Hi
I made almost 2 similar post. One in morning and removed. I thought I did not submit after Preview. I did again and removed again. How to ask moderator reason of it?

Don't ask the admins why your posts are deleted - it's against the rules. Try reading the rules and you will understand what you are doing wrong.

Mods do not give you a reason. Here's a guideline

    1. Do not drop links to your own sites
    2. Do not spam or self promote
    3. Do not copy/paste articles that already exist on the Net
    4. Do not drop affiliate or referral links
    5. Do not post a bunch of crap posts just to get your signature seen
    6. Do not refer to your signature in your post
    7. Do not place advertising in your post

Do not repost a post that has been deleted and do not start threads asking why your post has been deleted.

The rules for the WF are posted in a stickie. Read them.

I saw your posts that were removed. Most likely reason was violating #2 and #6 in Suzanne's list.

Vague teasers with "see my sig" will get nuked every time.

That rule has apparently fallen into a grey area as I've seen many remain depending on the discretion a mod, including this thread.

Not so much a gray area as a judgment call in not enforcing the rule in this specific instance because I wanted to make a point. Most of the time I delete them. And bear in mind you're only seeing the ones we leave behind, not the dozens that we have deleted.

However, Pknerd asked politely and he/she didn't begin with unwarranted accusations (which is sometimes the case with these types of posts).

This member has also been a member for almost a year and looking at their past posts (and history) I see nothing in there that would lead me to believe that this person was trying to be difficult.

Instead of sending them a PM, I decided to address the issue here for others to see.

PKnerd, I cannot comment on the posts that were removed because I did not see them. However, please note that while I cannot comment on why they were removed I can comment on why the moderators generally don't contact people as to why they removed the posts.

Firstly, there are several moderators here and I am just one of them; the community can also report posts to the moderators. The admins can also moderate.

We deal with dozens, sometimes hundreds of issues, per day and it just isn't logistically feasible to contact every person who violates the rules. Also note that sometimes a post is removed because it's a judgment call. Sometimes threads get closed because a person is bumping their own thread too much or because it's not a topic that is relevant to a discussion about money, which is what the Main Discussion Forum is about.

Another reason why we generally don't contact people it's because they generally want to agrue with the moderators. We just don't have the time to do that. Moderating is not a personal thing, but people sometimes want to make it so.

Moderators do not remove posts or threads for no reason, because if they did that, they wouldn't be a moderator for very long, the owners would make sure of that.

Posts get removed for all kinds of reasons, it could be because it was posted in the wrong forum, it was too self-promotional, it could be because it was a post on the same topic that was already mentioned 10 times that day; I just removed a post from someone who wanted feedback on their project, this is not the right forum for that.

I hope this helps you understand a little more. I've been here over ten years and I still read and review the rules at least once a month because I know they get updated from time to time.

No reason needed, if mods want they can delete any post. (wait and see this post will be deleted in ten minutes)

If it is, it would only be because it adds nothing worthwhile to the conversation.

Just because a reason isn't given, it doesn't follow that posts are deleted without cause.

Beleive me they are deleted. Yesterday there was a thread asking for suggestions for WF after, Freelancer buying it. I wrote they can train mods for a better service, and it only stays 3 minutes before it was deleted. Is it bad to ask for better in a IM forum?

There is always a reason, it's just we usually don't contact the person unless it's absolutely necessary (such as WSO seller / buyer issues).

This is a perfect example of what I'm talking about. It's not always that black and white. You have to be a member of the forum in good standing for many years before you are even considered to be a moderator, so the moderators understand the rules. If they step out of line, trust me, there are other senior moderators and admins who will keep them in line.

I cannot comment specifically on what that particular post or thread was deleted, but if you were alluding that the moderators need better training for "better service" I would have personally deleted that comment. It's easy to judge about service when you're on the other side. What you think might be better service might be different than what others think.

I would love to be able to contact every single person who has their posts moved or deleted, but it's just not possible. Between nuking spammers, mitigating arguments between people, and trying to keep the Main Discussion Forum as harmonious as possible is a bigger untaking than I initially expected.

But I gladly do it because this forum (and Allen) has given a lot to me and I've made many friends here. I'd like to think that what I do here behind the scenes makes a difference. I have a family and business to attend to as well, so do the other moderators. I cannot speak for them, but for me, my time here is very limited and I have to do as much as I can in as little time as possible.

We're human, we make mistakes and I know I've made my share, but we do the best that we can with what we've got. My job here isn't to try and make everyone happy because that would be a fool's path; my job here is to uphold the rules pursuant to the Terms of Use that everyone agreed to and the rules set forth by Allen and the new owners. And when there is a gray area, we are allowed to make judgment calls.

Normally when someone asks why their post or thread was deleted, that thread gets deleted. So why am I leaving this thread up? I want the members to see that there are valid reasons on why we don't always contact people. And I also want the members to understand we don't delete posts or threads for no reason because if that were the case, the moderators who moderate that way would not last long here.

The post had issues like my personal site link which was violation. The main idea of post to ask IMers and other professionals about what kind of software tools they would like to use and wish. Hence was looking for ideas.
