Making the most out of a well-established site

Hello everyone,

Reading the hundreds of useful threads here and seeing how much people are willing to help others climb the ladder of financial success, has made me want to post and ask my question

I currenly own a very popular website that offers technical how-to articles for the IT community. The site is over 10 years of age and has an established reputation amongst IT engineers/administrators around the globe.

The website currently has around 7,500-8,000 visitors per week day, with an average 1.8 page views per user and 8500 newsletter members.

At the moment, the site has a few advertisements from companies whom we work with, however I am looking at exploring new opportunities and taking maximum advantage of what the site can offer.

I don't know if the site's reputation and status allows me to seek an experienced "coach", however I do like the idea

I'd really love to hear from the Warrior Forum community and especially from people who have managed to make the most out of similar sites/situations.

Many thanks to all in advanced!

Chris.

There are any number of coaches advertising here on the forum. Go through the WSO section, the Warrior's For Hire, the Classified ads, etc and you will find many from which to choose.

I suggest you look for one with IT experience and successful coaching of similar types of businesses. Always insist on relevant experience, recommendations from recent past clients, and examples of the kind of growth you want to see in your business from past coaching clients.

Beware, this is a public forum and there is no guarantee that because a "coach" has been a member here for a long time he/she has any past experience in coaching (or Internet business, for that matter.)

I think if you spend some time here, you will begin to recognize the successful people from the posers.

    Good luck,

    Steve

Thanks so much both Steve and Sheryl for your replies.

Steve, I like your suggestion and way of thinking. From your experience, do you see much potential with the information I have provided?

      Many thanks once again.

  • Chrisp77,

Promote niche-relevant affiliate products? For example -- CallStream allows you to promote tech support phone numbers in your site and newsletter. Your viewers can call these numbers to get remote tech support services so as to resolve their problems. When they purchase any of the tech support plans (one time or monthly or annual packages) offered by the tech support agents of the merchants, you'll receive commissions (one time or recurring, depends on the affiliate offers of the merchant).

Another example is RevenueWire.Com -- You can sign up as an affiliate of any of their merchants, which are all software companies and IT product development corporations. You can promote the tech products of these merchants in your website and newsletter, so as to earn commissions each time a viewer or subscriber purchases a tech product from these merchants.

Better yet -- Offer your own multilingual tech support plans, or custom software products, or both. Also, since you're getting global traffic, you could consider integrating an auto translation system into your website so as to support non-English traffic, and you can even set up a multilingual Q&A portal in your website so as to increase viewer participation, which would also allow you to better promote affiliate tech support plans and tech products, or your own multilingual tech support plans and software products.

Would love to work with you on this project...

      Thanks for your replies guys.

The website targets mainly IT administrators and network engineers and it managers. At the moment I'm contemplating if I should be seeking targeted advertisers or generally any type of affiliate program.

I know that the best revenue is to be made via direct advertisers, rather than programs like adsense, since you cut the man-in-the-middle, and at the same time, due to the type of audience I have, I feel that the ads should be targeted to ensure the user experience remains as high quality as possible.

I would like to hear about other webmasters how have had to make similar decisions and find out which path they took and how we'll it worked for them.

      Many thanks

I suggest you find an experienced marketer to help you develop a specific plan. You will get a lot of opinions here but a dedicated mentor can cut out the guess work and help you maximize the site's potential.

The investment is small compared to the benefits. Do some research and be very selective. Don't rush into anything.
