial purposes" - which goes against the terms of usage.

Thanks for your clarifications in advance.

Then you buy PLR content, you're buying licensed content. You're buying the right to use that content, edit the content, sell the content etc. And, your rights will be stated in the terms of the PLR license.

However, the PLR content provider still maintains copyright over the content. All you're doing, is buying certain rights to the content.

You can use PLR content for commercial purposes. However, certain commercial uses may be restricted or not allowed... but that would be stated in the PLR license.

Even if you used the PLR content as-is, you could still use it for commercial purposes. However, if you want to get the most out of PLR content, then it's a very good idea to rewrite the content/add value to the content.

I don't know if Adsense might have a problem with it, since the content is not unique and may already be posted on multiple sites (assuming you're using the PLR content as-is)... but as far as using PLR content goes, you can use it for commercial purposes, including using the content as web content (unless the terms of the license doesn't allow the PLR content to be used as web content... I've seen PLR licenses that do not allow the content to be used as web content).

The term PLR stands for Private Label Rights. With most PLR products you are able to re-write or modify them and put your own name to them. Usually about the only thing you aren't allowed to do is to sell them to others as PLR. The usage terms do vary from PLR supplier to PLR supplier so you need to check the rights that you are buying. If you're unsure, ask for clarification.

You're usually allowed to use PLR articles without changing them but this isn't advisable for the following reasons.

      1. There may be several other websites using the same article "as is". Your site will not have much value to a visitor who has read the exact same article on half dozen or more websites that he has visited before reaching yours.

      2. PLR articles often cover a topic in a very general way so that they are easy to customize and individualize. They are therefore unlikely to match the rest of your site's content in style, format or depth of coverage of the topic.

PLR is best considered as a starting point; a draft article that is waiting for you to rewrite in your own style and, preferably, add more content so that it is a valuable source of information for your readers. If used in this way, then PLR can be a great time saver and a boon when you are short of ideas on what to write about.

One major problem with PLR is that much of it is of poor quality making it so much more difficult to rewrite. I have bought PLR that was so bad that it was quicker for me just to take the basic idea and write an original article based on that.
