Do You Ever SELL The Salesmen?

I'm sure you get the same crappy emails I get from the salesmen trying to sell their services. You know the ones... Where all they talk about is me-me-me-me and not about you.

Well, have you ever sold the salesman?? Have you ever replied to one of their emails and sold them one of your products or services??

I just started replying back to these types of emails a few days ago. So far, I haven't heard back from anyone. ha

How about telemarketers? Ever sell them anything when they call you?

Nope, never tried that but it seems like something interesting to attempt. Especially with a telemarketer, they would probably hang up on you. LOL

This made me laugh! Telemarketers are a kind of captive audience. They really only have 3 options. 1. Hang up on you. 2. Listen to what you have to say, or 3. Try to steer the conversation back to what they want to talk about. If you had a good script it would be interesting to try, especially as those with telemarketing jobs could do with a plan for making money online! :-)

Wealthyclark, I think we should all fire back! It's one thing of the solicitors know about our business, 99% of the time they only talk about themselves. If you try it let us know.

IanGreenwood, I should find a good script to you and try it! The next telemarketer that calls I'll see if I can steer them to where I want them to go. Who knows, the company may actually record the conversation and use it for sales training! haha

hpgoodboy, that's what I figured, but it never hurts to take 20 seconds and reply a message. Maybe create a new link so we could track it if they click it.

I actually run an advertising service, so I think I would have a pretty good chance selling a salesman. Wait, when I think of it that's exactly what I'm doing. LOL

    All the time!

One of my best performing affiliate programs that I am a member of is offering Merchant Accounts to businesses. I get calls all the time from other companies trying to sell me their merchant account services. It's usually just someone sitting at a desk calling a spreadsheet of numbers. When I tell them how much I make for referring a Merchant Account some of them have actually joined the program I promote.

I've noticed people replying to my emails pitching their own stuff as of late haha.

(I know a few of them have bought some affiliate stuff from me, so I can't get mad).

I haven't actually sold any of them anything. Never tried that.

I have trained them when they call

Sometimes one will call the office looking to sell me Internet marketing type services - not realizing that we can do that all "in house" due to the type of business WE are.

I've instructed Jess, my assistant to ALWAYS put them through if I'm in. Then they go on speaker phone and everyone listens as I hear their pitch , beat them up a bit and ultimately rewrite their script for them (because 9 times of 10 they suck).

It's fun, lightens the mood in the office, and even if a tad mean it does help them because they're basically getting a free coaching call from me.

I do NOT hate telemarketers. I can't. I too use telemarketing in certain areas of my business. I just think 98 percent don't have a clue how to do it RIGHT.

My favourite reply to a telemarketer came from an episode of the Jerry Seinfeld show. Jerry gets the telemarketing call, explains that he's having dinner and perhaps he can call the marketer back later.
When the marketer hesitates, Jerry says 'oh, so you don't like being called at home while you're having dinner? Now you know how I feel'
    Priceless.

Hahahaha!!! I love Seinfeld! That was a great episode.

I guess the telemarketers would either hang up, or try to regain control of the conversation. Now, email... I'd think they would at least read the message.

I'm going to try to sell every solicitor that comes my way. :p

It could be awesome to sell something to a telemarketer, you just need to talk with them, as you know them, and they realize you want to sell them something a boom "BEEP BEEP BEEP" xD

Way back in the "snail mail" business, "reverse mailing" was very common. Every newbie would mail to rented lists, or take my business name and addy from my ads.

I would simply cut out the return addy, paste it on my mailing piece and send it back to them. This was one of the best ways to get customers for my ad design and advertising services.

I've thought about it, but doubt it would work the same with email.

Jaypoole, that is funny!!!! Great way to mess with a telemarketer.

There are still some good telemarketers and sales people out there. But perhaps a better option would be to consider some of them as potential recruits for your own marketing team.

For example, over the years many companies have lost some of their well-trained talent by trying to make cold calls to my office staff.

My frontline knew that I was always looking for seasoned sales reps, and they put promising candidates through "evaluation objections", then forwarded to me for the "close".

    Reverse selling.

    Hell yeah!

When I was in an MLM biz opp called Global Resorts Network - way back in '07 I'm thinking, I deliberately used reserve selling as a way to make a lot of money.

    Here's what I did...

I signed up on various lists. (Internet marketers, MLMers, etc.)

I would show interest in what they were pitching and get them on the phone.

Once I did that, I'd trump their results with my own. And instead of pursuing what they were pitching, I got them curious about how I was making so much more money than them.

I had a ridiculously high conversion rate - using this method.

And it was really worth my time. Because these were people who understood how to leverage the internet to produce leads. (Which is the hardest part of MLM.)

We made a lot of money.

Shame GRN went down the toilet.

I feel sorry for telemarketers, the majority of them hate their job and I can't blame them. Who knows you might be able to free a few from their misery and make some money at the same time.

    Lots of great ideas!!!

Mark, still do any reverse selling this way??

Myob and AllieB, nice!!!! Not hard to offer telemarketers a better opportunity.

HelpingYouBeAnExpert, Not sure if it's worth the time or not, but if you pick up the phone or read the email may as well sell 'em.

eljeffe77, the emails I'm talking about are from solicitors who don't know me but sent me a random email trying to sell me something. I get lots of people trying to sell me stuff related to real estate (most of the emails are horribly written, with I I I I I everywere).

I try to sell to the salesperson as often as I can. First I tell them that in order for me to listen to them,
they must write down my business URL, and contact phone number, and promise to have a look at the website, so I can show a short video about the product I get people to join for free. If they don't want to, then I just decline their call, and hang up the phone.
I also tell them that if they want to sell me whatever it is, then they can listen to me about a free to join product. I even do this to door to door salespeople and charity workers.
Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.
    But that is Life.

Had a Charity worker door knocking and after I gave him some money, I enquired whether he was happy getting his percentage of the amount he collects. Naturally he wasnt, so I enlightened him about my product, and how he could earn more money, whilst keeping his charity work in the meantime.
    and Yes, he did join.
Talking to sales persons and other door knockers is a great way to sell your product.

No; and I wouldn't want to. That's a way of confirming that your email address is active and attended to. If you do that, you'll receive even more spam. It's better just to click the "spam" button (if that's what it is) and otherwise ignore them.

Good luck with that. Call me a skepchick but I can't help wondering when you'll need a new email address because you can't stand it any more. Maybe you're much more patient and tolerant than I am, though, and/or have a lot less to do.
