Hello warriors,

I had months that I have earned more than $1000 per month doing mobile websites for warriors.

I can do desktop websites as well, mobile websites and graphics.

What steps do you think I should take to keep this kind of earning consistent?

Regards, Marian

  • Go to fiverr, freelancer, getacoder..Lots of work..Get a site and promote..what else you want?
  • Upsells are the key
  • Do you offer your services in the Warriors For Hire section?

I can't advise about Fiverr as I have never used it, but it seems to be a site for cheap and quick not for quality designs.
    • [ 1 ] Thanks
  • Have you tried selling websites offline?

    • I would post an ad here in the warriorforum classified ads section.

First give up ome review copies to get some honest reviews and then post your ad and you'll definately get orders.

      Good luck!
  • Build a website, display your services right, then set up some lead capture pages to do with each one using an educational giveaway as to why your clients need your services.

You do need to make the giveaway seem like an essential item for the leads to opt in for in first place though so it needs value and is not just a sales pitch.

    Example

Selling web design, free educational giveaway "How to get your business to reach more customers".
You then show them facts about businesses online reaching more people selling them on the idea they need a website. From here You outline some of the steps, the basics, domain name, hosting site design and then at end pitch the done for them service.

This way you educated them, even if they don't buy they left with some value and a good impression.

You also may choose to leave the service pitch off and just have a apply for a consultation to help them get started pitch, offering personalised advice of which you then sell your services that suit them from the consultation, you can do these online or in person, or even over the phone.

To get traffic use paid ads like Facebook as they can be highly targeted and you will get far better value for money, meaning better returns.

For those that don't buy then you still have their email address to market and educate to further so you can generate sales in the long term.
  • Go to Elance and do freelance work. When I was freelancing (programming not design) I was earning on average $1500 per week $6K per month. There is lots of work there if your good, take it seriously and work hard.
    • [ 2 ] Thanks
  • Where I live (Australia), web designers get $1,500 for installing Wordpress, and uploading a Theme.

I'm not a web designer, but I definitely can design websites & Wordpress themes from scratch, and to see poofter Aussies get $1,500 just for installing a Wordpress theme makes me sick.

I've heard of people charging $7,300 for installing a $55 Wordpress theme by cold calling businesses. What has this world come to?
  • I think making money by promoting things is easier than designing for others.
  • Go out and offer your knowledge to businesses in your area.

    How's about Freelancer.com?

Lot's of other Freelancer sites out there, just look out.

You also could try out sites like 99desings.com but be carefully about your time management, I wasted a bunch of time there.

Put your portfolio together from the sites you did and setup your own site to showcase what you can do.

Some guy's make good money in the WSO section with unique WP designs.

Add other services you can do to the main offers and try to get addon sales.

  • Post ads on CL with an image stating your fees.. You'll have decent response there with a focused ad and CTA.

Further, if you're comfortable with it, schedule 1 hour per day (minimum) of cold calling local businesses. That should create a stable flow of new business (worth more than 1k).

    Good luck!

  • Forget about doing designing work on Fiverr, freelancer, etc... Don't work for others.

Instead translate your knowledge into your own PRODUCT, that you control and sell. Teach people how to do what you do. Make a PDF, video course, software, walk-through guide, etc.

Upsell it with a one hour design consultation and revision.

Upsell that with design coaching, where you help others learn the craft of designing.

Build a list of people interested in designing and offer the services above and related services.

This will be much more effective than just trading your time for money all the time for the low prices that people pay on fiverr and the freelance sites.

This is the way to go. Best of luck and PM me if you have any questions.

    • I have to agree and at the same time disagree with this post.

      1) Your totally correct that its always better to work for yourself.

      2) You did forget though that its also a good idea to have some decent cash reserve before you try to work for yourself, and freelance work can provide this.

      3) Your also mistaken many people do not pay low prices on freelance sites. I billed out at $75 per hour and got plenty of work at this rate. (though I did have to work for less at first to build a reputation)
  • Build a portfolio of your websites, if you do not have any working website build few to show people your skills, currently you should build be doing (responsive templates for) wordpress, magento, joomla.
There is also a rising trend of 1 page websites, check them out. Also try to join themeforest and templatemonster, as the above softwares templates cost $40 to $60 per installation/user. They will provide great exposure to your sales. As posted above you can provide support of installation of these software to the customers. To get more you can also provide hosting facility to them, a good server may cost from $350 to $400 or can use VPS under $100.
    PS.
I think you should get few peoples along with you to get better approach on your business model.
  • I'd run a blog and website MA. Show off your wares. Make friends with other top designers. Prosper. Network like a champ and hit the above mentioned sites to sell your wares. Keep working on your skills, hone your craft and you'll be well on your way.
  • Best way to start for me was to offer website design on craiglist
also ready add by business on CL asking for web/design jobs and CALL them, not email but call them and tell them that you will do the best job they can have at the best price with a 100% customers satisfaction!

I had like 2-3K / month doing that, very easy and creative job.

    Success and wealth to you.
  • Keep leverage it! Fiverr, freelancer, and elance. You can come out WSO for that! to earn some side income for you!
  • Thanks everyone for all of your advice
  • I'm assuming you already have a good set of client list. So, give freelance sites a shot (Elance, Guru, Freelancer) and see if it works well for you and your time. If it doesn't work well with you like it did to me, focus your efforts on marketing your services.

Create your own site and focus on winning clients within your area through emails, direct mails, advertisements and cold-calling like JGirl said.

You can also market your website by targeting the right audience. If you want to become a successful designer, you should never look down on writing. You can guest post on design blogs flocked by managers, directors, and business owners and essentially win clients there.

You can also try something I recently learned from Gregory Ciotti called the "remora" effect. It's basically partnering up with another freelancer (programmer, designer, writer) or agency to help you out.
  • Besides offering your services on Fiverr, oDesk and other freelancing sites, you should set up a WordPress blog and showcase your work. A portfolio site will help you build credibility and trust. Additionally, you'll have full control over your content.
  • keep promoting. Spend 1 hour a day doing promotion, I think will keep you on the right track
  • Promote yourself on these places and your work list will never run dry: IM forums (like here!), Fiverr (but charge more than a Fiverr!), Freelancer/Rent-a-coder.

The warriors here have given you great advice, just make sure you act on it.

Build a portfolio - write up your prices - promote your services.

    Peace,
    Gh0zt
  • Use Envato --> themeforest.net or codecanyon.net
People make tons of money there if you actually offer something useful.. Find a niche and work on it. Combine your efforts with a good coder and release a nice wordpress theme or plugin, these sell very well.
  • Personally, I wouldn't even worry about eLance, oDesk, Fiverr, Freelancer and others.

If you can write a compelling sales thread here on the Warrior Forum, get reviews (text *and* video reviews), you will see a lot of business come in.

The trouble with marketplaces outside of the Warrior Forum is that you can't really market yourself properly. Here on Warrior Forum you can:

    - Write your own sales copy
    - Establish your expertise and authority
    - Brand yourself (personal branding)
    - Post reviews directly into your sales thread
    - Link to your service in your signature
    - Go around the forum contributing value and get clicks through to your service
    - Continually raise your prices as your clientele increases

I've built 3 successful services right on the Warrior Forum. Most people just don't go the extra mile to write really good sales copy, test a few different ideas. They'd rather just plaster an ad up on Fiverr or a profile on eLance/oDesk and wait for people to hire *them*. You've got to hire yourself.
