I must be the Worst IM !

Ive been at this several months, joined this, bought that....

anyway. Clickbank. I have a hard time with Clickbank because to me, the products are complete crap. And some of it is incomplete crap. But EVERYONE says to use it, big commissions etc. So I picked a product, took me forever, and ran a series of articles, squidoo, blogs, and finally ezinearticles. I used good keywords averaging about 20,000 hits a month with reasonable competition.
So my articles placed nicely on google. I have one at first position, one at third, about 8 articles on first page. All of this has generated about two hundred hits in two days, doesnt seem like enough, but... i did send 200 people to the hoplink.. not one sale. To me, doesnt say much for the product or their page if i cant get one sale out of 200 that i sent to them.

Sometimes I think you are all putting me on. Ive got advertising experience, computer experience and Ive sold everything in my life. So maybe its all a scam to get people to buy marketing products?
I could always do that now i suppose, sell a system to newbies, something truly horrible like the clickbank code.

Any suggestions or thoughts on all of this ?

WWIM, I think that your 200 clicks proves without a doubt that it's all a scam. The only people making money are the ones selling dreams to newbies.

Maybe quitting now it the way to go.

Try something other than clickbank, they've been having problems for a while.

Like what other than clickbank. I use shareasale and cj etc. but those are usually actual store , like a vitamin store, and i think harder to sell via article marketing .no?

  • It's not about YOU... it's about your TARGET CUSTOMER. You have to remember in order for you to make a commission you have to provide something of value to your customer... so much value that they are willing to buy it.

So step back from everything you have read, or think you know. And figure out who is your customer. Why would they buy from you? How can you find the people who are ready to buy? And Clickbank may not be the right answer for you. It's one very small option that gets a lot of hype because there is a lot of profit in Digital products.

But there is also a lot of profit in Shoes. Zappos proves that! Finding your niche doesn't mean doing what everyone else does.

If you have good traffic and not sales join adsense and put up some of their contextual ads and move on to another niche. But before you do that make sure you understand WHY people are not buying your product. It could be the product itself, it could be your links, it could be....

100 visitors a day isn't bad at all.
Get your own site, build a list, follow up again and again. At this rate you could be getting 25 or more targeted subscribers per day (that's 750 per month).

I'd say you've probably gone further than most do in internet marketing, don't give up and if something isn't working then try something else (new niches, traffic sources, sales methods, ad copy etc)

I havent gone that far its only been a few months, but ive put in many hours.
I started making an ebook. Wrote the ebook about a subject i was good at and there seemed to be a demand. Uses ppc to promote, tons of clicks, one buy.
put a complete web site up, made it a combination niche interest/ affiliate merchandise mall, used ppc and article marketing, feeds, socialmarkers, avg. 40-120 a day. There are over 30 merchants on the site, adsense, affiliate widgets, over twenty articles on hobbies et.
      not a dime.
promoted several clickbank products through ppc, good response, no sales
tried article marketing different products including the coveted "panic away"
      zippo.
joined wealthy affiliate. read over 50 books, videos, you name it.

just a little discouraged folks, i need this to work.

      thanks

Keep at it. You've got a lot of skill and knowledge now. Throw out enough lines and you'll snag something. Meanwhile, you absolutely need to be collecting names via an opt-in. Build your list while you plug along. In 4-6 months you could have a list big enough to really start monetizing at this rate. Time flies.

Sounds like you have the right idea, maybe your keywords or the offer is not very good in your niche. In the future you might try a little bit of ppc to see if the offer converts for those phrases before you do SEO and link building. You can also test the commercial intent with MSN's tool Detecting Online Commercial Intention: Audience Intelligence: adCenter Labs. I usually try to sort phrases by traffic, and then see how much PPC competition there is for that phrase. If the phrases convert well, there should be lots of PPC. If you are going for really long tail phrases, that might not work. In that case you might want to ad buying keyword modifiers to your phrases. Another thing that you can do is study other successful affiliates marketing the offers that you are targeting. Also, you might try working with a different affiliate network. I like clickbank, but CJ, Pepperjam, neverblue, might also be good places for you to check out.

    Hope that helps!

Stick with it. You know how to build sites, write ebooks and get traffic. You are well on your way. I didn't learn that much in my first 3 months.

If your 200 visitors are coming to a niche site and not a specific product; swap out the links with something else and see if that converts better.

If your site IS about a specific product. You can change your copy to not recommend it for a few reasons and recommend something else. So you don't have to lose what you got started.

You can get traffic and get them to click out on a link. Good start. Just need a product they want to buy. Not always easy to find, I know.

I agree with the others, build your own list and then send them to a solution.

If people wont buy your ebook anyway, you could give it away to build a list.

Just some ideas...maybe you just need to sit back for a week of vacation. I know it helps me get back in the groove. Easy to burnout, working so many hours with no rewards yet.

It may not be your articles or the product. It is more then likely the owners sales page that is not converting. If you have this set up as a php redirect on your site. You can simply find another product that would convert better. One that is still similar to your initial product I assure you that there is more then likely hundreds of them. If not just go in and change your urls to the new product and see if that makes a difference.

Thanks for all the positive words. Yes, i do need this. I had my share of personal tragedies this last couple of years, climaxing with the near demise of my 25 year old brick and mortar business. So i went from being a happy man, to near unemployed and a little bit cranky. the power of attraction isnt working for me.
thanks again. ill look over the suggestions again.
