So I've worked my entire career (Almost 20 years) in every imaginable department in commercial truck dealerships, and now I'm the IT and Marketing director for them. We are doing some very unique things that drive a lot of traffic/leads to the company I work for. These are all my ideas that I've come up with, and I've tracked/managed the processes on them and have had some great results. After talking to other commercial truck dealerships, there is a real gap:

1) They don't have a marketing person
2) If they do, they are brain dead

I want to take my knowledge and monetize it. I'm not sure the best way to go about doing this, as I want to keep my regular "day" job since it is pretty cushy and pays well.

My initial plan is to come up with a couple of high-quality eBooks that are laser focused on certain aspects that are focused around a truck dealership, since I know how they operate inside and out. Each eBook will probably be around 30-50 pages.

I've also outsourced a couple people from overseas using oDesk to compile a list of every available franchised & non-franchised truck dealership in the United States. This list will have company name/address, contacts, websites, and a good amount of email addresses. I'll be doing email marketing and a rotating direct mail (postcard) to get the word out.

What is the best strategy to go from there? Launch the first PDF when its done and just sell it? Wait until I have 3-4 different PDFs done and then try to bundle it all together? Create a website with a forum and easy customer interaction? I don't know if a squeeze page or affiliates really apply to me here since this is so narrow focused. I'm guessing I can get $30 to $50 per PDF fairly easily.

My gut tells me that once I start putting this stuff out there, companies are going to be contacting me for help to get them going... Which will bring an entire new set of problems I guess.

I just want to his the ground running and have everything lined up when I've got the product ready, so I'm all ears for any advice everyone has!

Thanks!

One thing to consider is where your traffic will come from. You can have the best idea, information, website on the planet, but if there aren't enough of your target customers looking for solutions online, then it won't sell.

    So, look for:

    1. Keyword research using Google Keyword Tool (basic, but it works) to see if you can find search counts around keywords you think you could target online - ex "commercial truck marketing", "commercial truck leads", "commercial truck business online", etc... You ideally want to find some search activity to know that your audience is looking for the info you have

    2. Are there websites that you could advertise on, blogs that you can write informative posts with links back to your site, discussion forums where your customers hang out, social network participation on Twitter, Facebook, etc...?

You must find a path to reach your target customer online...otherwise all you have is a great idea, great product, but nobody will find it.

If you find that after doing #1 & #2 above you are unsure - ask yourself if the techniques you have developed are transferable to other industries where the audience is either a) larger or b) more reachable online
