My wife and I are in the process of creating a clothing brand as well. We've been in this process the last 2 years. Lots of planning and masterminding and lots of work, but you probably already knew that, right?

Do you have a website, name for this clothing brand? What have you got going already?

just do your research. No what your target audience likes and doesn't care for. That will help you get started. Good Luck

Sell on Etsy, Ebay, your own website, and shopping portals.

Study your competition, intensely. Study the market, see what is selling. Do your best to put the needs of your target market ahead of your own. And have someone else give you completely objective feedback every step along the way.

Launching a brand is a lot of work, but I'd suggest you to have a solid marketing plan in place before launch. Having good products isn't enough - you have to be able to sell them too.

If you are planning to sell them online, you might consider marketing on FB and Pinterest. I've had success with Pinterest and Amamzon products in the apparel niche.

    Best of luck.

We've created many brands before - If you want to do it big time (like Gucci and Valentino), get on a plane and go to China, cut out the middleman and deal direct with manufacturers. To find clothing manufacturers and suppliers in Asia visit Alibaba.com (Manufacturers, Suppliers, Exporters & Importers from the world's largest online B2B marketplace-Alibaba.com)

    Good Luck!

    My advices :

    1. start a blog about the universe around your brand
    2. start creating a community
    3. social proof
    4. find the best brands, your future competitors and promote them
    5. Put your brand inside, no one will notice
    6. start to sale
    7. get rich and give me some money

First you need to put alot of thought into if you want to create a 'brand' or a 't-shirt line' and sell on the likes of big cartel?

If you want to create a line of t-shirts how are you going to stand out from the crowd? if your not targeting a specific niche then your t-shirt designs need to be top quality because the clothing market is very very competitive. If you want to start a brand 'blanks' with your artwork printed onto them might work at the start but you will quickly find you need to develop your designs and produce some cut and sew products websites like alibaba are amazing for this! Get your designs drawn up and ask manufactures in Turkey, India and China for quotes- the more you buy the cheaper it is.

Some other things you need to think about:

Are you doing this just to make money? if the answer is yes then I'd stop now because to make a clothing BRAND work you need to live and breathe your designs and be able to cope with not making a profit for a good period of time.... brand's like Versace, Gucci, Givenchy and Armani don't become successful overnight.

How are you going to remain competitive? Are you going to compete on quality or on price? Who is your customer and why are they going to buy your product rather than your competitor?

I'd also suggest to anybody wanting to try something like this to get a good in depth business plan in place alongside the marketing plan.
That way you'll have control of any hiccups that may occur before they become major problems. If after the first month of business, sales haven't met those outlined in your business plan, you can sit down, and pinpoint what may be causing the problem. Customer feedback can prove invaluable.

I would also suggest you market your brand on quality, uniqueness and after sales service, rather than price. It is incredibly difficult to compete on price these days and therefore almost pointless.
