NameCheap, Moniker, GoDaddy etc. Which is Best Domain Name Registrar?

Hi,

I used GoDaddy but I find it a bit expensive, thus I consider to change to another registrar which is cheaper, but as secure and useful as GoDaddy.

I read on the forum that most mentioned NameCheap, Moniker and GoDaddy, but most of the threads are old. Thus I thought to start a new thread about that with a poll.

Which registrar is best* when it comes to domain names services (registering, keeping, renewing, import, export, WHOIS changes, DNS change etc.)?

*best in generally all aspects, not only on just price, support or quality

I did not participate in your survey.

They all do the same thing, just pick one

I use godaddy, name.com, and namecheap.

GoDaddy for first year, they are cheap for first year only specially with coupon codes and cash back ( you can get the domain as cheap as $1 )

NameCheap is my favorite on the long term.

Name.com only if i want a domain for pre-registration and they have it first, the company has been sucking when it comes to notify people their domain about to expire ( they simply never notify you, even if you asked them to ). This probably is changing now, not for any reason but the fact that they are required to do so

I agree. I also like the fact that you don't have to put up with all the aggressive marketing that a certain other registrar puts you through just to register a domain name.

In DNForum.com they suggest that Moniker is best.

I consider to use Moniker too.

Do anyone have experience on using Moniker?

Perhaps they are somehow affiliated with Moniker, no?

I've been using Moniker several years ago, but was not really impressed with the interface and (especially) with the domain registration prices.

No - Moniker isn't affiliated with DNforum

I use Moniker & have for years. I likely would use NameCheap for a 2nd choice if I had too switch. However - they need to take care of this issue with ICANN which I presume they will... doesn't seem to be a big deal - http://www.icann.org/en/news/corresp...01may14-en.pdf

NameCheap has had a pretty good rep over the years & I remember when they launched as a reseller for eNom.

I've been using Moniker for several years. No, the interface isn't super pretty, but they have extremely quick changes and have always responded promptly to questions.

As for pricing, honestly long term I can't find any that beat them. They are $9.59/yr for .com, plus $1/yr for privacy. Namecheap is $10.69 with free privacy for one year, but after that privacy is like another $2.88/yr or something. Yes, GoDaddy, et al, have one time coupons, but that's just it - one time. I'm in this for a longer haul, so $10.59/yr with good service is fine by me.

Not sure if any other registrar is less than $10.59/yr, year after year.

This is just not the case. There are many threads at DNForum where people complain bitterly about how bad Moniker has become.

In any case, the one many professional domainers use is enom. It has a rock solid backend interface, competitive pricing for resellers and very little drama.

It is the workhorse most of us keep to ourselves, while everyone else is fighting to save a few pennies for the privilege of crappy service.

Abdullahkaragoz..Answer 2 questions? Ar you buying domains to flip, invest or develop? Are you buying 50/year or 5000/year?
If it is the former, not the latter, it makes little difference. GD is going to be, by far, for one year the cheapest...plus they have voice customer service.
If you have a large portfolio and are going to develop businesses for long term income, then take time to decide..reduce your list to 3-4 registrars and also ask on www.namepros.com for your answer.

I have ca 50-100 domain names, I think to build business or website on some of them, while I think to keep others in the long term.

I think to use either NameCheap, Moniker or eNom. But I have listed some more known names on the poll, because maybe there are a lot of users who'll vote for others.

I have just one DN at Moniker, and I think they have more "security" practices than GoDaddy, but I'm not sure.

I also wonder, if NameCheap is reseller of eNom, does that mean eNom is cheaper than NameCheap?

If you are looking for overall services as you mentioned, all domain registrars do the same basic functions and have to follow the same basic rules.

One registrar may use a blue background and have 1 upsell and one registrar may have a yellow background with no upsells but have offers from other companies. But in the end it's all basically the same.

If one's interface is too busy or too lacking or too something it will probably be changed soon. If one's interface is nice and clean it may change into something worse too. If one has other things for sale besides the domain name you can bet others will too. If one has a fee if you let a domain expire past 20 days or so then you can bet others have one too. If one will shut you down for spamming then others probably will too.

    Etc. Etc. Etc.

My point is to not spend too much time on this because in the end it's all about the same.

Another point is that no one can say which of all the domain registrars are absolutely the best unless they've tried them all. Most people that make blanket statements have NOT tried them all and so when they say XYZ is BEST, they really don't know what they are talking about.

I have registered several hundred domains with GoDaddy over the past 13 years and I have never had a an issue. I love the control panel and the quick transfer process. I also have 50 or so domains with Namecheap and I have had good service with them as well.

The companies I avoid like the plague for various reasons are Register.com, Network Solutions and 1&1.

    Cheers!

I just had a good giggle. I wanted to see if NetworkSolutions has discounted their price from when they charged $35 a year for registrations. I added the name to the shopping cart & they have drastically dropped the price to "34.99". (By the way - dfgghd.com is available for registration)

I had go daddy did not like the upsells. I actually purchased a domain thru Hostgator, awhile back, still have it tied to my one website.

The majority of my sites are with namecheap. I like the company just not the current design of the website they switch to this year. I would agree would Mike Singletary, in the end they are really all about the same.

I used to use GoDaddy however I was registering a lot of throw away domains for various projects and found that Enom do reseller accounts. Paying a one-off fee for a reseller account at Enom means I can register domains for less.

I also like the Enom admin - it's straight forward and has some nice features. The ability to auto-charge my card for expiring domains means it's also a set and forget setup - perfect if you don't want the hassle of renewing names.

The "best" is subjective and based on personal experience. I've been using namecheap for many years now without any problems and no plans to change. I have over 50 domains so I get a discount, just under $10 per years and whois prot is just under $1 a year as well. Sooooo pleased they changed things to just automatically apply those discounts.

Gradually moving domains from GoDaddy to NameCheap because I do not want to subsidize the GoDaddy advertizing expenses, and NameCheap is better. The position that GoDaddy took on Net Neutrality sucks.

GoDaddy transfers are cheaper than renewals. It makes no sense for me to remain as a GoDaddy customer. They are ripping me off with expensive renewals. Bye.

    Namecheap hands down.

Beware of registrars who try to force you to add multiple items into your shopping cart during your purchase process. Be equally wary of registrars who have only one mode of renewing subscriptions for your domains - auto-renewal. Its always good to opt out of automatic renewal so that you don't pay for domains you no longer use.
