Hey Warriors,

This morning, I received a very insightful email from a wealthy friend. It's a little bit of a game, so I thought I'd share it with you and see what comes up.

Here we go ...

When you click on the following link, you'll find a list of the world's 100 wealthiest people:

List of the 100 wealthiest people - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Now, answer this question:

What (if anything) do they all have in common?

I don't know if it is true for all of them, but a large majority give large amounts to charity each year, perhaps the laws of attraction and good karma.

Sure we want to be rich but who sets out and won't stop until they are? Not alot of us.

There are women on the list.

As for the Waltons, they only get 4 spots on the list because Sam is gone and his money has been divided. I seriously doubt any of them would have made the list without Sam's money.

They all came in the world naked and empty handed.

They all will die (some maybe naked) but all definitely gonna leave empty handed again.

I believe the answer is in the first paragraph....

"The total net worth is an estimate measured in United States dollars, based on the closing stock prices of the stock exchanges on which each person's company is listed..."

They all own stock in companies that they own that are listed companies!

In other words....the list is a list of net worth on paper.

That might explain why Buffet is always so stingy, he doesn't actually have any cash in his wallet!

First of all Warren Buffett is hardly "stingy" unless you think the money you spend on personal expenses should somehow match your net worth.

But the principle Buffett understood and embraced was compound interest.

He drove an inexpensive car for many years even when he was a multi-millionaire because he'd worked out how much the $40,000 he might spend on a car today would be worth when you compounded it by 30%+ interest a year for 10 years...

$551,433 to be exact and yes Buffet at one time was getting 30%+ annual net worth increase on his investments.

Buffet wasn't too excited about effectively paying half a million dollars for a car so he kept expenses like this low until his net worth was so high it made very little difference.

                              Kindest regards,
                              Andrew Cavanagh

Just tell us the answer the suspense is killing me:

I think that none of them acutally invented the wheel - so to speak.

They all adapted an already existing "thing" and figured out how to make money from it.

                                        Pure guess.

Oh, and I can pretty much garantee that all of them invest in property/real estate in someway.

No one person can end poverty by simply writing a check.

Take 60 B USD (the higher range fortune rounded) and divide among 6 B people (world population set to a nice round figure) and each person on the planet gets $10! Even when you adjust for poverty levels and exchange rates, it wouldn't make a huge dent.

Poverty is a much bigger and more complex problem than can be solved by simply taking from the rich and giving to the poor.

Do it that way and the rich would probably end up rich again and the poor would end up poor again regardless.

It is interesting that most of the truly financially wealthy inherited the money from good ol' grandpa or great grandpa.

However, wealth is also meassured by contentment, happiness, children and righteous living. However, money is also like oxgen, when you need it, you need it now.

Mmmm, Carlos Slim its the only owner of ALL the only phone company in Mexico, then he is also the owner of Telcel, the ONLY cell phone company that own all the cell phone infrastructure in Mexico too (Telefonica Movistar rent their infrastructure to Telcel so is not even a competition really) and then buy another countries phone and cell phones companies too, so he have a huge monopoly.

They all invested time and money in their education and than took action on it once they got it (in other words, once they got the education, they didn't go into information overload, they acted upon the information they received)

Look at how they got their fortunes... Investments, software, diy furniture that falls apart so you have to buy more and more until you smarten up and buy real furniture, food, gambling, steel, oil, made-in-China lead-painted cheap plastic goods, crummy computers, candy, rentals, banking, shoes, make-up, electronics...

                                  They have nothing in common!

They all know how to laugh, how to get angry and definitely, how to eat and use the bathroom. They have the SAME MIND as ours!

And you know what they don't only have something in common among themselves, they are as common as all of us...Heck..They also pick their noses...

The answers here are very much eye opening, sometimes humorous but mostly enlightening, realizing that these people came-in like us feels like us, struggles like us and will die like us. There are actually no lines dividing them from us..In reality we are the ones making them rich, we buy their products or services right. If there are divisions between us and them they won't get rich, infact the main reason they got to be wealthy is because they learned how to use the connection and similarity in all people by providing products and services.

There are differences though, we may it with ordinary metal spoons, they could have gold!

They could go anywhere and swarns of people would follow them..As for us only our childrens could do that, and sometimes still with necessary motivation.

I believe the common denominator is that they all built a business from which their wealth emanated from. Mr. Buffett is different in the fact that he didn't create a business like most, his business was buying businesses or the stock of businesses. But even is wealth emanates from his ownership of Berkshire Hathaway who's business is buying up companies and the stock of companies.

So like most folks here, they are all business people growing their company so as to become wealthy. There is a chance for us to do the same. How would it be...

    hello,

Here's something interesting, four out of the 100 are family members of Sam Walton of Wal-Mart. That's 4% of the list.

Their combined wealth equals $76.6 billion which would make them number one on the list.

Just goes to show you how much money there is in selling cheap, low-quality items.

I'd like to share a story with you all. Hopefully you find it interesting...

When I was 19 years old I worked at a barbershop... I used to cut hair. There was a guy named ----- that worked for the secret service. He was one of the guys that would actually travel with and protect Bill Clinton-post presidency.

He was a very tall black guy with salt & pepper hair... what I remember most about him was that he was a big time Raiders fan, which was crazy to me because he wasn't from California. It's rare that people outside of California root for the Raiders, but that's a whole different story.

Anyhow, my friend---who owned the barbershop was his barber. And one day a discussion started about Oprah and how rich she is. I personally hate having discussions about other people and their riches... it makes me feel small time.

So this guy starts talking about how there was a time that he visited one of Oprah's homes while on duty protecting someone that I can't remember.

As he explained his experience at Oprah's house I watched the his face closely. Not only was he in awe of her and her estate. But, the look on his face was a look of inferiority.

He was convinced that Oprah was living a life that he would never be able to have for himself.

I was amazed by this... I am a big thinker. I like many of you, don't believe that there is anything that I can't accomplish. In fact, I've always thought that everyone should have the same outlook as me on this. Maybe that's my arrogance.

      Almost finished...

The whole time that this guy was talking, I just listened. I didn't chime in not one time until he made this comment.

I remember him saying verbatim that, "the kind of money that Oprah makes can only be dreamed about by people like us."

When I heard him say that I was enraged. Here I am, almost 20 years old in a barbershop cutting hair for a living. And that comment sent me through the roof.

I thought to myself, how dare he lump me into the same category as him and everyone else like him.

Ever since that day, my life has changed. In a way I'm thankful. This guy was the catalyst for what ended up being a very successful real estate investing career. And now a very successful Internet Marketing career.

I have not, and will not ever forget those words.

I hope that you can find relevance in this reply... hopefully this is not seen as out of place.

But, I can honestly say that this is the first time I've ever told this story.

When the topic of rich people came up, I couldn't resist...

Ever since that day, my financial status has constantly increased. Sure,I've had my ups and downs... who hasn't. But, I always come out on top.

And I never forget that day...

My bitterness may be why I get so passionate about this.

But my point in writing this very long reply, is to communicate that we all have what it takes to be on that list.

We can all be billionaires... we just have to aim high.

      Peace...

p.s. If you are wondering what my response to his comment was. Let's just say that it might be a little too inappropriate for me to mention in the forum.
