Howdo you think the bad bot traffic affects us IMers?

Robotic traffic is artificial and not targeted - it would increase our statistics but not the type of statistics we want, as we want human subscribers and human buyers.

I think a recent example of how robot traffic can cause problems is what happened about a month ago with Aweber. Aweber was flooded with so much artificial robotic traffic that it resulted in all us human users not being able to use the website at all.

Unfortunately this seems to becoming more of a problem with major websites.
On the upside, it makes big websites more aware of the issue so they increase their levels of protection.

I've just finished writing a report on bot and fake traffic, and I can say it affects marketers heavily, especially the ones who are using solo ads to bulid their lists and business.

There are lot of scammers even on secure services like Safe Swaps, so people aren't really aware of that problem. Most of them cannot detect fake traffic nor its consequences. So, how it affects marketers?

- They lose their money while buying fake traffic
- They have their lists polluted with fake stats and emails
- They are wasting their time on unresponsive lists
- They eventually (most of them) give up IM thinking they aren't good enough, but they were actually trying to engage fake users all the time

There is flood of fake traffic, especially on Fiverr so if it sounds too good (1000 visitors for $5) then it probably is.

I am addicted to watching my live traffic stats in my hosts cpanel lol, It is really interesting all the damn bots and crawlers that are constantly on my websites. And I see when some ahole from russia is trying to log in, lol.

Phil makes some very good points above about how this affects us.

As someone who dabbles in solo as sales and funnel traffic, if the traffic I'm receiving is bad (bots, click farm, whatever) then my clients get bad traffic too, which garners me a bad name. And that's just the direct impact from clicks as a commodity.

This has been going on for well over 10 years and is not about to stop anytime soon. It affects millions of websites which is why many of us write programs to block, send away, and kill bots.
