Ideas to get the attention of potential JV partners

We're working on launching a new site and I need to get the attention of some potential JV partners. My first thought was to just send them a short note in an overnight Fedex envelope and try to get them to view the webpage we've created for them with all the details.

Then I thought maybe I'd go one step further and create a fancy color postcard or something to stick in the overnight envelope instead vs. just a printed note. Think it would make a difference?

Anyone have any other cool ideas? I've heard some off the wall stuff like people sending an overnight package with crazy (but related) stuff in it like a basketball, etc.

Just sending them a piece of paper isn't likely going to get their attention. Send them a copy of your product if is a physical product. If it isn't, make a physical copy just for them.

Sending a gift along with it works well. So if you know that the JV partner likes cameras, then send them a really nifty camera. Send them something that they like, even if it isn't related to the product.

Mike Filsaime even mentions sending them a cheque...just make sure it isn't too big so it is a waste of money, but not so small that it devalues them and basically insults them.

Communicate with them in more than one way. Send them an email, send them an overnight Fedex package, and give them a follow up phone call. You can even contact them on Twitter or Facebook. The more communication methods you use, the more likely you will be to succeed.

Send them a video. When you send them an email, embed a video thumbnail or send them to a video where you explain the whole deal. Many people just send text JV invites, so do something different and make a video specifically for each JV partner.

Make sure that you add a personal note for each JV partner to show that you actually care enough to put some time into the proposal. Hand write and hand sign the letter (unless your handwriting is illegible, then use a handwriting font and just hand sign it).

Make whatever you offer personal to show you actually care. Don't send the same thing to more than one person.

Be willing to make special deals with each partner, and be ready to explain why different partners get different deals.

    Hope that helps a little.

While I'm sure these whizz bang ideas do work I'm far more of a fan of long term relationship building so when it comes to promoting your stuff you don't have to do things like this.

This forum is filled with people waiting to promote your stuff if it's high quality and reasonably priced. So I don't see the need to mail people basketballs to get their attention.

    Cheers,

What's to say doing things like sending marketers gifts doesn't help build long term relationships?

Marketers receive JV requests every day. The more popular the marketer, the more requests they get. It doesn't matter how amazing your product is, you have to somehow get yourself noticed and prove that you are different than the 300 other people that contacted the marketer that day.

Once you grab their attention for the first time you can build a long term relationship with them, especially if you have a quality product. But you can't build a relationship with someone if they never notice you.

Is your product high quality? Is it converting well? That's the first step to at least get some small JV partners.

To get big fish you're looking at long term relationship building. Many of them won't promote anything from you if you don't promote anything from them. You need to scratch their back before they even take a look at you.

You don't think so? How can anyone ignore an overnight envelope? They will HAVE to open it and at least look at what's inside. Assuming my offer is unique and extremely strong - which it is - I'm not sure how much more than that I need. I guess I'll find out, but I don't know of anyone who throws away Fedex envelopes unopened.
