Open Letter To New Warriors

Note: Of late, we've had a large number of new members joining the Warrior Forum. With the economy in the state it's in and many losing jobs right now, it's easy to see why many want to start making money online. But, there are numerous pitfalls - so this letter.

Dear New Warrior

If you've come here to become an Internet marketer, you've found the right place. This forum is frequented by a number of very successful Internet marketers, many of whom started right here. The Warrior Forum can be an incubator for new marketers, with access to and help from senior Warriors who can provide a large wealth of Internet marketing knowledge.

However, coming into the Warrior Forum without any guidance can be as dangerous as heading off on a trek through the mountains without a trail map. It's far too easy to be dazzled and led astray.

Don't Be Dazzled & Led Astray

First, there's all the talk of big money being made in a very short time. Seeing senior Warriors talk about making over $10,000 a month - and seemingly while doing very little - can give you the false impression that Internet marketing is a route to quick & lazy riches. A deadly misconception that leaves many new Warriors frustrated and broke. What you need to understand is that senior Warriors who are generating large incomes from the Internet did not attain such a level overnight - they worked hard to build a good, solid business. It still takes work!

Second, it's easy to be led astray by all the "latest & greatest" programs and "secret tactics" that you'll see being discussed. Sure, many are great programs and tactics, but only if you consistently apply them. If you merely jump from one idea to another - giving this one a try and then jumping to that one, without ever giving one a chance to bear fruit - you'll never make money with any of them. You need to select one and stick to it, without being distracted by the next "latest & greatest".

Most important is to use common sense here at the Warrior Forum. If it sounds too good to be true, it most likely is. Internet marketing is just another vehicle for marketing goods and services, it's not a magic bullet to fill your bank account while you lounge around in your bathrobe.

Don't Be Discouraged

You'll also see a lot of threads started by frustrated Warriors who haven't been able to make much money online. They have come to the conclusion that the Internet dream is not for them, and they are ready to quit. Some are convinced that "gurus" have lied to them and they can't make any money with all the e-books, courses, and programs they have bought - just lots of their hard-earned cash down the drain.

The real problem is that they ran afoul of one or both of the things I discussed above. They were dazzled by all the "easy money" and thought they would soon be rich, without investing some sweat equity into building a business. They ran around gobbling up programs and WSOs, convinced that each one was the one that would "really make money". Unfortunately, they never gave any of these enough consistent effort to ever see a profit.

You Can Create A Fantastic Income

The truth is, there are many Warriors making a very impressive income from the Internet, and living life the way they want. But none of us successful marketers did this without some work. So, don't come here expecting instant riches, apply yourself consistently to building a real online business, and you will create a very good online income for yourself.

To your success,

Kevin Riley

  • Hello Kevin,

That was a great post. And you can bet your bottom dollar ---the way to internet riches is like everything else in the physical world---a lot of hard work and ofcourse intelligence and common sense.

That was honest and excellent advise especially to newbies.

    Thanks.

  • Kevin, great post.

Speaking from experience, boiling everything down, the bottom line is TAKE ACTION.

For good or bad, doing something is better than thinking or planning about doing something.
  • I agree that taking action is important. I would also add FOCUS. Too often people waste time chasing one "hot" thing after another. Focus on thing that you are good at doing and do that.

The other key to making money online is the same as making money offline -- create value. The beautiful thing about online marketing is that value can be created out of thin air simply by taking action and writing that post, article or ebook.

    • Thanks for this post Kevin, still in my noob status I appreciate what you have tried to get across to us so called newbies, I agree so many people can be misled with all the products being released & countless testimonials stating this person is better than the other etc etc.

Since coming to WF I have been enriched with a wealth of information for which my small yet busy design company has benefited from.

Once again kudo's for the letter!
    • Just curious, if you are a newbie, how do you know exactly WHAT you are "good" at?
      • [1] reply
  • Either you're gonna do it... or you aren't. Don't be that guy.
  • Wonderful post Kevin! The only thing I would add is this: build an Internet marketing business because you love Internet marketing and you love business. If you're in this to make money fast, not only will you probably be sorely disappointed, but you'll miss out on the joy that comes from the journey. The joy that comes from overcoming the inevitable challenges, the joy of growing as a marketer and as a person, the joy of making new friends, and the joy of accomplishing things you may never have thought you'd accomplish.

