Total Noob - Where do I start

Hi there Warriors!

This is my first day here and I'm overwhelmed by the amount of information I can find. So much so That I don't know where to start.

I don't really have much prior experience in Internet Marketing, what do you guys think I could do to begin making money online?

Any ideas would be welcome!

THANKS!!

I won.t tell you what to do but what not to do.

    Don't buy everything you see.

Do not bounce from project to project.

    Do not give up.

Do not rush, two years is the norm to a good paycheck

Just focus and if you do then you will succeed.

    Hope that helps.

Yes I totally agree with that Not To Do List, especially "Don't buy everthing you see". As a new comer in the Internet marketing wolrd, I am very often find lots of commercial offering related to tips to get rich quickly. Things that I always think first when I read such information from banners, ads, videos, etc that those information is commercial one, the person that advertise their products trying to generate money from the ads.

I have found that if you can afford a mentor to help you, then you will save yourself not only time, but a lot of stress and money in the process from bouncing around from thing to thing (which is VERY tempting to do in the beginning).

There are many established marketers on here who will be willing to help you, but at the same time be wary of who you give your money to. Even with some good reviews, a coach can still take your money and run.

Nonetheless, a guide in the form of someone who's done it before is priceless.

If you cannot afford a coach, invest in the War Room. The information you find in there is top notch; and your focus is best placed there, as opposed to other parts of the forum. As a matter of fact, with a coach or not, invest in it anyway

Keep learning, but don't think you need to know everything before you start doing. It doesn't have to be perfect, you just need to get going. Be patient, and your success will come. All the best to you!

Research this forum and take notes on areas of internet marketing you think may appeal to you, while crossing off others you think you wouldn't want to pursue.

Then, look for a coach or mentor in your area of choice. Best investment you could make.

      Good advice above.

Also, read this thread started 2 days ago by another noob - it has lots of good advice from other Warriors :

Find one thing and stick to it.

Not being able to make decisions quickly and take action on them will put you an paralysis analysis.

Be skeptical about everything. Learn to think for yourself.

Don't start one thing and then stop once it gets hard. You will have challenges!

Focus on learning and implementing. If you can do that you will gain success much faster than I did. It took me 3.8 years to have a real breakthrough.

Did 18k in 24hrs. Since then I have never looked back. But what was interesting about that experience is that that was the only time in my entire career that I actually took real ACTION and worked my ass off.

Also remember that building any business is a MARATHON not a SPRINT.

Here's my contribution to your ever growing list of suggestions and things to do that you've got from this thread so far:~

      • set out your plan and stick to it and review it daily, weekly and monthly and update it accordingly
      • don't give up – already said I know but needs emphasising
      • get a mentor – someone you can trust to be there for you but not a ''guru''
      • take action everyday – don't be in training mode all the time
      • get a good sound profitable niche
      • use a free traffic source to start with (Twitter, Facebook, You Tube, etc) and then move to paid traffic
      • have a blog and build a solid, loyal following
      • have a highly targeted market audience in your sights
      • make sure you have a great offer/product/service which is highly converting
      • make sales, sales, and more sales then wash, rinse and repeat because if you have sales, sales, sales you have a winning formula to apply in other niches in order to scale up your business and make more sales!

As you said, there is a ton of info on this forum and there are lots of distractions as well as people on the www trying to sell you shinny objects – so my final bit of advice is don't get distracted by all the hype, just stay focused.

I agree, that is a brilliant statement.

We all want to finish the job like a 100 meter sprinter, but most of the time we have to slog it out like a triathlete. It ain't always pretty, but if you keep after it and keep implementing soon it all comes together.

I love the statement I learned from my coach and pass along to people I help. Plan on 3 to 6 months of grueling work before that "internet lifestyle" starts.

By then, you'll be so conditioned to working hard, you'll just keep on plugging along.

If you DO NOT HAVE ANY MONEY, you should start with Twitter. It is fairly easy to become an AUTHORITY if you know what you're doing. Once you're an authority, making money becomes easier. The best part of this is you only need to work a few hours every week to make this happen. No tools to buy. No software. Just common sense and OUTREACH. Get social = Get money!

It doesn't where you start and what you decide to do but that you start is important. Everybody in here started some when in the past and I guess most of us suffered from information overload and the next shiny object syndrome.

Read the forum and decide the direction you wanna go. Chose something you have interest in and maybe already a skill (writing for example). I would always recommend to grab your own name as a domain and to build a blog to brand yourself.

Stay consistent with what you do because that's one of the biggest problems newbies have. Work on your mindset day in day out and see your business from day one as a business and not a hobby.

when I started, I didn't have any knowledge on anything. Especially IM

the first thing I tried online was affiliate marketing, I made my first commission in 3 days, $300 my first 7 days, $1,000 my first 14 and $3,000 my first 30 days.

I think affiliate marketing is a simple way to get started for most people...

