IE8 hangs when trying to download - anyone had that problem?

Hi everyone,

I've been using IE8 for awhile now, and everything has been fine, but suddenly it has started hanging when any downloads are attempted.

I'm talking just raw, normal, download links.


I've tried turning off all plugins, and I've tried disabling my anti-virus, but no changes.

Has anyone else had this problem? And if so, did you fix it? And if so, how?

    Just a quick update - it seems "right-clicking > Save As" works fine, but left clicking just freezes the browser window.

    Anyone had something similar, or know how to fix it?

    Hi Sam,

    Does it happening with PDF links/Download?

    IF this is the case...then maybe your browser is having problem loading PDF reader
    in your browser...

    Sorry I am not using IE8, i just posted above as i read your other post that
    SAVE as works fine... i have faced the same problem on other browsers with
    PDF links, when my PDF reader was not loading fine....

    Hi Moshin,

    I'm not sure about PDF's - it was ZIP's that I was testing.

    I found the problem: I have three download accellerators installed on my computer that I use for testing for various client questions.

    None of them are meant to be running, and none are meant to start up automatically, and none are meant to intercept IE downloads.

    But somehow at least one of them was.

    I uninstalled all of them, and now the downloads are working fine.

    Strange!

    I have tried IE8 twice and both times it was lacking in speed, reliability and seemed to have a mind of its own - particularly if I tried to use the Google search box.

    No offence but please do yourself a favour and get rid of IE.

    IE is widely used because it is bundled with MS computers and because 95% of users are not clued up internet browsers.

    IE is the WORST explorer you can use, I recommend using FireFox. It's fast, safe, free, and small