    • Excellent points Anna. I would also add: Love your Niche.

Success in anything be it business, sport, whatever, is always 90% Mind, 10% Application.

      Expect Success.

  • thank you all. that was a very encouraging letter.
  • Fantastic post Kevin! This post is definitely a great guide to new warriors coming in lately. Maybe it should be put up as a sticky? Thanks again!
  • Good inputs. Thanks, Kevin. I know that its hard work to be earning six figures every month. But as Anna said, if you love internet marketing, you won't give up easily.

All the best to us newbies.
  • Good post. Sometimes i work so long on my PC my eyes are getting red...i am not even kidding. No matter what "system" you buy or use...it will ALWAYS require work and consistency.
  • I just have to say that it was regularly visiting the Warrior Forum and seeing positive remarks that made me take action, and it's that that has brought me my first few sales.

I did buy a lot of stuff and read a lot, but coming here was how I got over the obstacles.
  • Hi Kevin,

I always enjoy reading your posts and this one is no different. Thanks for taking the time to impart your wisdom to fellow warriors. It is crucial to find a strategy and keep on "bulldozing through those barriers" (sage advice you have given me in the past).

Thank you (and this post should be a sticky!)

    Andrew
  • As a newbie 10 months old I can say that i have done evrything that Kevin has pointed out. Purchased untold WSO's jumped here there and everywhere looking for the HOLY GRAIL. Hence so far I have failed. BUT now i am just putting all my efforts into 1 thing, And will not buy anythinguntil until i have finished this project.
    • [1] reply
    • Good - everyone discovers this sooner or later.

Your Mind is the Holy Grail - use it well.
  • As a somewhat "new" warrior member I can say that honestly its all about taking action.

If you buy a product, FOLLOW THAT GUIDE FROM STEP 1 TO PROFIT. You may fail and lose money but it is a lesson learned.

You learn nothing going from product to product doing nothing, at least try each one all the way through.

Experience is the only reason I make money now, the mistakes I learned from have carved my path.

  • Great post Kevin, very positive and informative and not a "newbie bashing rant"!

I am fairly new to IM but have been in business a long time and realise that it takes time to build a business - there is no get rich quick system.

One of the things I have learnt is to do the research in an area that you are interested in and then ensure that there is a "hungry crowd" wanting what you have to offer. Then it takes a lot of work to produce something of value.

Thanks again Kevin this will help and inspire new people to the forum.

    Cheers Keith
  • The OP is very good advice.

One can make money on the internet. One can make money selling flowers in a shop. One can make money in a job or being a taxi driver.

The internet often seems more attractive because you can "do it from home" or work in your underwear etc...

However, and this isn't meant to be negative, some people are just not cut out to be able to make money on the internet. For some people, it isn't the way. It can sometimes be too technical, complicated or just seem so overwhelming.

Yes there are tools and shortcuts and all sorts of promises, but be honest with yourself. If you aren't willing to put in the work, the long hours and often many fruitless projects, then don't beat yourself up about it and find YOUR way to make a good income.

I hate to read about folk who have spent many months and even years and haven't made at least some income. That is very sad and sometimes it's best to cut your losses, or at the very least don't put all your eggs in one basket (the internet).

The internet is just one of MANY ways to make money and support your loved ones.

If you are going to give it a shot, make sure you are really tough with yourself about your time. Otherwise, months will go by and you will look back and see you have achieved nothing.

DON'T LET THAT HAPPEN TO YOU.

    Good luck either way.
    Sam
  • Great article Kevin and a timely reminder to the increasing new Warriors.

  • Kevin - great post - wonderful information!

I have been online for awhile now and I would add that perseverance and dedication have carried me through difficult periods. There were times that giving up would have been the easy thing to do - but I was determined to hang in there and I'm glad I did. Although I am still far from reaching my ultimate goals, looking back at where I started from it is easy to see that I have come a long way.

Like others have mentioned, sticking with something you are interested in does matter. I have tried my luck at various niches and techniques but the ones that I have had the most success with are the ones that I was interested in long before I began working online.

