How To Use Social Marker.com (The Basics)

by southbaybones 23 replies
Hi,

In the beginning Social Marker is a pain to set up. Keep in mind that it is not an automatic posting service. It allows you to have your pre-written info for easy input to each social bookmarking site.

You have to sign up to each site that you want to submit to. Yes, you may have to confirm a few emails but once you have it set up right from the beginning and you have cookies enabled to remember your user name and password it goes a lot smoother and faster.

Of the 47 social bookmarking sites available I only submit to about 40 of them.

To social bookmark your post you:

1. Go to Social Marker.com and under the Heading - "How to use it? (help)", drag the icon to your bookmarks toolbar (if you're using Firefox browser which I highly recommend)

2. Once that is done, go to the page on your site that you would like to bookmark and then click the Social Marker link that you just dragged to your bookmarks toolbar and a new window should open with the Title and URL filled out. All you need to fill out is a description and your keywords/tags.

3. Right below that box is the social bookmarking sites that you can submit to. Some may not fit in with your niche. That's okay don't submit there. About 35-40 of them will work with almost any niche. Choose your categories carefully.

4. Once you have your sites selected, click the Submit button at the top of the page and the fun begins.

5. At the bottom you will see the details you had filled out in Step 2.

6. For those sites that do not automatically put in your info for you, click inside the little box at the bottom and drag the text to the appropriate field.

7. Follow the instructions for each site and once you know it has been posted/submitted, click the Next button at the top to go to the next site and do it all over again until you have submitted to them all. (There's a stat box in the top right corner letting you know how many sites you have submitted to and the total number of sites you checked from Step 3.)

I hope I haven't made this too confusing. If you have any questions, post here and I will answer as soon as I can.

Take care,

South Bay Bones

I love this free service. Took me a bit of time the first time around, but now I am breezing through when I submit.

I am having trouble when submitting my EZA articles. SM seems to redirect to the article... so I can't submit any of them!

Anyone got a fix for this?

Are you submitting to Ezine articles or Social Marker. Social Marker is for submitting to social bookmarking sites. Ezine Articles is where you submit your articles.

Maybe I don't understand your question, please clarify.

          Christian,

I have articles on EZA. I take the EZA article link and bookmark that.

By the way I found out what the problem was: one of the bookmarking services. I just don't bookmark there now and the problem is solved (it was MyLinkVault.com, I think).

I've just started using social marker and it is a great tool.

I'm wondering, is it ok to bookmark more than one page from the same domain?

I have 100's of pages and there's a few I'd like to bookmark but not sure if it would be spamming to do more than the home page. Each page is a different topic.

I use socialmarker .com also and love it, it took me about an hour to signup for all of them and bookmark it all. But after finishing it up, I have had over 100+ visitors to my blog within an hour. Just make sure it is an article that is appealing the the category that you are posting in!

Are there any concerns with social bookmarking spam with this type of mass bookmarking service? Will it get you banned from Digg, etc?

I've used OnlyWire in the past which I believe is a similar service.

Good question Ron, I saw someone say on the forum that the best way to not get flagged for spam is to use it for other people's sites also that impress you as well as your own sites. If you do your own all the time it will draw a flag,

Now I'm not an expert at all on this just being a forum parrot right now...

But I do have a question. How can you check social.com to see if you using it correctly or if your page was registered. I used it this a.m. and all this stuff was going on down in the lower address bar, flying through sites. But I'm not signed up for most of them so what was that about?

So it would be nice to check my submission.

                Thanks,

When put in all my information and start to submit my site to my selected social bookmarking sites, I land on a social bookmarking site, but then within 2 seconds, I get redirected back to the original site I'm submitting! Anyone else having this issue?

For example, if the first site I want to submit to on my checkoff list is Propeller, click "submit" to start the process, get directed to Propeller, then within 2 seconds, I get redirected away from socialmarker.com and land on my page that I'm trying to submit.

I've used Firefox and IE and still run into the same issues. What gives?

HAlf the sites I select I can't submit too....they simply will not allow me to login. Outside of social maker I can login just fine (yes, I have a valid and active account).....it seems to be an issue with the frames.

I've tried on different PCs (different connections) and the same old.

I persevered and troubleshooted, but what a headache.

Sorry guys, thumbs down for this service.

I could not get on with social marker. Instead I set up a bookmark group in Firefox with each link pointing at the submit page of each SB site. I then "Open all in tabs" to get all the sites loaded in tabs in one go.

Then with my url, title, tags and description in notepad I first copy the url and paste it into the form on every tab. I then do the same with the title and the rest of the information. Eventualy all sites are done.

I find this much quicker and a much more reliable way of social bookmarking than using socialmarker.
