I have bought solo ads in the past, but I found that they didn't convert terribly well.

I would love hear from others regarding solo ads. Are sthey still an effective ways to build a list quickly?

Well of course, solo ads is the best way to build list.
To get good conversion from solo ads, you need to find the good seller.
Don't buy solo ads from just anyone. (And certainly Not on fiverr)

You might consider Directory Of Ezines by Charlie Page.

Can't remember the link as the old one is no longer in use.

You might want to Google it.

They can be effective still, but it depends on what offer you are promoting, how your squeeze page is structured and what your end goal is. Short and stupid simple looking squeeze pages tend to work best as far as getting the visitor to opt in. Then if you are promoting an offer as your thank you page, I have found low ticket works best and free trials. If you are wanting to eventually become a solo ad seller yourself, then buying solo ads is obviously going to work well becuase solo ad sellers buy from other solo ad sellers. Also, another great way to monetize is Pay Per Lead offers. When promoting these as your thank you page and in your followup, you are giving freebie seekers exactly what they want and you are getting paid every time they opt into that PPL offer.

This is a question I have been asking myself too. I have had a few very poor experiences with solo ads. I have looked into it and learned a bit about how to find honest solo ad sellers who provide a worthwhile service. These are the main points to check:
    1. Will the email be sent to buyers as well as prospects?
    2. What is the seller's list mainly interested in? Will your product be a good fit?
    3. Will the traffic be mostly from Top Tier Countries e.g. USA, UK, Canada , Australia?
    4. How many times do they email their list per day (= is their list exhausted from too many) ?
    5. Ensure they use your swipe? Some apparently just send out a very general email, unrelated to you specific offer.

I plan to have another go at solo ads with these points in mind. I'll definitely start small just to test-don't want to waste any more money!

I'd be interested too to hear about other people's experiences.

Yes they are extremely effective if you do it right. That being said, you should join the Facebook group Solo Ads Testimonials, this will help you locate vendors with good traffic. Always test the vendor with a small purchase first. Once you find several trustworthy people that have a good list to work with and you are getting results from those people's list, then you will simply scale up.

Buying solo ads is still the most effective way to build a list fast. Of course, you need a great squeeze page with a conversion rate of at least 40%, and you have to test many solo ad seller to achieve the best results. Solo ads are expensive, but they are worth it.

There's several good points on this thread already. Here's my take though...

    1. Solo ads really are only effective if the list is good quality. BUT the good thing about solo's is that those on the list have already demonstrated that they are willing to sign up to a list. This is good.

    2. You should be looking for a list that has a high open rate. This speaks to the quality of the traffic. Ask for a recent screen grab (Yeah! I know this isn't foolproof!) from the vendors email program to check the open rate.

    3. I always sign up to the target list months before to check the pattern of emails. I have had several list owners that told me they only send out 1 solo per week BUT I've been receiving almost daily solos from them.

    4. Always run solos to a squeeze page for a free offer. Then you can follow up thereafter.

    5. Make sure your free offer is a good fit for the list. e.g. don't send a small business list to a "make money online" offer.

    Hope this helps some. :-)

Oh no here we go again.

Ok think of this. The average affiliate gets about $2 per click EPC (earnings per click) when they mail out to a affiliate offer.

The average solo ad seller gets about $0.65 EPC when they run a solo ad.

Why would a person with a list choose to send out a low paying solo ad when they could send out for a much higher paying affiliate promo?

Answer is simple: Because the people they send solo ads to are NOT buyers. They are people looking for free stuff only.

So will solo ads build your list? Sure will. Will that list ever buy your paid products? Probably not. Do you want to pay $0.65 per click to build a list of people that dont buy things? Well you should not want to.

In summery: Solo Ads is how people monetize their non profitable lists. Why would anyone want to buy non profitable leads and emails of non buyers? They wouldn't.

Brutecky does make an excellent point. I bought a product from a warrior who is supposedly a solo ad king.

I ended up being on a list and he truly is a solo ad king... since I keep receiving emails from him that are solo ads for other people. So much so for respecting your customers

          Solo Ads work, PERIOD!
It all comes down to testing, testing, testing.

Test your offer, squeeze page elements, such as headlines, call to actions, etc. Also test new solo ad vendors as well.

I even came out with a product, The Funnel Cash Frenzy, here on the WF. That delves more into this topic.

All in all I use solo ads on a daily basis to feed the list fire

I know exactly who you mean, I did the same and get 4-6 emails per day off them, sick of opting out and still seem to be getting more and more.

Its a joke and totally goes against building a relationship and looking after the leads and customers, hopefully Mr Solo King ends up on the scrap heap with the rest of the do anything for money marketers.