My advice for newcomers is to do a lot of self-examination early on. Consider what is important to you and what you like to do. Then work at building a business around that criteria. You will begin with an advantage because your business will be based on things that truly matter to you.
    • [1] reply
    • You have to work to make money. It's the same with the Internet also.

I agree completely with the people above who also said that you have to take action. However, I wish to extend the idea a little.

Take action - not just any action, but action that is not going to waste a lot of money or time if it dioesn't work.

Look at the results you get - look at what works and repeat it. Look at what doesn't work, examine why and change it. Put new actions into action, look at new results and so on.
  • Agree 100%.

Should be a sticky in all IM forums.

However, one of the problem is many well known and respected names in this industry
sell and promote "get rich doing nothing, no investment, instant success, guaranteed"
techniques, or use such statements in their sales letters.

So I'm not sure minds will change, as a rule seems to be "follow what successful people
do" (in this case: say to prospects no work involved, etc.)

Not sure too the same people teach their kids that they don't have to work to be
    successful in life...

    • A post like that should be required reading for all those who register for the WF ... before their registration is complete. It might help in the long run.

      Kudos to Kevin!
  • Kevin, nice to see senior members taking care of new users the right way.

Thanks for that, that's inspiring for all of us.
  • Kevin,

As always, a total class act. Everything you say here has been stated over and over and yet people seem to never take heed of the advice!

    Offer+ Buyer= Sale....just that simple

I like how you stated that the internet is just another vehicle for distributing goods b/c that is exactly what it is. I don't know why people think this venue is so easy and will make millions over night. I don't think I ever will.

I hope everyone who reads this realizes the truth in this message. This might be the very thing that starts you off on your career online.

Best wishes to all new and "experienced" warriors alike,

    Brad Spencer
  • Fantastic advice Kevin. When I first started I read everthing I could find on Internet Marketing. I bounced from idea to idea. Made a little here and there. Finally decided to follow your advice, I picked one area and stuck to it. Finally making a consistent income now. I can expand my focus later based on my prior experiences if I choose to!
    Thanks,

  • Yes Kevin YES !!!!!

Perfect post .. Perfect time !!

    Excellent, thankyou ...

If I may just add my little piece to this post in the hope that some newbies like myself read it and take something good from it .....

I class myself a newbie, I have tried to make money online for a couple of years, bought everything... failed badly.... lost a lot of cash ( A LOT !! )

Then about 8 months ago I paid for a good mentor.... Now .. ?

Ive made over $10,000 online ... Have a successful blog, have a good email list ..and just recently handed in my notice of resignation at my job to go full time online !!!

Now next month I have my first major launch where I will coach others to the level I am at now !

So I had to fail for a long time to get here now !!! I could have quit ... I could of just drifted into what some may call 'reality' and tried to work my way through a corporate career... In fact I think it may have been easier ... IN THE SHORT TERM !!

But what would you do if you knew at the end of your efforts you could be your own boss and become a full time internet marketer ??

Well I guess it all depends on how much you want that... Me I want it so bad so that is what I have work damn hard for.

As a total newbie I think a hard thing to over come is the realisation that you really can make money online ( And a lot of it ! )

I mean you always read about... Every guru's sales page shows you how much they make ... BIG BUCKS huh ?! Sure they do, so much so that you dont know whats real and whats trash !!

I can tell you this from coming this far... A lot of the big name marketers you know about really do make the money they show you .. BUT

It DID NOT start this way !! And sorry but it WILL NOT start this way for you either

You have to learn the system, work the system, and then and only then at the end of the tunnel you will begin to make money ... Slowly at first but just keep reapplying the system and it will grow !

I'll say this favourite quote again for you from my mentor ....

" Its not a get rich quick scheme ... It's a get rich forever system"

Hope that helps you, you really can do this !! Just dont expect it to be easy !!

You have to answer 1 question and YOU have to answer it in total honesty to yourself ...

    Do you want this ?

    Yes / No

Yes - Well great, it can be done !! Focus on learning the correct way to do things and just keep pushing forwards. You WILL have failures, everyone does ... Just learn from them and keep going forwards !

No - Well you have been honest with yourself. If you are sure then give it up or maybe just dont approach it for a career. Maybe learn it real slow as a hobbie, you never know you may change your mind and want to really go for it.

