Ugly truth about fiverr seller

I recently order a gig from fiverr's seller end up giving negative feedback.

He then reply to me saying "Hi, I will refund you if you can remove the feedback please. Thanks"

Look like he can't beat my negative feedback at all. How will you response it?

I would just let it ride and find somebody else. Chances are you wouldn't get your money back.

If the seller deserved the negative feedback, let it stay as an honest review for future buyers. If you think you did not get what you paid for, you can contact Fiverr about the issue and you may get a refund if the seller is not refunding unless you remove your negative feedback.

I am curious if the seller indicated that he clearly understood WHY you were unhappy and if he suggested any remedies to you, except a refund if you removed the negative feedback.

To me, that would tell me a great deal about his service and his character.

I have a fiverr seller account that has sold over 350 gigs. One time i recieved a negative feedback for something silly. I offered to refund and do another gig for free if they remove the feedback. Worked out well.

When a sellers feedback goes bellow 97-98% it can kill their business.

As a service provider, I understand how bad reviews CAN really kill our business. Which is why doing our best is THE goal.

But things sometimes don't work out between buyer and seller, this is an unavoidable (though sad) fact in business.

From a seller's POV, I'd communicate with the buyer, rectify the error or misunderstanding, and try to work out a way to satisfy the customer (yes, a free gig and a refund is a good way to do it), until the buyer decides to tone the bad review down.

I'd not egg the buyer to remove the bad feedback, just convince him/her that I can do better and request that the buyer also considers the ramifications (whatta word) of the bad review.

On the other hand, if the seller TRULY deserves to be flogged, stoned and burnt in hell, GO FOR IT, punish the sinner!!! Ask for a refund if you can't use the output at all, after all, why pay for something you can't and WON'T use. And leave that review for the sake of warning other buyers.

This actually happens VERY frequently (had a couple similar incidences) though Fiverr is still great for getting cheap videos or content...not so much for those higher risk tasks.

I typically look for "negative" reviews which you can choose through sorting when looking at a gig.

I would second that: there is a very ugly side to Fiverr. It hosts dishonest sellers and because the rating system has a massive loophole (sellers can cancel gigs and thereby avoid negative feedback) it passively endorses this kind of behavior.
Why? Because it's a business and it doesn't have a "don't do evil" ethic.

(Looking for negative feedback doesn't work if the seller is dishonest and smart, unfortunately)

I'm sure the vast majority of sellers are honest, but my experience is that there is a sizeable minority who are, at best, misleading people, and at worst are downright crooks, plain and simple.

The only solution I can think of is to go in with eyes wide open: if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

Anyone from Fiverr reading this care to comment? I'd love to hear your side of the story.

I have been both selling and buying gigs on Fiverr for almost 4 years now... Rarely do I have problems either with gigs I buy or sell.

As a seller, I always over-deliver and people are almost always pleased.

As a buyer of gigs, I always look at the feedback a seller has. If they have zero feedback or negative feedback, I do not order their gig.

Nowadays, I only buy gigs which meet 2 criteria :

        1. Lots of positive feedback.
        2. Seeing that they have repeat buyers of their gig(s).

I'd leave it the way it is. You may be tempted to order the same service 5 years from now and forgot all about the person who did a shoddy job for you. Then you'll see your negative review, and it will all come back to memory.

Did you give the seller a chance to fix the problem before leaving a negative? Feedback is the very last part of the transaction - after nothing else can be done.

Too many people are too fast to leave negative feedback without giving the seller a chance to fix the problem.

I'm a seller on fiverr, I think the guy is trying to safe his reputation. I've had some instances when a customer leaves a negative feedback. I just apologies and state what the problem was in one sentence or two. That way any potential buyer would be able to judge better. It works for me but generally, negative feedback is bad for business, I'ld rather make sure my customer is Ok before hitting the delivery button.

    Definitely leave it!

I use Fiverr often and appreciate honest reviews. In fact I can't help feeling suspicious when someone has a 100% rating. I've hired lots of Fiverr gigs from sellers with a less than perfect rating.

Please leave it! For those of us who use Fiverr we rely on the bad reviews as much as the good reviews and paying for removal is bad. In fact, I think Fiverr would probably ban both of you for doing so it sounds like it could be against TOS but I'm not sure.

You are right travlinguy. I order a gig with a seller for YouTube views and comments for a Video click. After a few days I receive email from Youtube for that click. Please observe the following:

Regarding your account: Video Loops Background
This following video was found in Violation of TOU #4 Section H:

Notwithstanding the foregoing, YouTube grants the operators of public search engines permission to use spiders to copy materials from the site for the sole purpose of and solely to the extent necessary for creating publicly available searchable indices of the materials, but not caches or archives of such materials. Violation of the policy above has resulted in the removal and reupload of your video(s). Additional account violations of Terms of Use #4 Section H will result in account suspension. I"m going to state right here that this has nothing to do with the fiverr seller. You ordered fake views and got busted by Google. Google owns Youtube and they have fixed their algorithm so that anybody using fake reviews and views is going to get caught easily.

The fiverr guy gave you what you wanted, what *YOU* didn't know was that such a deception was going to easily be found out and you were going to be penalized by Google. I would go back and remove the bad review because the fiverr guy gave you what you ordered, unfortunately what you ordered is against the TOS of Youtube. The penalization from Youtube is your fault not the fiverr guy.

