arpReach on a subdomain or a new domain. Which one will be better?

Till now we have been using Aweber for our autoresponders need. We are planning to go for self hosted email solution like arpReach alongwith a SMTP provider like amazon SES or SendGrid.

I am wondering, do the experts here have any idea on what would be a better approach?

Installing arpReach on say

lists.myexistingdomain.com OR
www.newdomain.com

Does it make any difference? If yes, I would like to know the explanation. Thanks for your help!

I do not know if it makes a difference, but I am wondering why you have decided to leave Aweber for self hosted solution. I have thought about leaving Aweber myself, but figured it would be a nightmare trying to battle email delivery.

    Here are the reasons:

    1. We don't really send emails too often but keep paying Aweber on a monthly basis.
    2. When you go above 25k subscribers, costs start to pile up with ARs like Aweber etc. I know the standard argument "you are doing something wrong if you are not able to afford that fee with such number of users". Personally I don't buy this for various reasons.
    3. I want to have full control over my subscribers.

I have read enough about it and I don't think it will be a nightmare if implemented properly using best practises for email delivery like double-optins etc.

PS: It is not that we will cancel our existing account with them. However going forward will add new subscribers on ArpReaach instead of Aweber.

You can send from "domain.ext", "www.domain.ext" or "sub.domain.ext" - it does not make any difference for mail servers. The most important thing is to make sure that your forward and reverse DNS records match.

They will be working just the same. But if you are building lists in multiple niches, you may want to install arpReach on a new generic domain so that it doesn't look irrelevant when you build a list in weight loss niche but use an IM related domain name.

I could give you a far better solution using your own hosting that will cost you NOTHING every month. As far as domain vs sub-domain there are many advantages to using sub-domain names but this depends upon exactly what you want to accomplish and what your business model is.

Thanks. Actually we have a network of sites. The main is a membership site (and a company site which is generic as you said) and rest are niche sites.

So I am planning to put arpReach on lists.mygenericsite.com Does this sound ok to you?

Kindly read the above statement. Could you please elaborate the advantages of using sub-domain names? Thanks for your help.