    Best wishes

    Dean

This is a business where if you stick to a good plan over an extended time you will do well.

  • Kevin, thank you, sincerely. Your letter makes such good sense and that is what I for one have to hold onto, is common sense. Sticking to one thing is hard when there are all these other things coming at you. Like trying to pick out the best candy-bar I'm just starting out but luckily, I saw what I was doing. I was not doing "anything" because I was too busy admiring all the cool ways to make the money. I had to decide and now, I am going to stick to it. I've been working just about 1 month, the article marketing and content for my homepage, backlinks. That is all I can do and still remain sane. If that method doesn't work(but I know it will)I will add something more to help it fly!

Thanks again for the post and I hope lots read it. I know I want that instant gratification and anything that is going to last will take hard work and paying attention to those that have gone before me
  • Two remarks from a newbie:

    1. Thanks to Kevin for the very useful, elegantly written article!
    2. "Veterans", please, show some good example while condescending to us... and do NOT quote a long article when you are posting a one-liner.

    • Hello,

When you are into IM think of it as a real business and it will grow into a real business and if you think of it as a hobby then it will remain a hobby. The choice is yours.

If you choose the former then be prepared for the long haul.

You will face problems and difficulties but you will find the necessary inner strength to surmount all odds.

Remember--"Great things are done when men and mountains meet.It is not done by jostling in the streets".

    • I met Kevin in Tokyo this Jan and he's the real deal - a nail gun wielding maniac who strikes terror in hamster hearts nationwide...

Actually, he's been up real rough and close with those kinda "toys" while running a construction business down in the wilds of Osaka (sorry Kevin, couldn't resist).

Hearing some stories about his life before IM taught me a lot about the guy - savvy enough to run a tough business as a foreigner in Japan, where the only (legal) way to succeed is to work long and hard. Yes, smart too but he's definitely no stranger to graft.

And that shows in the success he's built over time with the online Hamster emporium ;-)

  • Luckily I found my way here after going through IM misery. I was getting very frustrated about finding answers when I need them, this forum is a great place to get help, answers, and good sound advice, Im glad there are a lot of advanced IMers here as well as us newbies.
  • As usual sound sense from Kevin. If you are a newbie make sure that you grab his Success Manifesto 2011.

What sets Internet Marketing apart from other businesses is that you can start with nothing and still build a huge business.

But like any other business it takes time and commitment, and most importantly of all good guidance.

Kevin really is one of the good guys! Thank you for your stream of good advice.
  • Well! Great read for this virgin warrior! Looks like I have knocked the right door for sound advice and help!

Looking forward to the ride! And the hard work of course!!

    • Kevin,

Thank you for a wonderful post. One that should be read by every newbie. It was way back in 2004 that I first discovered Internet Marketing, but not until 2007 did I find out about and join the Warrior Forum.

I knew that money could be made, but had no idea how. So started years of trying first one thing then another. I spent thousands that I could ill afford, but my love affair with the internet was total.

Can one be an Internet Marketing addict?

Yes! That is a big danger for many of us.

I have been scammed several times. The worst one was by a warrior. Fortunately, I was "rescued" by yet another warrior, but not before I had lost a large amount of cash.

My rescuer guided me towards the training and support that Kevin provides. I completed his Product Creation Course and wrote a really good guide in a specialized niche - unfortunately the sales letter is a disaster - I have a lot of work to do on that score...lol. Sales letters are definitely not my forte.

I have also followed up with his Traffic Creation Course and most recently with his Success Manifesto 2011.

Kevin has pretty much straightened out my mind. I now know and understand what it is that I need to do. I am creating a long term business.

      Have I made money? No!

      Will I make money? Yes!

It will take time and dedication - but Kevin as my unwitting mentor has shown me exactly what I need to do. The most important rule to my mind is to close my eyes and ears to all the sales hype out there.

Although I haven't reached the light at the end of the tunnel, I can see it clearly and as long as I refuse to allow myself to be distracted, I will get there sooner rather than later. It has taken me a long time stumbling around in the dark to reach this stage - but at last I know that I will make it.

Darn! I just have to get a handle on the sales and marketing stuff - my biggest problem at the moment.