Sorry to say but why on earth would you expect Real Visitors from $5 gig? (in fact $4 gig after fiverr remove their commission of $1)
As a internet marketer you should know whether you can even buy real visitors for $5.. if people could buy real traffic for $5, then everyone in the internet marketing would be a millionaire.

Recently I have had numerous bad Fiverr sellers and all will cancel the fiverr gig as negative reviews affect how much business they get. It is better for them to lost $5 than to have a negative review.

That said, even though you may have already left a negative review, if the seller cancels it, the negative review will disappear and you'll get your money back.

Well, if you leave the feedback, you essentially paid $5 to leave negative feedback. Leaving a review completes the order and it doesn't leave a way for the seller to refund you.

Studies show that some negative feedback actually helps business. People are subconsciously suspicious if every single customer experience is 100 percent positive. They know it is unlikely. You may have had that feeling when you see an Amazon book with 40 5-star ratings 1 week after it is published, and no 4-star or lower ratings.

The key is the owner/seller must answer negative feedback with explanations or even thanks, and show how they have addressed the comments. This has shown to drive higher sales than pure positive feedback.

You should leave it. He can always state in a reply why he feels your negative feedback is undeserved. Both comments are public. The system is fair in that regard, unless sellers can no longer give a reply (it's been awhile since I was active on Fiverr as a seller). If you feel he deserves a negative, by all means let er rip!

To me that falls in the gray zone... I would leave it if what he did was blatantly stupid, but for 5 bucks what do you expect...

I don't really see it being completely wrong asking you to remove negative feedback for refund. Many people and companies do this type of thing to get good reviews.

Even on WF you have people who coach people for perfect reviews.

Heck, I laugh all the time when I am browsing WSO's and the creators ask for positive feedback for a copy of their programs. To me that is gray area...

I can always tell the fake reviews by the phrase "I recently had the privilege to read ___"

To me fiverr reviews are going to be somewhat inflated anyway...

I personally spend $100's on fiverr and only gave maybe 2 bad reviews and only because it was horrible service, other than that I wouldn't expect the world for 5 bucks.

So basically, fiverr is good for outsourcing anything under the sun for 5 bucks. I see some of you come forward to defend their reputation as a fiverr's seller. I have no doubt they are what they said.

    Lessons learned:
    1. Positive feedback or 4-5 stars does not means so much.
    2. All fiverr's traffic sellers are BS.
    3. Doing business is just a game. You win when you know how to play the game.

I would not take down my negative review for $5. If you expected something that far exceeds the price of $5, I would consider changing the review. If the seller promised X and you received something so horrible that you wouldn't advise it to your worst enemy, eat the $5 and let other buyers know the service was not up to your standards.

I have had fiverr sellers do this after I leave negative feedback too, but fiverr changed their policy and if a seller gives you a refund the negative feedback stays.

There are so many Threads in WF itself where it is clearly mentioned by many posters that Fiverr is not at all good for Traffic or view related Gigs..

Fiverr is best for graphic designs and those sort of things.

Those who are featured in home page of Fiverr are real gems. There are some whiteboard gigs, lots of illustrators, lots of video actors, lots of native english speaking content writers etc etc.

Personally it would all depend on how professional the seller was. If the seller was professional, courteous, and actually cared then that might be a good deal. However if the seller was just trying to cover up a lousy service then I would do the community justice and leave it.

Why you gave him negative feedback? Was he wrong? if he did wrong, you can discuss with him again & again till your 100% satisfaction. When he refuse you to do anything more, then you can give me negative feedback. I think now you should negotiate with him.

I think if a seller offers to correct the issue, either by fixing it or offer refund, then I don't see the problem removing the negative feedback.
Misunderstandings happens and I think it's just silly to hold a grudge over something petty like $5 and possible mess up their business. It says more about you than the seller...

I agree with this statement, their is another issue that can evolve, that is buyers holding sellers ransom in order for not giving negative feedback.

Making them do the gig again or extra work.

      Just my 2 cents,

Funny you should mention this....I was looking for a quick logo for a site of mine and not onlyw as it horrible, it was late. I try not to be too hardcore, i mean hell it's 5 bucks....

But it was something I could have done on a free website. So I gave a negative response and then I received an email:

"HI can I change this to cancel please, I am very sick and live in India and this is my only means of pay"

I don't know if I should be impressed with the balls of saying that, feel bad, or be disgusted that you are using an excuse like that....

Maybe a little of all 3....

Was he a good communicator? If he was, then the job should have been completed to your liking.

If he did not communicate well, and that's the reason you couldn't get the job done to spec - then I wouldn't agree to remove it.

It's actually a common business practice in many situations where seller feedback is displayed. Some beauty salons for example will offer a 15% discount on the next appointment if the buyer leaves positive feedback on Yelp or other local directories (not that I visit beauty salons).

IMO the seller didn't do anything wrong. You did.

Negative reviews can brake your business however if you believe that the seller was dishonest and would probably go on to cheat someone else then leave it as it is. If you think that it was a simple mistake that the seller would learn from and try to prevent then you can get the refund first then remove the review.