That is the problem with solos, the leads end up being sick of being spammed rubbish all the time and so ended up not even opening them.

I have used them though and they were effective when I started in 2008, not done them for a long time, but I am sure you can make them work with the right offer, lead capture then upsell, although these days I don't think you can look further than Facebook ads for value and targeting and you know the lead is exactly what you paid for.

Not quite. A well crafted funnel and follow up sequence is all that's needed to make some of those leads buyers.

They simply haven't been presented with the right offer yet.

For every industry there will be the people who want all the shortcuts possible to make some $$. Those people in the solo ad-sphere are the ones who don't have a proper funnel, have nothing of value to offer their list, and have to pimp out their lists for 30 - 35 cents a click to make a sale.

The people who know what the heck they're doing have a solid backend sequence and a very strong funnel to pull out those buyers in the crowd.

Everyone that I've spoken to who complains that solo ads don't work hasn't worked on their funnel very much. And I've seen some pretty horrible funnels that the marketer thought would be fine lol

Sadly a lot of the solo ad industry is the low end have-no-idea-what-the-heck-they're-doing type of marketer who complains about not being able to sell their solos (i wonder why  lol) and that they lose money with each solo ad they buy.

Just don't be one of these "low effort = low result" types of people.

As I have said. If the emails on a solo ad are good then why does the owner of the list not just mail affiliate offers? You will notice that no one who promotes solo ads can ever answer that. Because there is no answer. Oh and I not new. Been making my living online for over 5 years my friend.

The better marketers do a bit of both. Not sure why there's a problem understanding this. Of course the less experienced marketers will have lists that are less responsive; they don't have the skill or the intent to keep their lists responsive (churn and burn business model).

List responsiveness comes from treating those subscribers correctly ie. giving them value, tons of free content (not just ebooks) and getting to know them on a more intimate level.

I could really care less about the people who sell solos because that's the only way they can get anything out of their lists. They're obviously not tuned in to the real potential of their email list.

Everyone has their own opinions and experiences when it comes to building your list with Solo Ads.

If you do your research properly and have a good funnel, they can work extremely well. However, if all comes down to the solo seller and the quality of his/her list. Bearing in mind that most of these lists are built from buying or doing ad swaps and in a lot of cases these lists are full of freebie seakers and the quality of these leads is questionable.

Therefore when building your list with Solo Ads, you will get some good results, but then you will get some poor results - even from reputable solo sellers. You just have to look at the average cost you are spending to get a subscriber.

As an alternative to Solo Ads, if you can find a lead generation supplier and pay a fixed amount for a lead, then you know exactly how much the lead is going to cost you.

Yes, there is no faster way to build your list than solo ads.

Unless of course, you pay for a solo ad that gets sent out 3 weeks down the road.

Solo ads are also extremely profitable (and no, not just for the seller)...

However it is imperative that you have a high converting funnel

    Hi,

If you are just going to throw money at any Solo Ad seller then you could be
    in for a rough ride.

It's far better to ask the Solo Ad seller as many questions as you can prior to
ordering to see whether their list has people on there who are actively looking
for what you have to offer.

    MORE TARGETED THE BETTER.

Of course your offer has to convert well too.

And of course you should have a BACK END funnel set in place or at
least know that you can at least break even or make a profit for every lead
    that enters your funnel.

Don't forget too that you can start doing Ad-Swaps and ClickBanking with
other marketers too once you have 300 - 500 people on your lists and you
can at least exchange offers with them.

This can speed up the process of getting a decent sized list that you can work
with and grow it to greater numbers by doing such deals with other marketers.

YOU MUST always be doing whatever you can to keep adding leads into
    your funnel.

    EVERY SINGLE DAY!

This should become a HABIT in your marketing as this is what will take
your incomes to the next level.

So Solo Ads are great but not the only way to build a list of course.

But I guess you already knew that right.

That's a very hard question to answer, because there's so many variables involved...

But if there's only an option to answer yes or no, i would say YES

People who don't make money from solo ads are usually the people who don't set up their funnel correctly. For starters, if you plan to sell to your list, at least take the time to create a free report that provides value. Some people give away a crappy PLR report and then expect to make sales down the road

My entire business is built with solo ads, I personally make a ton of money with them.

OF course just like anything there is a right and a wrong way to do them, and it cost me a few thousand dollars in testing to learn how to profit with them.

It depends on a lot of variables but having a good solo broker

Solo ads rock!!! You need to learn how to find good solo ads

Obviously, not every solo ad vendor will provide you with a great list that will get you laser targeted leads. Given your goal is to build your list be sure to ask the solo ad vendor the right questions.

