Is There a Market for This? And is This Ethical?

Is there a market for short reports that help Noobs do simple shit, like installing WordPress in a subdirectory, redirecting nameservers, cloaking affiliate links, downloading and installing themes, templates, and plug-ins...

I just spent the better part of two hours downloading an unzip program that would do .rar and then figuring it out, unraring a joomla download, and then rezipping a Joomla template because joomla insists on a .zip file apparently, and then installing it only to find out that the file I needed was buried way down in the .zip "package". Okay start over, I know how now...
Send it up again and the damn index.php has an error in it! ARRRRRRRRGGGGGHH!

Because I'm so damn broke, I have to learn everything the HARD way. Is there a market for these short DIY guides if they're pretty reasonable? Say in the $3-5 range?

I know the first time I installed an autoresponder with CPanel and MySql and changed the permissions and.... It took me two days of trial and error to do it! But I had a great sense of pride at the end!

This is the part about the ethics...

If I did report on say..."Downloading Wordpress to Your Webserver, Installing Themes and Plug-Ins" and directed people outside the .pdf to other resources that were basically freely available if they just looked hard enough , would that be unethical or a 'rights' infringement since I would be profiting from sending people to their site?

I realize I'm rambling a bit, but after putting all that effort into that one template and then it wouldn't load, I've taken joomla completely off that site and decided to do it with WP!

Not to mention cracked a few cold ones!!

BTW, anyone want a report on "How to Jump Through the Hoops of Adding a New Template to Their Joomla Site"! I might write it when I sober up!

Seriously though, I could teach a lot of new guys how to do the mechanics while you teach them your (Insert Product Here).

You could even bundle it with your (Insert Product Here).

Oh Hell, I'm gonna wake up in the morning to 5 WSO's offering this very same thing!

I better print this post and mail it to myself by certified mail! HEHE

Seriously, If you're better at it then me, go for it! I would have given that last six pack of Silver Bullets for a 'detailed' step-by-step guide to what should be such a simple thing.

Thanks for reading, had to let off some steam and maybe carve a niche. Gotta' go watch football and drink those other 3 beers...

There is always a market for How To Products and Services. Ok just about every subject has been covered and for free and it is easy to find such free information using Google especially as they also index threads from forums where such free information is normally posted.

However it is like I say to those on my list, we members of the human race can be a tad lazy at times and prepared to actually pay for information that is freely available if it means we don't have to in search of it so go for it is the answer.

Addition to Andrew Comments you got to remember that not all of our subscriber are Computer Geek, so even the information is available for free on the net.. They dont have any idea how to get them.

Of course there is a market for this..

er..you mean just like Google? No, I don't see that as unethical.

And if you were to put what you've just gone through on a camtasia video, I'm pretty sure there'd be a market.

Basic, well explained, step-by-step products are always in demand.

A fellow Warrior started a thread a few months ago about how on his membership site the most read/viewed things were the basic things. Just like what your describing.

It might have been Dr. Mani, but I'm terrible at names.

I would buy a step by step video if you decided to go down that track, rather than a .pdf

I struggle with technical stuff and it is difficult when you are starting out to be an expert in all fields and there is a limit to how much money you can spend having others do things for you.

I have found, any videos that show you how to do things in a clear step by step manner, an excellent way to learn.

        My 2 cents worth

        Cheers

          Misty,

My Initial post was asking about using text and video.

I don't have the skills yet to do videos, but I'm getting there! What I was going to do was a .pdf that explained the process and ....

There may be opportunity in actually providing the service to folks. I am looking at putting a blog together. I have everything necessary, and I am looking at the files and I have no idea what I need to do. I have a list of instructions, but I keep putting it off as it seems like a fairly big job. I might be dead wrong, but I don't really know. If someone would do it for me it would be so nice. I am not saying I am willing to part with the money it will take, but the point is that not everyone is as big a penny pincher as me and I think that there is a market.

Just my $0.02 worth. I think you have a decent idea.

      Thanks Guys,

I appreciate the positive responses, and since I've made it public here, I expect competition

I forgot about that part, after all, we are all competitors in the IM niche.

Gotta go get a head start on this...

The value you provide is found in the amount of time you cut off their learning curve. You just have to make sure they buy into that so that you don't have a bunch of refunds once they find out. Throw in some value added bonuses and you should be alright.