      Thanks for everything Kevin

      Sandy

    • Very good points there.

Research is also very important before you apply any money making method or buying any info product.
  • Great stuff and advise...
  • The recurring theme includes two 4-letter words: "hard", and "work." But that doesn't have to be a bad problem, if you know that IM is what you really & truly want to do.

Thanks, Kevin, for the "tough love".

    • Good point. I only think of it as "work". I've worked in construction, on a railway signals construction crew, on haying crews (in my early teens), and on a deep sea dragger (for 3 hellish weeks), so I find Internet marketing the easiest work I've ever done, but YES it will not come from pushing buttons and dreaming.

  • Kevin,

  • This paragraph is GREAT advice. It also hit home because when I first got started a decade ago I was that guy. I jumped from program to program. I merely "tried" different things instead of educating myself first, then focusing on one thing at a time, mastering it enough to where it produced income, and then moved onto the next thing (though later I went back and merely scaled everything up).

This is very timely and sound advice and I speak from experience.

The rules of internet business are different than brick in mortar in many ways, but hard work, dedication and honesty are things they have in common.

  • Hey

Really motivational letter. Newbies, please do not think that IM is a get rich quick scheme. While people do claim it is easy, NEVER let this statement make you cut back on your efforts. You should still put in your effort in earning before you see your first paycheck. Also, never be discouraged and always keep learning. Hope this helps

  • I come from the Real Estate Investing niche, and the biggest sales pitch "gurus" give is that you can quit your J.O.B. and become your own boss. What people don't understand is that when having a job, there is a boss who tells you what to do and makes hard decisions. When you're own boss, you have to make those decisions. Unlike having a job, there is no guaranteed paycheck end of the week, you need to earn it.

Like they say, during the gold rush, those who sold the shovels made all the money. In Real Estate Investing, those who sold the "how-to" courses made the money. The same concept rubbed on the Info Marketing industry.

I've seen people who talk about how easy it is to throw a forum together and make easy money. They leave out the time and effort it needs to bring it to a point where members make it run on its own. If they make it sound hard, people won't buy the "how-to" books.

I am somewhat fine with that since there is the assumption that people are adults and should know better and should treat it as a business anyway.

But when people fabricate facts, twist things around with the intention of tricking people, then they are crossing the fine line.

    • So all the copy produced by IM's stating how easy it is to make €10K per month is rubbish?

Are the IM's prosecuted for misleading advertising?

  • Hi Kevin, good to see you taking a break from playing with the hamsters. If I may, I would like to add a paragraph to your post.

Follow the main threads on the WF for a week or two and get a feel for the most popular approaches to getting started. This forum has a strong article "Bum" marketing following as an example. Once you see an approach that looks good for you, use the SEARCH function and pull up all the old threads that discuss all the details. Then create a plan of action and follow it. Do not jump ship until you see results. If you have questions along the way, we'll be here to help. Senior warriors always help people who have proven that they are willing to help themselves.

That's my addition. Thanks for the post Kevin.

  • Great post Kevin. I'm a new warrior but not new to the web (I've been developing websites since 1998).

I AM new to 'internet marketing' in the way it's being done currently. I used to HATE HATE HATE the long sales letters, they just drove me batty. After plenty of split-testing and watching others and whatnot - i've come to see the light.

And there's plenty more 'light' where that came from. It's a fun ride, but like you said Kevin, it's also WORK and it takes TIME.

    This should be stickied
  • Kevin, your point is well taken. Lots of folks are attracted to the get rich quick mentality. Seems like getting up early, putting in sweat equity and being consistent is the keys to making money anywhere. Did I mention having a mentor to walk you through your first few launches?
  • Hi Kevin:
I appreciate your article. I really feel at this point that the Warrior Forum is the best source of knowledge on the internet for internet marketers.

I also have spent a lot of money, and some of it has been well spent, but at the moment I feel I get more out of learning from you guys at the WF than signing up for more courses.

I also think the discussions here are real and substantive.

I recently started working on creating backlinks, and have received valuable information at the WF. For some amazing reason, I had not really understood the importance of backlinks until I read some threads here.