So when reaching out to a solo ad vendor you want to ask him the following:

    1) Which countries is his list more or less made up of - be sure it targets English speaking countries as you want your readers to understand what you are promoting to them
    2) Do they use a ''rotator'', if they do, I would stay clear away from them
    3) Which "niche" is their list in to make sure that they will be responsive to what you are offering (common sense right? )

Now let's say we set our solo ad campaign, how are we going to be sure we had a great campaign at the end of the day? Ask yourself, how many opt-ins/ leads did I get? If you got over 25% opt-ins then I would say that is a good number even if you didn't get any sales. Remember that the money is in the back end as you will be e-mailing your list everyday and building that relationship with them, you are going to make money with that list in the future even if you are crappy at e-mail marketing. With this said, if you had a bad experience with a solo ad make sure you don't give up, keep testing and testing until you see your list grow and conversions start to take place!

Now here are some places you can find solo ad vendors provided you are in the Make Money Online Niche:

    Warrior Forum -- Classified Ads
    Safe Swaps

    Facebook Groups:
    Solo Ad Providers: https://www.facebook.com/groups/sawwpsolos/
Solo Ads and Ad Swaps: https://www.facebook.com/groups/soloads/

If you are not in the make money online niche just do a Google search and do some research

This is SUCH a controversial question, and you will most likely received mixed answers.

At the end of the day, it depends on what your end goal is. You absolutely cannot go into buying solo ads without an entire game plan. You need to have your offers planned out, link rotators in place, follow ups ready to go, offers ready to promote and everything perfect.

I think a lot of people go into it believing that the bigger the list they build, the more money they MUST be able to make. And that's hardly true at all, at least in my opinion. It's really crucial that you know what type of audience you want to build as your list, and the topics you know the most about.

For instance, don't build a list having them opt in to get a report on how to make $400 in 2 days running Teespring campaigns - and then start promoting PLR products and software / Wordpress plugins to them. That was one of the really silly mistakes I made when I first got into it. I thought if I built a list, I could promote anything I'd like.

You also need to do a lot of investigation into each solo ad vendor that you purchase clicks from. I'd recommend snagging the reports that Igor Kheifets has put together. They outline the questions you need to ask the vendor, and how you should prepare yourself before ordering some clicks to your squeeze page.

Most of all though, like I mentioned about - you need to know what audience you're going to target. And your goal should be trying to convert as many of the new leads into buyers from the very start using a great sales funnel, all the way through the follow up sequence. It takes a lot of testing, a lot of planning, and a lot of patience.

But once you get it right - you can really profit from solo ads if you know what you're doing and again, like I've said a ton of times now, where you want to end up.

There's also the concept of building a buyers list by doing your own product launches but that's an entire different topic... haha

      What?

      Why make it so complex.

You don't need some mega man routine planned out

      10 months in advance.

      Here is what you do:

Buy a solo ad from a vendor with respected feedback in your niche.

You give away a free gift of value on Landing page to get opt ins.

You give cool stuff to help people online.

You sell them your stuff or promote good stuff to them.

      End.

Solo ads will remain a viable way of building your list as long as what you're offering is relevant.

It's one of the most targeted forms of advertising you'll find for your business. The trick is finding someone who is reputable. A quick Google search isn't difficult to accomplish that.

Truthfully, if you can find someone who is reputable and can deliver the clicks, solo ads can be the one tactic that can propel your business. Like anything, do your homework and know what/who you're dealing with.

    Good luck.

Just seen this thread and though i would throw my 2 cents.

I started building my list a few months ago and since day 1 I used solo traffic as my main traffic source. It has converted amazingly for me and i have basically been building my list for free, this is due to my high converting funnel.

You need to remember that quality matters so make sure you buy from people with good reputation, price will probably be much higher than average, but its worth it.

And of course your funnel, this is the key to succeeding with solo ads, well really no matter what traffic you use, a good funnel is a must.

But yes solo ads are and will be worth it for a long time to come, as long as you know what you are doing and have some cash to spend on testing.

I haven't tried using solo ads yet. Got my instincts about using them. Heard they some do work, some doesn't work. You just got to try and try to see which method works best for you. If solo ads doesn't work for you, then you just got to move one the next plan till you finally find something that's works and maybe stick to it.

Depends on the open rate. For every one of these:

You might get FIVE or more underperforming campaigns.

At the end of the day, it's all about ROI. How much money did you make for every $1 you invested? Are you happy with it? That is the bottom line.

Solo ads did not work for me. It was hard to ensure that the products or promotion would match.

That's the problem with Solo ads. You have to be prepared to lose some money before you hit gold. I personally prefer paid ads.