My best advice would be figure out exactly what you want to do, then find someone who is doing what you want to do successfully, and learn from them

Just sit back, gain information / knowledge.
Someday you know what direction you want to go, until the day you feel what to do, don't do what people tell you to.

Good advice so far! To be honest when I first started I came on the Warrior forum and got scared by all the choice and experts. Nearly two years later I realise I should not have been scared, the majority of people are willing to help other people out.

Do some research, but make sure you don't let it stop you from getting started, once you start, you can make mistakes and start really learning!:-)

      How new are you?
You need to look at your strengths and weaknesses and match your strengths to a sector of internet marketing that suits your personality and skills.

Unless you anticipate driving traffic from advertising directly to affiliate offers which I wouldn't recommend for a newbie, you're going to need a website or websites at some point. Learn all you can about what this involves and how it works.

After (or ideally at the same) as building a website you will need a sales funnel and a mailing list. But that's a little advanced for now...

    Hola elpuyol, que tal?

The best way to learn internet marketing is to just launch a small site or blog around a niche that you enjoy and know something about, or that you want to learn about yourself. Ideally choose a product-focused niche or one with a decent amount of advertisers spending money (use the Google Keyword tool to research CPC, advertiser competition, etc.).

Start posting quality content to your site on a regular basis. Learn keyword research, basic SEO, and copywriting skills as you go. Promote your site on social media and in relevant forums. After a few weeks, monetize your blog with affiliate ads, Adsense, and/or another ad program. Setup an autoresponder and capture email addresses to build a list of people interested in your niche.

Once you start making some money, re-invest most of it into good whitehat SEO services (e.g. link building) and possibly some great "flagship" content to attract more links, social traffic, social signals, etc. Consider using your new skills to launch more sites in more niches, to diversify your income and reduce risk.

The most important thing: take action and focus on actually doing, rather than reading/studying. Most newbies spend most of their time in forums instead of trying out new things. Achieving fast success in IM is truly all about "learning by doing!"

    Good luck!

Since you're a complete beginner, I highly recommend you join Fiverr and start selling gigs for a while. That's where I saw my first $100 in my PayPal balance and has ever since motivated me. Also if you have a spare $20 lying about online, you can get access to the War Room. It's perfect as it offers so much information that you can't find anywhere plus they give out awesome eBooks. Other than that, you should do some research on internet marketing and find out what interests you.

Pick one thing and focus on it. I fell into a trap of buying wsos over and over and jumping from thing to thing wasting thousands of dollars not to mention about 4 years. I started making real money when I focused on one thing, found out what worked and did it over and over. • There is one thing I wish I mastered in the very beginning (and NO it ain't list building!) which is where to get consistent targeted traffic from.

I say this because you're going to come into so many, many money making opportunities that you can plug into for free BUT none of them will produce unless you know where to get targeted traffic from over and over again.

The reason I no longer say list building is the most important is because you first need traffic to build that list:rolleyes:

Once you know how/where to get targeted quality traffic then you will be able to promote ANYTHING easily!

I am also new to IM. I think I am suffering from information overload. I have come across so much good information and advice, it is hard to know where to start.

I know that I have to do something, so this is my plan:
      1. Buy a ready made authority site, and promote clickbank products.
      2. I think I will also sell blog space since the ready made site will be highly ranked.
      3. Try to build an email list from viewers to my page.
Hopefully this will provide some results.

Building a list by driving traffic to your blog and or squeeze should be top priority.

Don't believe everything you read on a sales page for an authority site about how it will rank.

Ask for examples of other people just like you who have little experience and hit the ground running after buying their product. Then IF they give examples check them out thoroughly before you jump.

I still believe that building a list with your own blog documenting your progress as you learn will always be better than any pre-made site. How many other pre-made sites will be out there exactly like yours? Chances are...a lot.

Like many here, the best place to start is where not to start:
    - Don't fall for any false guru claims
    - Push Button Systems do NOT exist
    - Don't expect to become a millionaire overnight (or in the next few years for that matter)

As far as I'm concerned as a marketer online, this is how I would start:
    1. Pick a niche (that is NOT MMO or IM if you don' know about it). Pick something you have knowledge on, a passion for, or want to learn more about.

    2. Create a short guide/report (10-15 pages) on the subject.

    3. Set up a squeeze page and give away the report for free.

    4. Build up the list.

    5. Promote larger paid products/membership sites/courses/physical products.

In a lot of industries, you create a product and then take it to market. With IM, you can create your market and then tailor products to that market on a regular basis. Over the course of a year or two (as you continually grow the list), you'll begin to grow a following that buy from you every couple of months when you launch a new product.

It's all about trust. People do not know you, so build up that trust, show you're knowledgeable and ultimately you will make sales.

    Hi,

Congratulations, you've homed in on the single biggest problem. Information overload.

So that's give you a head start on success. So focus like a laser on these three steps and avoid chasing after every push button miracle that promises to make you a million bucks by Friday.

If you do these three steps, you'll join the 3% eleite who DO make money on line, rather than staying with the 97% who never make a red cent - but spend plenty on the next big thing ...