Anyway, I am pretty new to IM and am still looking for guidance from people who know how to do it. So I keep coming back.
  • Agreed in all aspect . It is the better place for the newbies. And for marketing discussion it is the great, simply great. I have learned a lot of things from here
  • Also there is a huge learning curve. It goes alot more deeper than making fast cash online.

You have to have the capacity to really learn about marketing. There is a difference between marketing, selling and making cash. Once the ingredients are right the success will follow.

The internet is not a trusted place - it takes a lot more work to turn a prospect into a customer.

The formula is consistency and hard work initially.
    • [1] reply
    • Unless you actually put the product(ie product name keywords) they are looking for right in front of their face
  • Is it just me, or do virtually all of the sales page written by IMers have an aura of "too good to be true" about them?

Even most copywriting courses seem to focus on "how to sell the unbelievable".

Perhaps if folks would start to tune their antennas to stuff that actually seems "realistic", many of them wouldn't be so broke.
  • There is no question that anyone telling you that you will get rich with IM, by sitting around and doing nothing while the money rolls in, is selling you a bunch of bull.

This stuff takes a LOT of hard work. And there are always new things to try. When I started my business, I figured as soon as I reached $100 a day in profits every day, I would just sit back and collect money. Well, I reached that point a long time ago...and I could sit back and do very little, if I wanted to...

But this stuff gets in your blood! You WANT to keep experimenting, and building, and tweaking. So now, having reached my financial "goal" that I set for myself, I find myself putting in more hours than ever! But I wouldn't be doing it if I didn't love it...
  • By the way, I read a post in this forum recently that pretty much sums up the "bull" I was talking about.

A woman wrote, "My website has been up for a few weeks and I still haven't made a single sale. Can someone critique my website and tell me how to make money?"

What product was she trying to sell? An IM product, naturally. And her site was all about how she became rich because of IM! "I sit around all day and do nothing and make $10,000 a week!" or whatever...

...when in reality, she is hanging out on these message boards trying to get advice on how to make HER FIRST SALE.
  • Great idea to write this open letter for newbies, Kevin.

The sheer volume of information and 'how to' guides available for IMs today is bewildering and it's easy to understand why newbies wonder where to start. Each promotion they receive is the 'best product yet' to make you money so where do they start?

The best piece of advice from many of the posts here, though, is to do SOMETHING. Don't sit on mountains of information and convince yourself that you will be ready one day to make money online. Choose a niche, research that niche, choose one or two traffic generation techniques and JUST DO IT.

Even if you only make a little money to start with, what you learn along the way will enable you to make a good living in time.

    Steve.

    • Thank you Kevin, for posting this, it certainly helps us newbies, well it did me! It does seem that at times, there are some that are willing to lead others astray, but it also shows that people should stop and think whether they will use this "latest & greatest" program.

Steve, what you've written makes sense, I've chosen my niche, I'm researching it and will have to wait and see whether it will work out in the long run.

For now, I'm going to go lurk in the background, will stop asking silly questions and wait for someone else to ask them for me!

  • Great post Kevin

    • That letter should definitely be stickied, if not printed out by every newbie to the forum and taped above their workspace.

I really do think there should be a "newbie guide" or special report that people get when they register with the forum that gives them a brief overview of internet marketing. Like what the common business models are, methods for finding products to sell, generating traffic, etc. along with tips for the right mindset to have. Obviously it couldn't cover each of those topics in depth, but just something that can point newbies in the right direction from day 1.
  • Kevin,

Great post man. In the years of doing this I've seen so many people join even my programs and then not apply the knowledge. A few weeks after not doing anything - simply wonder where the money is and why they aren't making any.

It takes time and practice to make money online. Once you know how to make even a $1 it all get easier. $1 turns into $500 and then $500 to $5000 and so on with time and practice. I always tell my students to focus on the fundamentals, build from a solid foundation and stay focused on one thing at a time.

  • This is a must read for anyone venturing in IM world... I wish I found this months ago.
I think going through this "IM Learning Curve" of your own is priceless!
    ... I am talking about:
Search in google about IM>Opt-in in those Long Sales latter>Start getting the
daily dosage of "Guru" advise/pitch>then start getting those product launch
email>Opt-in some more> Watch more teaser video tips from more Gurus>
Buy some products but before you act on it move on to the next product>
...You know how this vicious cycle goes... I can bet 90% of the marketers
went through this in some form or other.
I surely enjoyed it and it strengthened my resolve to build an online business.
So, Newbies no fear...take your time, do research, be within your budget, and take
some consistent actions... result with success and failure will follow...
Now, the question is how quickly can you learn and leverage from your failure ..