I'm glad the question was asked and answered a multitude of ways. Like anything else, it's clear to me that you just can't jump into using solo ads without getting a good picture, somewhat fleshed here. Here's my takeaway: I'm doing solo ads because my coach/mentor suggested it and is using them, and is very very successful. We are advised to research the vendors to check on their reliability, over-delivery, etc. In addition, I would ask some of these questions articulated above: 1) how the list was built so I know whether the niche fits mine; 2) how often ads are sent out; 3) how often a list is "refreshed" (need to check into that more); 4) whether there are better days to send out the ads, days away from the weekends are better (?); 5) whether participants in the same program I'm in have used these ads, so whether or not the list has been exposed or over-exposed to my material. Thank you all for my education.

Any traffic source is 'worth' it as long as your pulling a profit.

Test each and see your results. May be some tweaking necessary at first, but once you have a winner you roll it out.

The short answer is yes. Like any traffic source you have to test to find out for sure. Asking IM people on a forum if a particular method works/still works is not going to get you anywhere.

With so many variables there is no way of predicting the success of any campaign.

Yes they work and no they don't work... because it depends on several other factors such as how the list was built... What niche? Is it a bunch of freebie seekers? or is it a list of people who made a purchase? Who owns the list, how often do they mail to it, how good of a relationship does the list owner have with the people on their list.

And you must have a great irresistible offer and a sales funnel that converts. So before buying solo ads, first invest in other targeted traffic like banner or text ads... use the headline to target your audience and somewhat pre qualify the traffic so only those in your market will click on the ad.

Then test everything in your sales funnel and tweak it until it converts well.

Once you have something that converts.... then start testing solo ads.

Once you have an offer that converts don't tell anyone else about it because you will simply scale things up with purchasing more traffic... it's all comes down to numbers (traffic and conversions) and once you have that working for you... why would you share it with the rest of the world?

Well you would only want to share it if the people who use your funnel are also your affiliates... but you will want to take steps to prevent others from duplicating your funnel on their own and cutting you out of the picture.

A lot of Solo Ad sellers can't make money mailing their own offers so they resort to selling clicks for a guaranteed income... they get paid for every click they send you, but it's up to you to have a landing page that gets the opt-in plus a sales funnel than converts... if the seller already had that... chances are they won't let you in on it unless your duplicating it will add to their bottom line.

    Cheers,
    SteveSki

Solo ads rock if you do it right!! You need the right seller and the right funnel along with the right products. I bought a 100 click solo ad Friday night for $50 and made $300 in residual monthly income. Not bad. I've just reordered from same seller and bought 1,000 clicks this time to scale up. So, with the right formula, solo ads are a great way to earn but like anything else... If you don't have things in order, you may waste your money.

    Hi people,

what are these ad-swaps? Is that something like linkchange; I read your email-you read my email.....?

I often hear in this topic; "solo ads are great, when you have the right seller and the right funnel"....
But what is the right seller and what is the right email funnel?

How often do you send out mails to your list? 3 times a week, 2 times a week, daily?

    best wishes

Making good sales is about sending your offer to targeted people who are really intereseted.
If you buy solo ads without any target than it won't work well. Don't buy solo ads for anyone.

First check which targeted people are opt-in for the list. What they are looking for? Are they looking for the thing you promote or same niche?

If, yes. Than go ahead with the list. This will get you good CTR and sales.

    They're still worth it.
How many times did you buy solos?
You're going to buy solos with lists which are more or less responsive to your offer.
One thing you can do is ask the solos seller if your offer is suitable for his list.
For sure you'll have to buy multiple solos to get a feel for whose list is responsive to your offer.
I definitely won't give up on solos

    All the best!

yes they are still effective. i think you should consider changing who you are buying your solo ads from. buy from 2 or 3 persons and track your conversion rate.

I think they are certainly worth it. But the quality varies a lot. There are plenty of scammers out there looking to send you rubbish if they can get away with it.
Even on Safe Swaps I have experienced bad traffic from sellers with great feedback. When I contacted them they just offered me a refund.
When you buy from a solo ad seller you need to look at metrics very carefully. Opt ins are important but so is the email open rate. I find it strange how you can have 40 opt ins yet the first email you send out no one has opened. I think feedback is still the best way to judge a good solo seller, but feedback mixed with getting out there and trying a few different sources and see what happens is the only way to succeed.

  • Yes solo ads are worth it if they convert good enough to make your offer profitable and no they are not worth it if they don't.

Before buying solo , try to buy it from quality solo seller and negotiate with him to send click from buyer list.
Working on funnel is also effective to make your solo campaign profitable.