STEP ONE: First of all decide which of the EVERGREEN markets you'd be interested in making money in. They are: Health, Wealth and Happiness.and include, alternative health, weight loss, body building. In the Wealth market there is forex, small business, internet marketing, stock market investing. And in the Happiness section there's dating, hobbies and sports.

The important thing is to choose a profitable niche in one of these markets first and a secondary consideration should be what you are interested in.

But don't pick an interest first - for example: I don't suppose there's much money to be made in selling stuff about the other side of the Moon. (Now someone will come along and say they've made a couple of million bucks doing just that!).

STEP TWO: Then you should start to build a list (vital) and sell products as an affiliate.

Why? because there's enough to learn with generating traffic. So, by selling other folks PROVEN sellers, you put product creation on the back burner until you are a traffic black belt.

STEP THREE: Then you can take all the knowledge you've amassed being a super affiliate and create your own product. What's more you'll have a ready made market - your list.

    Hope that helps!

    Paul

    Hope that helps.

Start with your web design. Remember, there are zillions of websites online so your site is going to have to be ahead of the pack by looking its best.

Get a good overview of the different areas of IM.

Pick ONE area that you feel fits you best.

Forget about everything else and focus only on this.

If you can afford it, then do some research and find the best coach for your chosen area. There's good info re coaches on this forum.

If you can't afford a coach, then research and find the best course and stick to it until completion.

Unsubscribe to all the email lists you are on.

Focus on learning a task and then immediately implementing.

Set yourself REALISTIC goals and break it down into mini goals and a plan of action, so you know where you are heading and not just gaining knowledge with no purpose

You are in for an amazing journey, expect a steep learning curve and many ups and downs.

Know that you are not alone and most of all ENJOY THE RIDE.

We get the same question multiple times a week BUT this time I have a different answer...Based on WHERE you live, find a product(s) that people could not find locally that represents your native area.As far as building a website, SEO, traffic & social media, many on here could help. When you have something unusual at a good price, people will spread the word for you.

After making plenty of stupid mistakes in marketing, the biggest pieces of advice I have for newbies are:

    1. Choose a niche/business model and stick with it. I spent too much time bouncing from one thing to another, but one reason was because I was chasing the money instead of doing what I was passionate about. So, also pick something you have fun with!

    2. HAVE A GOOD WEBSITE! I spent waaaay too much time screwing around with my website, and changing it constantly. It doesn't have to be perfect right away, and you will make tweaks to it all the time, but get yourself set up with a solid website that you like, and understand how to change.

There are a lot of other things to know and learn, but in my experience, these were the two really big issues.

We've all been there. For me, I just dove right in and learned everything there was to know about SEO. Then I began promoting affiliate products via Youtube videos and that's how I got my first consistent $3000/month. Now I'm learning more about website building and conversion tactics. Just get your hands dirty man, that's the best way to really learn. Stay away from "quick fixes". Anything that isn't proven, long term, and seems shady. Be willing to put the time, and effort in and eventually you'll begin to gain some traction.

I'm thinking of traffic. 2 Things come to my mind...

Ranking Your Own Site = Takes Time.
Ranking YouTube Videos = It's Faster.

Maybe you can do Video Marketing to affiliate products to get started. Less skills required, no web design, low content creation, less seo.

And if you can send people to a squeeze page and then redirect it to the affiliate offer, you'll be building a list (to sell other related products in the future) in the process.

    Just my 2 cents.

I would suggest that you first search for a mentor/coach in Network Marketing. Use your judgement when you find one and a mentor that thinks more about the success of his students than his own benefits, and don't invest without giving it some thought as many mentors will ask you to buy a product first and then mentor you, and most often, they drop you out of the picture little by little.

And like a previous poster said, don't jump in everything and anything, and once you find something within your interests, then "Stick" to it! Loyalty to a system, program or opportunity is key to your success.

It takes years to get good results and a decade to become a top earner in the niche you chose without a mentor. A mentor/coach will cut this time about in half.

    1) Choose one strategy, just one, to learn initially.
    2) Find a coach who specializes in that strategy and has a good reputation.
    3) Stick with it until you learn it and have actually made money with it.
    4) Become an expert in that area and teach others.

You shouldn't worry about it. Always keep in mind. Internet Marketing is a business and it needs time to grow as any other business.

As a complete newbie you should do those....
    1. Learn Basics of Internet Marketing by reading articles from popular IM blogs and thread of this forum. It might take 6 months of study. Keep reading different things daily. You will learn lot of new things each time.
    2. After understanding how IM works, buy any course from to marketer.
    3. Stop reading anything else.
    4. Stop reading and start taking action
    5. Apply what you learned so far
    6. Keep testing
    7. Keep tracking
    8. Repeat
Keep in mind its a learning curve and it takes time. But once you are into it, sky is the limit. Don't do multi tasking. Focus on one thing at a time

    Thanks
