Best book on marketing you ever read?

There are so many books but for me personally one of the best books I've read which is not so much about marketing, but more having a successful mindset as a marketer, is called: The Millionaire Fastlane by MJ DeMarco

I will recommend you a book that is not marketing but sales. Why? Because to understand the marketing portion you need to understand the sales part. If you do that IM would be piece of cake.

Easy. Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill. Old as the hills but still incredibly valuable and relevant (available for free all over the Internet).

Also, you can't go wrong with anything by Dan Kennedy, Jay Abraham, Rich Schefren, and Frank Kern, just to name a few.

As a newbie I have to say "Think and grow rich" certainly inspired me on the mindset front, but I have to say I owe a lot to material by the late Jim Rohn.
I know it's more listening material than reading, but I agree with earlier comments that lots of you guys absolutely know the marketing stuff, but at times when we are surrounded by lots of negativity, we need a bit of a mental boost and you can't beat J.Rohn with his unique approach to a more successful life.

it all depends on the kind of marketing you want to venture into. that will really explain the kind of books you can read. this is simply because there are so many marketing books out there and at the end of the day you may not get anything out of it. have reads so many but nothing seems out of it. there are affilitate marketing, social sites, and the likes that you can go there and market.

It's very much at the macro level and not so much about marketing, but I think The Paradox of Choice is applicable to marketing. I realize that too often we made the decision process too complex for our customers. There's a balancing line between offering choice and enticing people into analysis paralysis. There's some interesting stats to be learned from this including the cases where increased product variations reduced sales.

Very good threat by the way. I'm bookmarking this. It comes along just as I'm looking for an authoritative social media marketing/LinkedIn book.

I know I'm going on about my favourite speaker Jim Rohn, but recently I started listening to his CD recordings during the 30-40 drive to work and it sure beats the radio and gives me a good boost for the day. It just always seems to be a much better use of time, rather than simply sat waiting for the traffic to move.

The book that changed my view of marketing the most was The Boron Letters by Gary Halbert, but I learned most of what I know about marketing from Dan Kennedy's no B.S. Book series and his Ultimate Sales Letter book.

Anyway, I agree with all the other warriors above me about Jay Abraham, I learned a lot from him too.

There's so many good reads out there and so little time to read it all.

Perhaps the most influential book that helped set the tone of my own offline/online marketing paradigm more than 20 years ago is "The Unabashed Self-Promoter's Guide", by Dr. Jeffrey Lant. It's far more practical than much of the "positive thinking" classics mentioned in this thread, although the right mindset is fundamentally essential for success. The author details how to effectively exploit the media (both offline and online) for widely targeted publicity and branding.

The E-Myth books by Michael E. Gerber are very good. Not specifically
directed to marketing... more focused on how to run a business successfully

There are so many good books out there, but the one that really changed everything for me is The 12-Month Millionaire by Vincent James.

Unfortunately, it's nearly impossible to find a copy.
