How fast do established forums grow?

I started a forum back in 2005...and it's doing well. It gets about 50,000 unique visitors per month and 500,000 page views per month. The problem is that it was doing this since 2011.

In Dec. of 2012 I added a branded Tapatalk app to the site. The app is used heavily...but it is very hard to make money off of app traffic. Since I added the app...regular traffic has leveled off.

Will the regular traffic start to grow again eventually? Do I need to figure out a better way to make money off of the app traffic? Should I ditch the app and make everyone use the mobile version?

What kind of growth does a typical forum see per year?

Like the War Room on here, you could offer some type of membership feature to your forum. I'm not sure what kind of membership you can offer a gymnastics forum but it's a way to make money and possible higher demand. You can also increase advertising substantially through PPC or banners on related sites.

I would say the trajectory of a web forum is based directly with its viral propensity, in conjunction with your marketing budget. (And also influenced by your ability to come into contact with rabid quantities of contributors).

One of the things which makes Forums popular is addition of content by existing members n a regular basis. Not sure how much your forum content is being affected after majority of users switched to Tapatalk.

Growth can depend on so many factors that there is no such thing as 'typical'.

I don't know what niche you are in, but think about big the niche is. Is it reasonable to expect more traffic or do you think you basically dominate that market and no expansion is possible.

Forum growth might have been affected by increased use of social media and/ or new forums entering your market niche.

So, you might have to consider whats happening to your niche as a whole, rather than just your site.

      Hope that helps
