What do you guys recommend to use for editing pictures other than Adobe Photoshop?

    You should try Gimp.

    You can surely use it for image retouching and editing, free-form drawing, resizing, cropping, photo-montages, converting between different image formats, and more specialized tasks.

    The best thing about it is that, it's FREE.

    Photoshop would be my number one choice. A close second would be Serif PhotoPlus. You can get a free version from here: Free Photo Editing Software - PhotoPlus Starter Edition from Serif (not an affiliate link) but it's worth getting the paid-for version. It's a lot cheaper than Photoshop .

    A couple of other options are Gimp GIMP - The GNU Image Manipulation Program a free option. I personally use Paint Shop Pro when not using Photoshop.

    I would go with everyone on here GIMP is a god free solution but the picture quality isn't as nice as photo shop.

    There is adobe cc which give you access to photoshop and lightroom. They do run a 30 day free trial and it cost about $20 a month.

    If your serious about editing pictures and having quality to back it up may want to go with photoshop

    Gimp is the best other option. I must say Adobe Photoshop is more advanced but if you don't have the $$ to buy it then go for Gimp. Once you get the hang of it, you will surely love it. Trust me.

    I use Adobe Fireworks, don't know why but its always easy to do most of the tasks. And works great with Illustrator.

    Somehow I'm not comfortable using Gimp. Its Pixlr for me too. I also use MS Paint a lot for small stuff. It doesn't give you a lot of options, but its definitely fast and can help you get things done in a jiffy.

    GIMP. Honestly, it's getting better and is good enough for most of my photo editing needs. I still have Photoshop but GIMP is free, which is always good.

    for complex editing and masking and working with layers photoshop is best one.
