New Member Indtroduction & Questions On My Plan

First off I would like to introduce myself to the group. I have been flirting with the idea of trying to make money online for about three years now after I got laid off by my previous employer and realized that at the end of the day I am the only person who is looking out for my best interest no matter how much money I make my place of employement but have never taken the initiative to follow thru with it. Well that actually isn't true about a year ago I started a niche site but gave up on it after about a month.

Fast forward to today and I am realizing how much I have given up family wise with my current career (same industry) and am ready to give it another go.

On to my current plan and questions for the group. I still have my niche site which is something I am passionate about and know that others like me are willing to spend a great deal of money on it as I have. My plan is to take the next couple of months and work on the site to give it great content without worrying much about traffic until it is where I want it to be. While doing this building up a fan page on Facebook on the topic at which time I feel the site is ready promoting the site to my Facebook fans to drive traffic to my site.

My intent with the fan page is to spend money promoting the page to gather followers and when I start promoting my webpage also promote pages within my page that are reviews of products that can be purchased via amazon thru amazon associate links and other income generating items in addition to amazon. My thought is that once I spend the initial cost involved with getting the Facebook likes that with thoughtful engaging post I will have a reusable source of potential customers that will not require additional funds on my part as long as I am able to keep them wanting to come back to my page.

My question I have for the group is; is it worth it to spend the money to promote a Facebook page for likes or should I spend my money elsewhere to drive traffic? I ask because I for one would not (rather to date have not) purchase something I saw on Facebook as I use it solely to stay in contact with friends and family and personally find the ads annoying. If not what would you suggest I do? Just working on SEO to drive traffic to my site or paying to drive traffic? If paying to drive traffic what service do you recommend? It should be known that I have the ability to spend whatever is needed to make this work but with that said I don't want to spend $100 for every $10 in revenue I am able to make resulting in a $90 loss for every $100 spent. I am out to make money not lose money.

    So, what is it you're selling? You say you have a page in a page that has Amazon links. Is this what you're whole website is based off of?

    I suggest to promote your blog as it goes. Don't wait untill you post all the contents. Test and tweak. Don't get overwhelmed.

    A big mistake people make is that they think that this business is about products. It's NOT, It's about the customer.

    Actually everything you must do online should be customer focused, not product focused.

    As onlinebizgiant suggested... You need to reverse-engineer this process and invest your time providing information and answers to questions... where your target market spends time. Are they spending their time on FBook? If so, great; if not don't use FB and go where they go.

    Niche research first, then feed you niche what it wants.

    Network with your future customers as well. Are you visible on the forums they frequent? Do you have a reputation for having all the answers? Do they know that if they're stuck with questions, they could come to you for unsticking?

    Build up your reputation and become a name in your industry. It's not difficult at all. Folks tend to buy from those they figure know what they're talking about.

      Unless your niche's audience is extremely rare, yes they ARE on Facebook. Almost everybody is on Facebook. And they're on Facebook for exorbitant amounts of time. So don't ignore Facebook.

      But forget about Facebook Page LIKES. They're fool's gold. Even if you get a gazillion Likes, the chances that any of your subsequent posts will be seen by your fans is slim to none. Facebook has severely reduced the amount of page posts that go into user's newsfeeds. To the point where many many page owners are tearing out their hair and cursing at facebook. They spent good time and energy cultivating fans, only to find their fans are no longer seeing their posts.

      But that doesn't mean to forget about Facebook. That would be folly.

        Find out what your target market wants first. Give them what they want, not what you think they might want. It's going to require a little bit of research on your part, but you'll find it will be well worth it.

        Don't abandon the idea of using Facebook. It's where the world hangs out. How you use it is a different matter.

        Also, don't worry about filling up an entire website with content before you do anything. As I learned a while back when I started, "Don't get it perfect, just get it going." You can always make changes as you go along. I'd rather give content in bits and pieces and know it's what my audience wants than pile up a load of content and find out that my market is less than receptive.
