Good software for recording on-screen video tutorial

Hi all

I've some questions on recording video tutorials. Hope someone can help me.

1) What's a good software to use to record on-screen videos? I've interested in producing some video tutorials on how to set up software, etc.

2) I'd like a software that lets you add captions, you know, like little speech boxes which explain what you're doing on screen. Something like what you see here:

https://www.namecheap.com/support/kn...-for-my-domain

3) How do I encode them into MP4 video format?

4) Can I add a catchy tune?

Thanks a lot!

    • Try Camtasia. I use it and I am very satisfied with it.
      • [ 1 ] Thanks
  • For the PC, Camtasia is the best. It can do everything you mentioned, plus a ton more.
    • [ 1 ] Thanks
  • I use camtasia
  • 1) I use camstudio to record screen.

    2) To add captions, I use Windows Movie Maker.

    3) To convert I use "any vidoe converter" - I think this is one of the best converting tool.
  • You can use Camtasia studio, Free Screen recorder for making a creative video.
  • I use also camtasia! It's a fantastic tool and it does all the things you mentioned.
  • I use Camtasia for all of my tutorial videos. I use the Audio Technia AT-2020 USB microphone. You can add captions and callouts using Camtasia and export your video as an mp4 file.
  • I have been using the camstudio for a long time. You can add any sound or, animation to make more attractive by video editing software. then you can convert the video file by any video converter in any suitable format.
  • Thanks all - I'm going to get Camtasia

    • Hi Gary,

Here are the answers to your four questions:

      1) What's a good software to use to record on-screen videos? I've interested in producing some video tutorials on how to set up software, etc.

      Camtasia, without a doubt!

      2) I'd like a software that lets you add captions, you know, like little speech boxes which explain what you're doing on screen. Something like what you see here:

      https://www.namecheap.com/support/kn...-for-my-domain

It looks very much like they've actually used Camtasia, because I recognize those little speech boxes!

      3) How do I encode them into MP4 video format?

Camtasia will produce the video straight into MP4.

      4) Can I add a catchy tune?

Yup, add anything you like on to the 'Audio' track.

      Warmest regards,

      Paul
  • Hypercam worked well for me. It has a simple menu, and it's very user-friendly.
  • When I started I used Camtasia for years then I discovered Screenflow and switched to that for a few years, I just switched back to Camtasia I find their improvement was huge and they have surpassed Screenflow. I'm building a new info product with it as we speak on Camtasia.
  • VSDC if you want a free one that's not as buggy as Camstudio. Also check out their range of free audio and video editing tools.
  • Camtasia its the best try it!
  • There is a great free tool called jing - easy and fast!
  • According to your description, you do not only need to capture tutorial videos, but also need extra edit features like add subtitles and dubbing for the video or add audio effects, you can have a try Smartpixel, it has all the features you need.
  • If you're on a mac get screenflow
  • Being on a mac this was kind of a challange at first. After trying just about every screenrecorder there is, I stumbled upon ScreenFlow.

Really awesome application available through the App Store.
Only to find out Quicktime has this feature built in :/

    Oh well...
  • I use camtasia studio, but good free alternatives are:

    Jing
    Blueberry flash recorder
    Screencast-o-matic (web based)
  • Weird, no one mentioned about Bandicam it is the easiest software to record so far.
  • Camtasia studio is the one I have used and still using . It is excellent. For free alternatives, you can use Jing.
