Google Authorship, Pen Names, Across different Niches?

So Google Authorship is important, I don't think we need to debate that. I think what is up for debate is the use of pen names in authorship, when dealing with multiple, non-related niches.

I'm looking to get opinions from others who are in more than 1 niche and whether you use a pen name or not.

Obviously if you're in MMO, then a weight loss niche could dilute your relevance.

The pros of using a pen name, I would think, is to keep relevance within your pen name and industry. No one wants to be a jack of all trades, master of none, type of thing.

However, the CONS.. of using a pen name, would be potential future "google slaps" with facial recognition software of authors. Are we years away from that? Another CON, would be added work of multiple social media accounts to build authority to that pen name.

Looking forward to some other insight, and thoughts into this.

I realize this could probably go into the SEO section. The reason I did not post it in the SEO section is because I have a feeling the main forum has more people in multiple niches, and likely to have different outlooks. Also, it isn't just an SEO issue, it's an issue that has consequences and touches into different areas of internet marketing.

I'm all for the use of pen names. As a writer, I think it's important to avoid brand confusion. I write nonfiction, fiction and children's books. I do use my own photos. I'm not really that concerned that facial recognition will be a problem anytime soon. I wear a lot of different hats, lol!

Thanks for the response. I kind of feel the same way, but do you have multiple authority sites in different niches? I understand as an author and writing books you may not have the same issues as someone with multiple niches and different accounts with different pen names.

I do have some different "niche sites" and I use a pen name for them. It bothered me to think somebody would find me being an expert on one thing and then with something very different.

  • I always published under my name for the Business niche but started branching out and now use pen names. The process is easy and they have pretty good support which is how I figured it out.
