Help! Is this a right thing to do?

Hi warriors,

Currently, I want to try list building.. so this is what I come out with:

1. create squeeze page (submit emails to my list) - offer them free report on weight loss.
2. promote/drive traffics to the page using fb ads - targeting US/UK/3rd world countries
3. send them emails every 3 days..

currently I have 11 subscribers.. I just started it.. total spend = $10 for 11 subscribers..

Let me know what you think.. thanks

Yes, I do use autoresponder. I use mailchimp, because it is free, since I just started to build a list, so I don't want to waste money on paid autoresponder if anything go wrong..

I think of more concern to me would be the low disposable income in third world countries.

Not a great market to target.

There's a reason the traffic to these counties is so cheap -- because very few people want that traffic.

I live in a 3rd world country. Not many people are starving. Plenty of fat people here. Lots of rich people too.

Do they spend money on online weight loss guides though? Maybe not.

The squeeze page and bribe with free report is a flawed method.

For people to open your emails, click and most importantly take action and buy from you they have to trust you and have a relationship.

You can't build up a relationship with cold traffic who doesn't know you and lands on a non personal squeeze page.

People aren't opting in because they want to hear more from you they are just wanting that free report and will often enter fake or secondary emails they never check.

Once they get the report, a lot will never get round to reading it, they'll unsubcribe from your list immediately, forget who you are and mark follow up emails as spam or simply never see them as they go to junk / spam / an email they never check.

You'll get woefully low open and click rates, high unsubscribe and spam complaints and very few people will bother to take action on your recommendations as you're a faceless person sending them random emails that they didn't really want (they wanted the freebie only).

You see why it's not effective?

Better to build a list around a PAID product, blog or site full of great content, a service.

Ideally build a relationship with people BEFORE they opt in.

That way they opt in because they WANT more emails from you and will look forward to opening them = high open, click and sales.

The reason a paid product is better than a free one is people don't value free stuff and never take action. If they buy something they tend to try and make it work. Even if your free report is good and can help them lost weight most won't find out as they'll never try it.

To be honest bro its way too early to early to over think it.

Targeting third world countries because the traffic is cheap is a bad way to look at it. What you need to focus on is breaking even on the front and end and the worry about profiting later.

The reality of traffic is that it takes time to know when a campaign is profitable. It could be as short as a day but in reality it will take a couple week to a month just to know whats going on.

Just focus on breaking even and steady building your list. Thats when everything changed for me. I was able to spend at least 1K per month and break even which allowed me to keep spending money on ads.

The true profits came after the follow up sequence, which was a 30 day follow up.

This is a mistake. The cost is small, the hassle of trying to move your list when it grows is big. GR offers free first month. Aweber has $1 first month. The costs afterwards are small until your list grows and by then you should be making enough to make it a small expense.

Take a bit of time to study your target market, especially demographics. Choose traffic from areas that need your information (mainly, non-3rd world countries). Your fundamentals of a squeeze page and free report are solid, but don't waste your energy driving traffic that isn't your key market.

Then invest in some email marketing training so you can communicate effectively with your growing list.

You just said it Mark, tho he could get highly targeted subscribers easy, instead of going for ads and take the risk, he can buy 200 subscribers for 120$.

      - That's maybe a lot of money for 200subscribers, but agian, you could spend 500$ to get 0 subscribers with ads if you are new :p

I don't want to discourage you, but the idea of offering free reports on weight loss to make someone subscribe to your list doesn't look that tempting.
First of all, the web is already overloaded with information on loosing weight, who would subscribe to anything to receive the same overused info? Unless you have a damn good copywriter that will truly make them believe you have something new and useful to say to them, I don't think you'll have much success with it.
I assume you're trying to sell some products on your website? Why not offer them a discount, a free trial, an ebook relating to the psychological effects of loosing weight - or I don't know, anything that goes out of the box.

Yes, both the lack of food and money probably doesn't make third-world countries a great market for weight loss products. The term "third world" is sometimes used incorrectly however... you would have to tell us what countries you are actually targeting.

But $10 seems OK for 11 subscribers... obviously the lower the better, provided that the traffic is not trash. Conventional wisdom says you should make $1 per subscriber per month. Now obviously this is just a heuristic, but it can be pretty accurate when you take an average person doing an average job with an average list.

I'd say keep going and try to reach 200 subscribers or so if possible... then perhaps cut back a little and test for conversions. It's always good to have some data before you start making radical tweaks... you're on the right track, so personally I'd keep going. You have too little data to draw meaningful conclusions just yet.

10$ for 11 subscribers is a lot for Facebook. I suggest you to narrow down your audience and target it better.

Beside Facebook buy a Solo Ad that targets your audience. It can convert better!

    Good luck!

Yep, also try some ezine marketing, could be good.

May be you want to think about which area of weight loss you want to target, it can sometime be good to focus on a niche within a niche. e.g. middle age women who want to loss weight. More focus can help you communicate more genuinely with a particular niche.

Not really. $1 per qualified lead is actually quite good. We are not talking $1 per click... $1 per lead. Most marketers would be happy with that. You could get it a little lower but it's not bad at all.

I'd much rather pay $1 per lead on Facebook than solo ads that are being pounded with offers each day.

I think you should only focus on the US and UK, and maybe add Canada and Australia as well. And if you still manage to get a subscriber for 1$...that's really good!!

I should also mention that you get to see great results once you pass 1,000 subscribers. Don't jump into conclusions if you only have 100 or so.

  • Also you don't need to drive traffic from only FB there are thousands of other traffic sources. But in general you are right and in the right direction. Good luck.

By now you should know that without consistent targeted traffic being sent to your sales funnel, your blog, squeeze pages, website . . . .

. . . . Your business will either come to a complete STOP!

Or it will never even get off the ground.
I suggest Social Media for targeted traffic like Facebook, Twitter, Pin interest they are all great sources of internet traffic, YES it takes time to create accounts but it actually converts and in the long run it’s far more rewarding. You can target countries which convert without extra cost!

Good Luck buddy, I hope this helps you!
