Can you get in trouble for selling PLR articles?

I saw on PLR assassin they had a "PLR" bundle of wordpress themes, but it was listed as for personal use only? I thought Private Label Rights meant you could sell the content AND change it, am I wrong?

Some PLR sellers do not license it to sell to others, only to change and use yourself. That's pretty useless PLR IMO.

Not if you don't want to be a PLR seller. Most of us find that to the best PLR, because you won't get the lazy buyers who just turn it around and sell it on (creating more competition and almost always a fast downward spiral on price.)

I've just found that not being able to pass it on is too restrictive for me who may want to use it as web content and pass that on, or use it as a bonus, etc. There's plenty around that gives me rights I can live with.

Hmm...sounds like we're talking about different things here. I've never seen PLR that I couldn't pass on or use as a bonus, just that I couldn't convey PLR rights.

Many PLR sites like PLR Assassin (I am a member too) offer more than PLR. In addition to PLR you will find MRR (Master Resale Rights), RR (Resale Rights) and Personal Use only.

You need to read the individual PLR Assassin license that comes with the download.

WordPress can be a bit of a grey area for rights on PLR sites because the GPL license WP themes are developed under passes to the buyer.

Some premium themes block this with an activaton key/license that prevents users from accessing or modifying the theme but most themes I see on PLR sites do not have these types of restrictions.

The best is to assume nothing and read the license that comes with the product.

  • it depends on what country you live in and how much freedom your rulers (regulators) give you. In some countries you will get in trouble for waking up and going about town let along PLR. So yes you can and some places you are free to sell PLR so check with your local laws.

      Expert,

I'm not sure that the country you live in or your local laws apply to this discussion. They might if a PLR seller were to try to enforce his copyright (like a U.S. copyright in a foreign country).

Every PLR creator has the right to determine and specify his/her own product usage and distribution terms. Typically, when you buy the PLR you agree to the terms offered. I have never seen country specific rights in a PLR product. IMO, if you create it, you have the right to say how it can be used. It is "one size fits all" in my book if that's what the author wants.

As others have said, check the license, some allow to edit but use for yourself, others allow selling. MRR and RR allow selling (but probably not editing, unless they have PLR too).

It's best to discuss your resale plants with the original seller before proceeding. Every creator has different rules, as other Warrior members have mentioned. It's better to be safe than to be in legal trouble later.
