Would This Turn You Off? (Is It EVEN Possible To Do This With A Pop-In Box?)

Is it possible to have a pop-in box (for collecting email opt-ins) that appears only when a visitor to your site decides to leave the site WITHOUT clicking on a hoplink but DOES NOT APPEAR if he or she clicks on a hoplink??

Or is it better to make all hoplinks open up the product sales page in a new window AND have a pop-in appear every time the visitor tries to leave your site?

Can anyone help, please? Thanks!!

Actually, the other related question is -- if you're a visitor and you click on a hoplink intending to see the sales page but when you do that, a pop-up box appears asking for your email, would this turn you off from the sales page and you end up not buying anything?

When someone clicks on an affiliate link...stand out of their way and let them go!

      They may actually buy something!

What could very well happen if they get that pop-up is they say, "What the hell?" and quickly dump your site altogether. This is what the ancients called 'Bad Mojo'.

If your reader wants to buy something from you let them.

Just my opinion but I would never opt in to your list simply to see your sales page. However, that is just me so if you want actual figures, the only real answer is to test and see what works for you in your niche.

Just my two cents for what it's worth

Good point! Despite the risk of turning them off, the opt-in will definitely give a better longer term return.

There is a script (it comes in a stand alone + WP plugin version) that can be configured to show the popup only when clicking a certain link and/or to not show it when clicking another link, e.g. to exclude the order link.

PM me - I don't want to post an aff link...

I'm a marketer. I love anything that increases the size of my list. As a user... If you asked me that question 6 years ago though, I'd have a different answer.

Oh no! That's not what I meant, sorry, my fault.

Most of my visitors get to my site direct from my articles. The site itself is a review page of 3 products. So what I'm thinking of doing is to install an exit pop-up. My question is can I configure the pop-up NOT to appear if they click on one of my affiliate links but APPEAR if they are exiting my webpage through any other means other than my affiliate links.

    Hope that's clearer!

Yes you can, you will need to use javascript and cookies to do this. You could write a value to the cookie when the user clicks a link, or you could have it written server side if you wish.

This is totally possible, but I am not sure if it would be worth the effort.