    To everyone's success!
  • Very sound advice.

The Internet can be a combination of massive frustrations and big rewards and even those who are reasonably well established can bomb out at times.

    • Newbie here. Glad I came here first. I'm sure this advice will prove useful for my new ventures into IM.
  • Ah, Kevin, that was a breath of fresh air for a stale room full of incestuous smoke. Thank you.

  • Kevin,

As a newbie this post really hit home. Since coming here to the forum a few weeks ago I have bought several (probably 10 or 15) WSOs looking for information on how to make money online. You are right...I was going in all directions...thinking oh, maybe I should try this, then oh, maybe I should try that. But I wasn't doing anything.

I bought stuff about offline marketing, affiliate marketing, and a few other things. None of them really appealed to me totally. Then I bought some information on using the public domain and marketing items from that. THAT was it for me. I realized that I didn't need any further ideas...but that I wanted to work in this area. Why? Because I love books and reading and writing. What a perfect fit. And I love wonderful vintage stuff. What a perfect fit. And I love wonderful graphics...what a perfect fit. Now my only challenge is focusing on one project at a time and getting it up and running. But I'm working on that.

Man, I guess I got a bit long winded when all I really wanted to say is that I can attest to the validity of your post...been there, bought the t-shirt, but now feel I'm focused enough to get moving.

    Thanks for the post.
  • Great post, you'll get people excited for sure......eveyone wants to make money online. Times are hard, but together we can pull together and help each other.
  • Thanks for laying it out like it is. Myself being a Warrior Forum newbie appreciate a site that takes Internet Marketing seriously. I can't wait to dig in and become a valuable member of the community.
  • This is a great introductory post Kevin. I look forward to being part of a community that does such a stand up job of looking out for its members (Especially those, lucky enough, to end up here first)

I've spent the last 2 years active in other forums; and when I say seeing something like this speaks volumes about a community I'm not just being flattering.

Most online "community's", consist of ten thousand cut throats out to hustle each other. At least, those in the marketing niche.

I don't believe that IM is hard. It is the easiest business I have ever built, and I've built a few. What makes it difficult for many is that they don't treat it like a business. They do a little of this and try a little of that. Never really have a solid action plan.

In the offline world that would bury you very quickly, and put you in serious debt. Online it just stops you from ever succeeding.

As for technical difficulties, if your hosting tech support doesn't help you, move to a better hosting company. Don't ever let tech stuff get in your way. You can always find someone who can help you out. That's what I do!

  • excellent advice kevin
how about making this sticky for all the newbies out there?
  • Hi Kevin. thank you for this one. Truly it hits me. I am a newbie.I've read a few internet money making programs, freebies and paid. But at the end of the day, I always get caught with new programs that I could came across, leaving the other products untouched. Every time I read gurus claiming how they earned hundreds or thousands in a day, it motivates me ,tried following their program, one guru from another and that led me to none. I always start and not finishing.

Thank you again . You are right in every sense. I am your fan.

  • Awesome post, puts not just the forum but IM as a whole into a nutshell, no jumping from one thing to another or giving up in a few days when the millions fail to drop into your lap. Many talk about passive income, but there is a lot of hard work over long periods of time to get to the "passive" stage. Finally, you have to at least like doing this stuff, you are your own boss, so you need to like it, otherwise it is just another grinding job that you will hate and why bother putting yourself through that?
  • Hi Kevin!

Very, VERY well said! I'm not new to IM but I do remember what it felt like to be new. It was dazzling and exciting - and I found out very quickly how much work it took to build an honest-to-goodness business online.

I've been to the point where I almost gave up but this is all I ever want to do and so I committed to succeeding. Seems the ones who do succeed online put in the work, work hard, and persist. There is no "magic button."

I think your post is a great one and would have been better off seeing it when I was new to IM.

**Editing to say I did NOT see how old this post was until I responded. Goes to show the "staying power" of the post!
