Killer Opt-In Question.

Hey guys,

I've come across one of those problems that you don't really think of during the sales funnel stages until you're actually applying it.

I have 2 freebies.
2 Optins for each.
1 email list.

If Johnny signs up for Freebie#1, he gets it and is added to my email list.

But if Johnny signs up for Freebie#2, he gets a message saying he's already subscribed.

So,

Should I include both freebies in my email autoresponder, so they get both either way?

    Hi,

In most of autoresponder, you have an option allowing you to manage your already subscribed people. With this option you can say something like: "if already subscribed send him to this link", which would be the same one (Freebie #2).

    Which autoresponder are you using?

    Hope this helps,
    Catherine

In Aweber (and most other autoresponders as well) you can create separate lists.

Each freebie gets a separate list. You can still mail them at the same time
if you want or treat them different.

At least now you know where they came from and what they are interested in.

Just split test your freebies! Take your two squeeze pages and rotate them with a link rotator this way you'll see which freebie converts better. After you have your winner you can give it away in your follow up sequenz. use the other freebie to give it away further down in your funnel to build even more trust!

With Aweber there are at least 3 methods to overcome this.
    1. Use two lists, one for each product.
    2. When the visitor subscribes for the second time unsubscribe him from the first list and subscribe him to the second list. This can be done automatically with Aweber.
    3. Send him to an already subscribed page with the second product on it. On the already subscribed page, I always put another link to the download instead of telling the visitor, hey you are stupid - you have already subscribed. So I suggest you put both downloads on the second page.

Any of these methods would work and would probably be available with other auto responders.

So if Johnny has already signed up on List#1 weeks ago and he's well into the follow up messages, if he signs up for List#2 and automatically gets removed from List#1 and onto List#2, will he have to start all over with the responder series (getting same emails again)?

If you're using Aweber you can set list automation tools, meaning you can segregate your leads according to which freebie they choose to claim.

Another solution is using something like LeadPages. You can set some complex subscription structures there.

How similar / different are the freebies?

It sounds like the simplest solution here would be to just give them both 'n call it a night

On my blog I have custom opt ins on specific post types (i.e. a blogging post will have a blogging incentive or a niche post an incentive based around niche markets) but they are all going onto the same list I just set up different thank you pages for different opt in forms that are tailored to the opt in.

If you're giving away freebies via squeeze page though you'll probably want to guarantee people are putting in legit emails (it's hard enough to get people to open mails via that method that you can't afford to lose subs) and add them to different lists so they get a unique email telling them where to find their freebie.
